Question of the Day: Would You Tell Your Child to Carry on Campus Illegally?

42

Silver posted the following comment re: bans on concealed carry on college campuses: “I’d ignore the no-carry law on campus, personally. Get a pocket gun, keep it concealed and secure, and no one’s the wiser. Let the sheep huddle and cry while waiting to be shot if some maniac opens up on campus, not me.” Well fair enough. But what if your son or daughter wanted to carry a gun on campus in contravention of laws banning CCW? Would you recommend risking prosecution, expulsion and the permanent loss of their gun rights? Would you give them your gun? Or advise them to carry a less-than-lethal alternative? Does it matter if it’s a son or daughter? Would you tell them to transfer to a college that allowed campus carry?

ATF Death Watch 73: Phoenix U.S. Attorney’s Office Implodes Over Gunwalker

“Federal prosecutors from Los Angeles and San Diego will take over cases arising from a flawed law enforcement operation in Arizona that is being investigated by Congress and the inspector general’s office at the Justice Department,” the AP reports. “The change comes at the request of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Phoenix, which was deeply involved with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in carrying out Operation Fast and Furious, the program aimed at taking down major arms traffickers.” Or not. . . .

U.S. Guns Sales Surge 15th Straight Month, Up 13.5%

34

The National Shooting Sports Federation (NSSF) is the firearms industry lobby group that keeps track of everything gun business related. As you can see from the chart above, August firearms sales were up relative to any year over the last ten years. More specifically, “The August 2011 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 815,858 is an increase of 13.5 percent over the NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 718,971 in August 2010.” Make the jump to see the 2008 “Obama surge” that set the pace for 2011. If Americans re-elect The One in 2012, it’ll be chocks away for the U.S. gun and ammo biz. Again.

Question of the Day: Are Multi-Function Weapon Lights Multi-Mistake Weapon Lights?

A member of TTAG’s Armed Intelligentsia asked the Rabbi to recommend a light for his gun. The answer came with a stern warning. “The vast majority of lights have click-on switches and multi-functions which I prefer to call ‘multi-mistakes’.” The Rabbi reckons that’s a gurney full of not good; the chances of quickly, quietly and efficiently activating the “correct” light setting in a self-defense situation are low. “My preferred lights are by Surefire: 6P LED, LX2 Luminex, 6Px Pro. There are probably a few other models that qualify as well. There are a number of off-brand and lesser known names in the business that cost less, but I don’t know about their reliability. They may be just as good but I don’t know . . . When it comes to live saving equipment, I buy the best.” Is he wrong?

Will You Vote for a Master Debater or Go With a 2nd Amendment Supporter?

The second, big GOP Presidential candidates debate will be held tomorrow evening, sponsored by NBC and Politico, from the Reagan Presidential Library in California. This will be the first debate with the participation of Texas Governor Rick Perry, the guy who’s announcement more-or-less stole the show at the recent Iowa Caucuses. While November 2012 is a long, long, long way off (eons in Political Time, in fact) conventional wisdom suggests that the winner of the GOP primary will go on to face the incumbent, President Barack Hussein Obama, in the general election. As a public service to the TTAG Armed Intelligentsia, we thought it might be useful to look at the major candidates and the President, from a “what’s their position on guns” point of view. We’ll start with the incumbent, and move on to the challengers, in order of their current poll rankings.

Tip of the Day: A Gun is Not a Penis

63

There’s a long tradition among those of the anti-gun rights bent of explaining the motives of anyone who owns a gun by claiming that they’re actually trying to show that their penis is bigger than everyone else’s. That, or their compensating for a lack of, um, substance in that area. Never mind that this explanation conspicuously excludes women gun owners. Gun grabbers seem to have a need to impugn the motives and mental health of anyone with whom they disagree in the basest terms. This pseudo-Freudian, phallo-centric theory of the popularity of guns is not only shallow and lazy, it also exposes those who resort to it as the narrow-minded demagogues they are…

Ohio “Vigilantes” Assault Undercover Cop. What Are the Odds?

13

“Officers said the incident began at the Chateau Club in Harrison Township [Ohio],” whiotv.com reports. “According to police, the two men followed the officer southbound on Interstate 75, came up behind him near Stanley Avenue and began bumping his personal vehicle, forcing him into the guardrail. Police said the men then pulled over on the exit ramp to Route 4. Sgt. Clarence West said, ‘The gentlemen said they apprehended the person who just robbed them at the Chateau Club that is in the county at Wagner Ford Road.’ Officers said they believe that part of the men’s story is true and that someone did approach them in the parking lot and rob them at gunpoint. However, police said they believe the two men became confused about which car held the robbery suspects. Police said this is one of the reasons why they advise people not to take matters into their hands. Cases of mistaken identity are pretty common.”

“The World Looks Different When You’re Looking at it Down the Barrel of a Loaded Gun”

That’s definitely not something I want to experience, but I’ll certainly take Robert Eells’ word for it. Eells survived a bullet to the gut, drew his legally concealed gun, returned fire and repelled three street scum who were trying to rob him. Chalk up another one for the good guys. The Temple University student was just fortunate he wasn’t walking the two blocks to campus when he was attacked…
