House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is proposing fines of up to $10,000 will be imposed on members who fail to abide by the security protocols of the House.
Wednesday’s announcement comes after metal detectors were set up outside the House chamber following last week’s attack on the Capitol. Some Republican lawmakers have expressed their displeasure about the new protocol and have been bypassing the metal detector entirely or walking through and not stopping when they set it off.
Pelosi says, “It is tragic that this step is necessary, but the Chamber of the People’s House must and will be safe.” She says, “Many House Republicans have disrespected our heroes by verbally abusing them and refusing to adhere to basic precautions.”
The fine will be $5,000 for the first offense and $10,000 for the second offense. The Democratic-led House will vote on the rule change.
Earlier in the week, she imposed fines for those who fail to wear face masks during the COVID-19 crisis. Both fines will be deducted directly from members’ salaries.
In some ways this is ridiculous…yet at the same time it’s nice to see lawmakers who consistently make rules for us, but then exempt themselves have to deal with the pain.
Most of us have to go through one for a visit to the local courthouse.
And court employees get to bypass them.. smdh.. ground all the kids because the baby shit his diaper….

We the people should have control as to the pay, the perks and whatever else these people should get.

This was an attempt to overthrow the legitimate government of the United States of America, not urban renewal.
The plan was to rush the house chamber, as the members and staffers fled the rioters would move into and occupy the chamber, just as they did that day.
They knew that if they could secure and/or destroy the authentic electoral college ballot certificates from the states, they could bring the presidential election process to a halt.
With no state certified electoral ballots, the election would be thrown back to the various state legislatures.
This would give trump the opportunity to have 50 different lawsuits, attacking each state legislature’s process and attempting to force an immediate vote by the legislatures to select electors.
With a majority of Republican controlled state legislatures, they would produce a plurality for Trump and award him the presidency, against the votes of 81 million Americans.
This plan would’ve succeeded but for a group of patriotic Americans, who acted quickly to save the constitutional process.
Senator Merkley said Senate floor staffers retained the presence of mind to gather up the electoral college ballots in their mahogany boxes and evacuate them from the house chamber before the insurrectionists could gain entry.

Firearms were not allowed on the House floor previously. The metal detector was necessary because there was an armed insurrection against our government whose aim was to hang the Vice-President and execute members of congress. Some house members were at least peripherally Involved, so the metal detector was a precaution necessary to enforce the pre-existing rule. Some House members were unwilling to follow a rule that everyone else had followed voluntary and out of respect for the chamber. You act like spoiled children, you get treated like spoiled children.
