Politics is a cesspool. Anyone who thinks elected officials and high-level government bureaucrats are interested in anything more than their own career protection and advancement just isn’t paying attention. If their lips are moving they’re paying lip service to the beliefs and ideals that are supposed to underpin America. The legacy media is no better. They really are as profoundly biased as the profoundly biased right-wing commentators say they are. The legacy media, I mean. I guess a liberal arts education is a terrible thing to waste. But it’s their reliance on moral relativism that really sticks in my craw. In other words, they believe two wrongs makes them right. To wit, the Executive Director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence and Huffington Post columnist Josh Horwitz on the ATF’s extra-legal (i.e. criminal) Operation Fast and Furious . . .
Marines Select The Blackhawk SERPA Retention Holster
The USMC has been issuing the venerable M-12 for decades. And for almost as long, Marines have shelled out their own money for something they like better. But the Marines have now decided to upgrade, recently designating the Blackhawk SERPA retention holster as standard issue equipment. And as Bob Curtis of Military Times’ Gearscout details, the decision isn’t meeting with universal shouts of “oorah!”

The Truth About Bonanza and Firearms
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3t1JpRYOps4
Many of us are old enough to remember when Bonanza owned Sunday night right after ‘Ed Sullivan’ led the way an hour earlier on another network. The huge popularity of TV westerns in the early 60s was not lost on kids from that era. What was lost on us: the incredible bloodshed produced by the principle characters in TV westerns. A high body count was part of the furniture in almost every episode and the simple plot lines obscured some important facts about firearms . . .

Thank God it Wasn’t a Smith & Wesson Governor
“Garrett Bauernschmid’s caretaker told authorities she had arrived at the home and found a large water moccasin lying near the front door,” news-journalonline.com reports. “Bauernschmidt retrieved his .38-caliber handgun and shot one round of birdshot at the snake [yes it’s possible], but missed, according to a report from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. Williams told deputies the man was manipulating the safety to enable the second chamber [huh?] when the gun discharged. Bauernschmidt suffered injuries to his index and middle finger on his left hand. He was treated on scene and later taken to Halifax Health Medical Center. No one else was injured, authorities said. The snake got away.”
Bloomberg Writer Perjures Himself to “Expose” FL Carry Permits
In an overview of the whole out-of-state concealed carry permit thing (H.R.822), Bloomberg scribe John Crewdson applies for—and receives—a Florida license to carry. It’s a scandal! “Florida, which granted my permit after I viewed a half- hour, online safety video, now says it made a mistake. ‘Unfortunately, our office made an error in completing your application,’ wrote Sterling Ivey, a spokesman for the state licensing division in an e-mail response after I asked why somebody with no handgun experience got a permit. While Florida law doesn’t set a minimum number of hours for safety training or specify what the training must include, it does require trainers to keep documentation that applicants “have been observed safely handling and discharging the firearm,” Ivey wrote. There was no such documentation in my case. Uh, yes there was: Crewdson’s signature. The Ft. Myers Gun Rights Examiner takes him to task . . .
Incendiary Image of the Day: Our Lives, Our Laws Indeed Edition
This is not the first time that Mayor Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) has attempted to get their gun control party started by changing their name. Remember the “Responsible Firearms Retailer Partnership“? No, I didn’t think so. The MAIG proxy was created to blackmail retailers into adhering to gun control regs MAIG couldn’t inflict on gun stores through legislation. Only Wal-Mart signed up—and never returned TTAG’s phone calls on the subject. And now we have “Our Lives, Our Laws,” MAIG’s effort to “Stop the Washington gun lobby and their allies in Congress from taking away your state’s right to decide who can carry a concealed gun.” In other words, “Stop your state stopping law-abiding citizens from carrying a concealed gun.” More specifically, H.R. 822 would allow any person with a valid state-issued concealed firearm permit to carry a concealed firearm in any state that issues concealed firearm permits.” So proper vetting and all that. Who knew?
Defending the Self-Defense Case Pt. 1
[The following was written by attorney Lisa J. Steele for nacdl.org. It is republished here with the author’s permission.]
A self-defense case is fundamentally different from most other criminal prosecutions. The essence of the defense is that the defendant is the victim of an attempted or completed violent felony such as assault, rape, or homicide which, but for the defendant’s lawful actions, would have resulted in the defendant’s death or in serious bodily harm. The complainant is, in fact, a violent aggressor who, but for the defendant’s lawful actions, would be the one standing trial. The defendant is the “good guy” and the victim is the “bad guy,” despite the prosecution’s efforts to portray the converse.
Gear Preview: Timney Trigger – Ruger 10/22
My Ruger 10/22 is my most used, most cherished, and most loved gun in my collection. It was my first gun; she joined the family for my twelfth birthday. While I would never disparage such a “mature” lady, she’s begun to feel her age. After fifteen or twenty thousand rounds, she’s a bit gritty, stiff, and hard to get moving. So I’ve decided the old girl needs a bit of work. As the Ruger I won’t be going crazy. No fancy stocks, bull barrels or high end optics for me. I’ll be starting with the small items and going from there. Starting with a Timney trigger . . .
