We’ve covered almost every square inch of this place looking for stuff that we think is cool and interesting, but there’s always the possibility we missed something. So I ask you guys, is there anything we missed? Something you want to see more of?

      • It looks like they made a start talking to the Tula people. I think I’d like to see it continued with some interviews of other ammo manufacturers as well.

  1. If you could find out an expected street date on the new Magpul gear for the Mossy 500, that’d be cool. Something like “end of the month” or “2Q.” They’ve got it on their website with “Coming 2013.”

  2. How about unique or odd guns? I realize it’s a gun show and this is a gun site but hoe about some more knives?

  3. Actually, you know what I want to know?

The general feeling on the floor.

Not the guys who are full of vim and vigor because they’re trying to sell stuff. Everyone else. What is the general atmosphere there, given all that’s going on?

    • +1 This

Edit to Add: I went in to a local gun store right after Obamas EO’s went public. There was a handful of people and we were all just in awe and there was silence (sort of) over how stupid the EO’s were compared to what was expected.

There was a local news crew outside. My partner and I left quickly because being seen there with out ambulance coukd have caused us a couple issues… especially how the MSM likes to distort things. Before the crew started filming an employee went outside and askes them to leave. I wish I heard more but the reporter was shouting angerly.

        • Thanks I’ll check them out. For some reason I always default to Guns and Ammo. Don’t know why- hate the parking and customer service can be lacking – or worse.

        • Theres another store on Germantown Rd on the Southeast corner of the Dexter Rd intersection. They actualy had a pretty good selection of product and ammo. Great people there too.

Matt, sorry to jack your post

    • My sense is that most (unsurprisingly) share the consensus on this site. More interesting to me were my chats with Mike Fini, CEO of Ruger; Jason Hornady; General Counsel of Glock; VP of Marketing at Beretta: VP of Marketing at Sig: To a man, they all agree that a response is necessary, and are relying on NSSF to rep the industry.

Thus am I pursuing NSSF to get a response out there: http://guardamerican.com/index.php/blog/47-safety/351-school-safety-training-sandy-hook-what-is-your-school-s-answer

  4. How about Faxon Firearms? I haven’t seen much coverage of their ARAK upper. According to their FaceBook page they’re at booth 7006.

    • +1 I would also like you guys to go get hands on the ARAK upper and tell us your thoughts.

-Maybe some pricing and availability on the MPX-C?

Great job this year with the coverage!

  5. Hi Nick: Thanks for teh coverage:
Here are some things I’d like info on if you have time:
    1. The new U.S. Optics 1 x 8 Scope.
    2. Remington 783 (or whatever the numbers are on that new rifle)
    3. Ruger Guide Rifle
    4. Anything new in the Thompson Center rifle line? Will they ever product the Warlock again?
    5. More detail on what’s new in Mossberg’s MVP rifle line.
    6. More detail on the Beretta ARX 100 – ask Chris to snag me a Beretta catalog!
    7. Any info on how manufacturers are responding to gun-buying frenzy? Are they ramping up production, or are they scared to invest more into product lines that may be on the chopping block?

  6. Two things I’m interested in:

    1. Outlook of the industry on upcoming legislation.

    2. How’s the new PPX and PPQ M2 from Walther?

      • I love my Marlin .357 lever action carbine.

I’ve hand loaded fast rifle powder in ’em, and it really speaks then. But those rounds are just too crazy out of a 6″ revolver barrel.

        • I spent several months looking for a good used Marlin .357 lever-action carbine. The new Marlins cycle like cheap coffee grinders. Fortunately, I was able to purchase a used Winchester 94 in mint condition a few weeks ago.

        • “Fortunately, I was able to purchase a used Winchester 94 in mint condition a few weeks ago.”

Wow, you did? Really!? I hadn’t heard that. 🙂

          When is the review coming?

    • From the tenor of the coverage, particularly the ratio of actual equipment reportage vs. booth-babes coverage [compared to last year, at least], it seems that there is a much more serious approach to the show this year. Sort of – this is not the time for frivolity.

      • On the other hand, the few booth babes we have seen have been high quality. I’ll take it.

