Obscure Object of Desire: Obama Kills Osama Figurine

9

You have to wonder what took them so long. I guess our friends in the Chinese figurine industry strategized that the Obama Kill (sic) Osama commemorative piece would have more of an impact at the 10th anniversary of 9/11. You have to hand it to them on the level of detail, too. Well, mostly…

Self-Defense Tip: You’re Not the Good Guy

22

“Police said the man who was shot picked up an officer’s gun that had fallen to the ground and, at one point, turned toward several police officers,” charlotteobserver.com reports. Wait. What? “Police were called about a robbery at a strip mall on Central Avenue in east Charlotte. Officer Joshua Skipper was the first policeman to arrive at the scene, where he made contact with the robbery victim and the suspects’ vehicle, which was still on the scene, police said in a release. As he waited for his backup to arrive, a person inside the car jumped out and tried to run away . . .

Question of the Day: Is This Funny?

39

No question: the above video was a set-up. No, “Kern” didn’t purposely let the Smith & Wesson 500 hit him in the head. But XxSkorchxX knew what was going to happen, and could have instructer Kern how to avoid it (where’s the fun in that?). The shooter was the third “victim” of this Maximum Recoil video series. [Make the jump for a more comely comedy.] In fact, I bet he bought the 500 just to punk his erstwhile friends. I’m not going to go all IGOTD on this. I just want to know one thing: is it funny? Did you laugh at this? Is it funny? Funny how? Funny like he’s a clown, he amuses you? He makes you laugh, he’s here to amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How is he funny?

Irresponsible Gun Owner of the Day: Unnamed Harmony, IN Teen

32

Alternate title: Teen Killed While Acting Like Jackass With Gun. I’m sorry, was that too clear and explanatory a title for you? Because that’s what happened to a 16 year-old from Harmony, Indiana yesterday. Sure, it might sound harsh when a kid ends up dead. Something that’s always a tragedy. No one wants to speak ill of the dead. Especially when you can couch what happened in terms that make him sound more like an unfortunate casualty than a dumb kid screwing around. And if you can also lead readers to conclude the real problem was the gun, well that’s just a bonus…

ATF Death Watch 80: U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry’s Last Words

4

“Late in the night on Dec. 14, in a canyon west of Rio Rico, Ariz., Border Patrol agents came across Mexican bandits preying on illegal immigrants,” latimes.com reports. “According to a Border Patrol ‘Shooting Incident’ report, the agents fired two rounds of bean bags from a shotgun. The Mexicans returned fire. One agent fired from his sidearm, another with his M-4 rifle. One of the alleged bandits, Manuel Osorio-Arellanes, a 33-year-old Mexican from Sinaloa, was wounded in the abdomen and legs. Agent Brian Terry — 40, single, a former Marine — also went down. ‘I’m hit!’ he cried . . .

Sons of Guns causes 9/11 Terrorism Scare at DFW Airport

25

According to MercuryNews.com, a rental truck being used by the crew from Sons of Guns to transport machine guns and pyrotechnics was parked in front of the Dallas – Fort Worth Airport. When asked what the truck was carrying, the driver reportedly mentioned “I got a couple of guns.” Things went steadily downhill from there…

UK Judge: Guns Are Dangerous!

3

As this is a firearms website, I can’t say very much about the Boston City Council’s recent “knife control hearing” or the Enfield [UK] Independent’s “Don’t Carry Don’t Kill” anti-knife editorial campaign. Suffice it say, the only thing that makes less sense than gun control is knife control. That’s not how the British Justice System (such as it is) views the matter. “Judge Fraser Morrison, who oversaw all 37 cases [of firearms possession, including modified starter’s pistols], said on Friday at the sentencing of the final two defendants: ‘For the record, being involved in the movement of guns is very serious indeed. The reason why it is viewed so seriously is the items can dispatch lethal force. There is a lot of violence in this country with guns when people suffer very severe consequences.’” Especially if they’re unarmed. Or if they’re carrying BB guns . . .

Gun Rights and the Tragedy of 911

127

Yesterday, I spent five hours watching documentaries on the September 11th terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the Capitol building. With one exception—a Geraldo Rivera special on the military response—the programs focused on the tragedy itself. They told heart-wrenching tales of heroism and suffering. They contrasted mesmerizing footage of horrific crime scenes with shockingly mundane images of the murdered men and women; their loved ones, homes and lives. One program ended with a jarring image: the face of Osama Bin Laden above the caption “Killed 2011.” The producer clearly implied a sense of closure—where none exists . . .

9/11. Never Forget.

Today is the 10th anniversary of the day America changed forever. Future generations may well note that this day in 2001 marked both the end of America as we knew it, and the beginning of the New America, with DHS and TSA and a host of other new alphabet soup agencies. It was the spark that created the Patriot Act, a swift and certain plan to “temporarily” curtail our liberties that was supposed to last but four years. And yet, it remains in force. Like many people, my perception of the world changed that day. No longer was America secure in the fact that no one would dare come after us on our own soil. Too, that day I realized how quickly the world could devolve into anarchy, and how woefully unprepared I was to defend my family, should panic break out, and the police be unable to stop looting, assaults, and other activities that seem to breed in times of emergency. But today, I’d like to focus not on self-defense, but in looking back.

ATF Death Watch 79: Chickens, Meet Roost. Roost, Meet Chickens.

3

Well, it seems that the movable feast of malfeasance that is the AFT and their Fast n’ Furious Follies moves down the street from the Congressional chambers to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Yep. Messrs. Issa and Grassley are takin’ their show on the road, and are going to stage a command performance at the nation’s most famous work-out-of-your-home-office, the White House. In a letter dated Friday, Rep. Issa and Sen. Grassley have made a formal request for all records and communications regarding Fast ‘n Furious that involve three senior White House officials. Oh my…what’s that sound? Ah, yes. It’s all those chickens Rev. Wright spoke of coming home to roost.

Mossberg 930 SPX Explodes, Wolf Ammo (and operator error) to Blame

19

This video shows the aftermath of some faulty Wolf ammunition. A Mossberg 930 SPX was running Wolf slugs when one of the rounds squibbed. A “squib” is when the primer goes off but not the full charge and propels the projectile into the barrel but not out the muzzle, meaning the barrel is obstructed. The shooter did the usual malfunction drill and racked a new slug into the chamber, then fired. The pressure caused by the two projectiles in the barrel made the barrel rupture and split open. Wolf ammunition has since offered to refund the shooter for the ammo as well as pay for the repairs to the shotgun, but I don’t think I would ever trust a gun that has been fixed after an accident like that.

Moral of the story: If your gun goes “click,” check the cartridge to ensure it’s not a squib.
