Pope Slams Weapons Makers as Controllers of the ‘Puppet-Strings of War’

Pope Francis on Monday blasted the weapons industry and its “instruments of death” that fuel wars as he made a Christmas Day appeal for peace in the world and in particular between Israel and the Palestinians. …

He called for governments and people of goodwill in the Americas in particular to address the “troubling phenomenon” of migration and its “unscrupulous traffickers” who take advantage of innocents just looking for a better life.

He took particular aim at the weapons industry, which he said was fueling the conflicts around the globe with scarcely anyone paying attention.

“It should be talked about and written about, so as to bring to light the interests and the profits that move the puppet strings of war,” he said. “And how can we even speak of peace, when arms production, sales and trade are on the rise?”

  2. Hmmm. I can get on board with the Pope to some extent. Eisenhower warned us about the military industrial complex. Today, we can see Biden at the helm of that complex, shipping arms to Ukraine as fast as, or faster than, the complex can build arms. He has depleted stockpiles of weapons around Europe, in Israel, and here in the US. There are billions in profits available, gotta keep the wars going!

    Problem is, the Pope and a lot of his followers conflate modern sporting arms with “weapons of war”. The small town gunsmith who produces a few dozen semi-autos annually are just as guilty of billions of deaths as, say, Raytheon, or Boeing.

    • The Church has committed many atrocities. Are you aware they threw half of Europe to Islam back in the day? Better that people be brought under the heel of Islam, than to be allowed to worship freely, outside the influence of the Pope. People free to worship a loving God was a heresy to the Church. There were reasons literacy rates were kept negligible throughout early Christian history.

  13. Guys, he isn’t exactly wrong. Let’s add some nuance. There is a war lobby. I don’t buy my weapons from Lockheed Martin, Boeing, or General Dynamics, etc. I’m fairly certain I’m not supporting the war lobby when I buy from Ruger, S&W, or Wilson Combat.

Read John’s first two letters where he tells us all the bible has to say bout antichrist. It is very simple;; Jesus said “he who is not with ,e is against me”. ohn defines those who deny that Jesus has come in the flesh are “of antichrist”, that is, against Christ. And there are many of those… certainly this creature referring to himself as “the vicar (placeholder) of CHrist is of the spirit that is against (or “anti”) CHrist. This critter does NOT know Jesus, else he would not be saying what he says. The pope is sup[osed to be “the vicar (place=holder) of CHrist. Nope. Jesus is big enough He does not need anyone to hold his place or even represent Him. We who follow HIm represent Him. Milions of us. Probably even billions.   17. The original military industrial complex complaint. Was against small firearms manufacturers. Because during World War I both sides, US and Germany, were using the same weapons. I believe the US paid a license fee for the Springfield mauser copy. Or you had foreign manufacturing companies operating inside enemy countries. But selling weapons to their opponents.

    Also, you had Ford auto company plants in Germany during WW2. I was told once that the american government paid reparations to the Ford motor company. When the eighth Air Force bombed those plants. I don’t know if that story is true or not.

    • I realize that they are guarding hundreds of $ Billions in wealth, but even if the entire population of nearly 750 stormed at one time, the Guard would have to be careful to keep all shots within the 1/5 mile contained within their border, so as not to trigger an accidental war with Italy.

      • I was studying history when it actually taught in schools. Entire civilizations in Asia, South/Central America, Africa, Europe and the United states. Were eliminated all in the name of the Catholic church. You certainly either failed history or were never taught.