If you want to revisit the CZ booth and take some more pics of/with Tereza, I’d be OK with that, as well.

      • Why not?
I’ll contact my rep in Congress again as soon as I see a busty brunette fondling a sub-machine gun.

  7. Last year beretta showed off the arx in .22. Then it completely fell off the radar. Is there any news on this gun?

  8. What’s at the Accuracy International booth? Even if nothing is new, I’d like to see what they’re showing.

  9. Mission First Tactical has a new AR stock. I have seen the cad pictures on their website, but haven’t seen a picture of a real one yet. They’re at Booth 11966!

  10. Great coverage guys!

I would like to read about how manufacturers are reacting to the Recent Unpleasantness. Magpul has stated that they are running full bore, but how about everyone else? Are they trying to get more product in the hands of consumers or afraid to be stuck with unsellable inventory? Consumers need this info for purchasing decisions.

Also, what about the Magpod? They were supposed to be ready last fall, now they say 2013.

Maybe some more pictures of booth babes since you’re there and all.

  11. Well, you could start by describing what we’re looking at in that pic above.

I’d like to know if you saw or handled any nice guns – which means that they had none of the following: Plastic, aluminum, duracoat, parkerizing, composite stock, wanker rails, torx fasteners and red-dot scopes.

    • I will henceforth be referring to all Picatinny rails as “wanker rails.”

This will work well, because I have a friend who consistently refers to them as “Picante rails.” I’ve asked him how spicy they are, and he just looks at me funny.

    • none of the following: Plastic, aluminum, duracoat, parkerizing, composite stock, wanker rails, torx fasteners and red-dot scopes

At least you stopped before firing pins for those pusscake primers. 😉

There’s nothing quite like flinty rocks that go sparkly. Or the magical ones that can intercept radio waves. I just built the kiddos a crystal radio, unplugged the electric fence and made an antenna out of the mile+ long top wire. Hotdamm, we can hear stations from Canada.

      I’m Stone Age, baby!

      • “Hotdamm, we can hear stations from Canada.”

That’s kinda neat, but why would you want to, eh?

      • Though I’m taking a flyer here, I’m rather sure from DG’s posts and general knowledge that he was referencing an appreciation of quality and more importantly craftsmanship. Not the primitive, the sublime.

I love tech. Many of my firearms are machined, coated, and treated in ways that won’t be mainstream for 20 years. And are frankly ahead of the bleeding edge in custom (let alone commercial) firearms – though it’s rote stuff in other sectors.

DG has an appreciation of a Parker or Holland&Holland by virtue of understanding the work and materials from which they were created.

A dollar-store quartz pos tells slightly more accurate time than a $300K Patek Phillipe. But the difference is the appreciation of watching that skelotonized movement and an appreciation of the work that made it happen. There’s a certain feel. Some get it. Some don’t.

Apologies DG, if I’m wrong about any of this.

  12. Aside from seconding Matts request, Im happy. It was nice to have a bit of a break from the politics. Thanks for the hard work guys.

Oh maybe some pics of Randi Rogers (formerly Team Glock) with Comp Tac. Shes freakin cute

  13. Thank you for the coverage.
I would like to see more of the DD ISR rifle.
Also any Info on what manufacturers are doing to catch up with demand/ outlook for the next year.

  14. What happened to the post about the NYS law?

I’m happy with the coverage of SHOT, don’t want to see anything in particular, just enjoying seeing it all.

    • There was a possibility that another section exempts handguns that are registered. I can find no evidence to support that, but I also don’t trust my alcohol impaired reading abilities to make that determination for certain. So we’re holding off.

      • In NYS, ALL handguns are registered. You buy it first, a judge “approves” the addition to your permit, and then you get a coupon to show the gun dealer, and a revised license. Amusingly, any change, deletion or addition, means new permits. What happens with people who have dozens of guns? Why I’m glad you asked! One of my range friends has the most guns on file in Westchester. He gets a STACK of new permits every time he acquires or deletes a gun from his permit.

