The Guns of Top Shot, Season Three, Episode Eight: None

Question of the Day: Are You Paranoid?

107

My teenage step-daughter and I are having “issues.” Unlike her classmates’ parents, I don’t let her wander down the local drag or around the mall without knowing her location and cohorts. I don’t trust her; I check her location using her phone’s GPS locator (she knows about it). It’s a constant battle to establish what she’s up to, both in the real world and online. Last night, she turned to me and said “I don’t like you.” Just like that. Matter-of-fact. I could see myself through her eyes, and I didn’t like what I saw. So tonight, again, I tried to explain . . .

Military Times’ GearScout Details Serpa Holster Issues

17

As TTAG reported earlier, the Marines have bought 27,000 Serpa holsters to replace the old M-12 nylon models. Reviews have been mixed…in the same way they were for Heaven’s Gate. There’s no shortage of YouTube footage featuring Serpa-related issues, but now GearScout’s gear wiz, Rob Curtis, a Serpa skeptic, has produced his own footage detailing what he sees as the holster’s three main drawbacks.

Felon Buys Guns Illegally, Reports Them To Cops When They’re Stolen

20

Here’s a pro tip for all you felons out there aspiring to buy guns illegally – stay out of police stations. You’d think that would be something that wouldn’t need to be emphasized much, but it appears that Roldy Francois was busy updating his Facebook page when that lesson was covered in crook school. It’s a shame, too, because his lack of attentiveness has cost him more than thirteen years in the hoosegow…

Gear Review: ThOR 2 Color IR Optic

6

Robert, I finally had some time to play with my ThOR 2 IR scope. Here are my thoughts which some may find of value:

1: Unless you are planning on using this $10k optic on a fairly regular basis within the laws of society, (ie: law enforcement, military, LEGAL night hunting/predator control), you should just pass.

2: While it is a really “neato” appurtenance for your crazy gun collection, it is pretty darned expensive and has a very, very limited use for about 99% of us . . .

Self-Defense Tip: Drop it Like It’s Hot

8

Here’s something you never see on the firing line at your local gun range: someone holding their phone. A book (remember them?). A bag of groceries. Anything other than a gun or a gun magazine. They face the target, empty-handed, then draw their gun. Done. And yet . . . how many times do you walk down the street with empty hands? Show me a family man or woman ambling around town without some sort of shopping or baby bag or something and I’ll show you a parental unit that got out of the car less than ten minutes previous. Show me a twenty-something who isn’t yakking or texting with a smart phone and I’ll show you someone who needs to get a life. I mean, seriously. To be fully prepared to draw your weapon you need to be ready to drop whatever’s in your hands. As the rabbi (a.k.a., David Kenik) says .  . .

Guns n’ Gas Guzzlers Don’t Mix…If You’re Livin’ Large in the Nanny State

Selling automobiles is not an activity for the faint of heart. Profit margins are thin as the fabric on a Fredricks of Hollywood negligée, clients are few and far between, and keeping the customers, manufacturers, financiers, and employees happy is more than a full-time job. As a result, just about any kind of promotion you can think up that works is a big honkin’ deal. So you’d think that when you’re a dealer that comes up with an idea that sells cars, the banks, the manufacturers, and the “creating jobs is job #1” Federal government would be thrilled. And you’d be wrong, when that idea involves guns.

What’s Wrong with This Picture: iPhone App Blaster Edition

2

I can’t quite put my finger on it (so to speak), but there’s something not quite right with this iPhone App Blaster game gun. phonesreviuew.co.uk loves it. “Once the game has started you will see the room you are in as you see it with your own eyes, then you will get little aliens popping up all over the screen, which you have to shoot to get the most points.” I think they call it “augmented reality.” It’s not the kind of toy you want to buy someone suffering from paranoid schizophrenia, in case you hadn’t figured that out already.

Competition Shooting 101: IDPA

15

Remember this series? I know, it’s been a while, but back by popular request is the continuing series of Competition Shooting 101 articles where we teach you about the various shooting sports. First we looked at 3-gun, then NRA High Power, and last time we talked about USPSA / IPSC. This time we present Bill Wilson’s personal sect of IPSC called IDPA, or International Defensive Pistol Association matches.

Quote of the Day: Hoisted by Your Own Retard Edition

“We know who’s committing these crimes — the same people committing the shootings last year and the year before,” Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake told baltimoresun.com. “It’s repeat violent offenders, and we’re determined to make sure we’re making it very difficult for them to continue to pursue those dangerous activities in Baltimore.” By surveillance operations, car stops and search warrants, rather than, say, locking up people who shoot people. Oh no, wait. “Rawlings-Blake reiterated on Monday a desire to pursue legislation to strengthen penalties for people caught with illegal guns.” Would that be in addition to stiffer penalties for people who shoot people illegally? Meanwhile, did I really hear that the guns on display are “similar” to the ones the cops confiscated? Naw. C’mon. Really?

Gun Review: Diamondback DB9

101

My quest for a new concealed carry gun started almost as soon as I bought a Smith and Wesson M&P compact .40 for my wife. I loved it from the first time I fired it. Small but mighty, the M&P’s double-stacked magazine packs a lot of firepower. Carrying it, though, is another matter. The M&P is a real load in your pants. Well, let’s just say it’s heavy. I carried the Compact .40 with me on an extended trip and really wished I’d had a smaller firearm. Call me sensitive, but I found the thought of hauling that brick – even in a Smart Carry holster – a burden. My wife has a .38 Smith revolver that I carried regularly, but that left her without a carry gun. I needed one of my own.