      • I dove into that yesterday: the first subsection says its illegal to own any handgun, then the second subsection says blah blah, then the last part says all of the above is illegal *if* the guns have not been registered. And if they have been. then all of the above is *not* illegal. It’s very poorly written, just like the rest of the bill.

  15. Wondering if sig is showing the new us version of the ssg3000 rifle. It’s on the website now and at 1,500, it’s 1,200 cheaper than old ssg. I know its made in the US now, but wondering about other differences. Looks like they changed the receiver. Old version talked about massive six point lockup. Does new version have this? How about the trigger that was adjustble for weight, takeup, and could be moved forwardcand backward. Is this feature still in the gun? How do they save 1,200? Got to have made some cuts somewhere.

  16. I would love to see a couple of the real craftsman. Not just military stuff, or factory stuff that gets spit out by the thousands.

Like the folks that make the tomahawks for our troops
    -or-
anything that has to do with the cowboy sports is always interesting
    -or-
anyone in the 3d printing business representing parts manufacturing there?
    -or-
There is always some airgun technology that is new. Last year there was one that shot .357 bullets.
    -or-
How about that Ruger “Shopkeeper” pistol that totally slipped under the radar….that thing is SWEET!

    • High powered airguns are a bit of an underground thing, but they do exist in great enough numbers to be far more mainstream than one might imagine.

Sam Yang, Benjamin, and a few others “mass” produce some serious airpower in everything from 9mm through .45 and .50. More custom stuff from Quackenbush is also out there.

Check out pyramid air or the Quackenbush sites to get some flavor. High powered air guns have been with us for over 400 years. Really.

      • Um…yes. Raise your hand anyone who didn’t know this.

Bleeding edge introductions still happen at SHOT and this is why I asked.

        • Sorry, wasn’t trying to be insulting. It just read like an airgun in .357 was something new.

I’ve found a whole lotta folks who are rather aware of firearms know nothing about high power airguns other than the Benjamin they had when they were six and some airsoft garbage.

  17. Say…what ever happened to that Big Horn Armory Model 89, a lever-action rifle in .500 S&W?

    Just wondering. It sounds AWESOME.

    • Military Arms Channel had a blurb on YouTube (Sturmgewehr is the channel name).

Looks like it’s exactly the same except 9×19. Hopefully the gang can get more info.

    • +1

I’ve been waiting for this one for awhile. I’ve seen some blurbs and range tests but very little else. I guess there’s not much to say when it’s built on the 45 model and it’s exactly the same, only 9mm and less recoil.

I don’t suppose there has been a realistic release date or price, has there?

  18. Hi Nick!

I like sporting clays, and it seems like OU’s costing less than my car have been disappearing from catalogs at an alarming rate over the last few years. Anything new out there?

  19. I’ll extend an invite for any of the TTAG posse or fellow readers to come down to booth 8408. We’ve got a few items of interest, and would be fun to shoot the shit… figuratively. V J at KRG

  20. Walther PPQ M2 – how does the mag release feel, shipping date? How is the transition going from S&W to Walther Arms

Lucid M7 Micro Dot – there’s literally NOTHING on the web about this, except for on lucid’s site mylucidgear.com.

  21. Stained Walnut and blued steel.

A daily post where in the comments we can post the messages we should be communicating EACH DAY to our government officials. And the responses we get! Like make a game out of it!

  22. Superb Craftmansship
Artristry in metal and wood, the ultimate rendition of a symphony of mathimatics, science, masterful skill, a masterful comand of the drawn line that has been transfered into 3 dimensional art. A muesuem piece, an artifact that should not be touched, but only looked upon in awe much as any world class Object Du Arte should be revered
    ~Buffalo Nickles~

  23. If possible, any more info you have on the Tavor and maybe some news from Sig on anymore new AR’s. I really think you guys have done an absolutley awesome as hell job! So im happy with what you guys come up with. Oh, and maybe some info from Rock River Arms on their up-coming LAR-47. Also, maybe a visit to the YHM (Yankee Hill Machinery) booth on stuff from them and maybe any other info of New AR’s or Rifles from ArmaLite. Thats all from me.

  24. Survival guns, lever-actions, DA/SA modern revolvers, pump shotguns for hunting and self-defense, knives for camp/general outdoor use, bb/pellet guns, specialty kits ie first aid gear/fire/food/survival etc, do it yourself emergency gunsmith tools/equipment/supplies/etc, and everything to do with reloading ammo.

    • ^^^^ T H I S ^^^^

Their site said they were debuting this at Shot Show…. I am beginning to have my doubts about who is at the helm over there… if anyone.

  25. How about a production update from Magpul on their mags, likewise a word from Brownells on how much longer I have to wait for mine. Ditto on Ruger BX-25, Glock mags.

Also, how is production at Kel-Tec with their new facility, with projections on the KSG, Sub-2000 and RMR

  26. Stop by the Robinson Arms booth and ask Alex Robinson the owner what they’re doing about their long wait times for rifles and unavailable customer service.

Also, release dates for the 6.5 Grendal, 5.45×39, and .300 BLK kits for the XCR-L, which he said were tested and ready.

  27. All this whingin, crying and bleeding is far too reminicent of a whail an ObamaBabyMoma would put forth.
I suggest to the Men out there: eyes open, mouth shut

  28. Please do a feature on high end bolt action hunting rifles, actions offered for building custom rifles with, both bolt and single action, any double rifles that may be on offer, and classic O/U and SxS shotguns. I’m sure there are some of all of these even though all of the interest these days is focused upon Modern Sporting Rifles. Also, if you see any interesting new muzzleloading guns – both traditional and inlines, that would be nice. There’s also a huge number of Ruger 10/22 clone action manufacturers, and custom rifle builders offering high end rimfire sporters on these. Either a show feature or a later full scale test feature would be very nice.

Yes, old farts like your’s truly do have an old and abiding interest in the simpler old blued steel and oil polished wood stuff, though I might belong to a dying breed, I guess . . . 🙂

  29. would be really nice to see more stuff about what Armscor is doing.

wish they would make high-cap magazines for their MIG22 (.22lr) rifle. its an odd looking machine, but I hear it performs as well as other competition-grade rifles.

wish I could be there too!

    cheers,

    TZH

  30. Could you guys get over to the Faxon table and look at their ARAK? That would be awesome. Pictures would be amazing!

  31. Hi Nick!
    Thanks for the great coverage!

    1) Caracal in .45? Any word on when we can get some tritium sights from those guys?

    2) Will Beretta ARX 100 civie rifle have an adjustable gas block for suppressors? The .mil version does not because Beretta makes integrally suppressed barrels.

    3) Ruger Guide Rifle?

    4) Anything new from FN on the SCAR side of the house? Like a 5.56 conversion kit for the 17S?

    5) Anything new from LMT?

    6) Have you guys swung by Schmidt and Bender? If so, how is that new 1-8 short dot looking?

Thanks to the entire TTAG team for the great coverage!

    • 7) oooh! I forgot! Can you ask the IWI folks if they will be selling spare parts for the Tavors? Guns without backup parts is like a day without sunshine…

  32. Last year I heard several mentions of a Ruger “SR30” and this year, nothing. What ever happened to that and what was it supposed to be?

  33. BOBERG ARMs!

The new Longer XR9-L – they should begin shipping in about 4 weeks and also they are to show prototypes of the XR-45 (45acp). Just get a few pics!!!!!!

  34. In a recent postng you asked if we thought manufacturers should stop sales and support to NYS LEO agencies. The vast majority of us agreed that they should stop all sales and support. Many suggested going further and stopping sales and support to all government officials, LEOs, and federal agencies within a state that does this to its citizens.

So, what do I want to see? I’d like to see how the manufacturers are responding to that question. I’d like to know what they’re going to do to help support their customers, the free citizens of the United States of America.

  35. Probably too late now, but I’d love for you guys to check out the Remington ACR, FN FNAC, and CZ 805 Bren.

  36. I will second/third/forth the suggestion regarding anything made of wood & steel (doesn’t even have to be blued!).
    – Big Horn Armory .500S&W lever action rifle & carbine
    – O/U shotguns of all price ranges
    – Any bolt action rifles
    – I will also throw in anything from CZ
I’m not an old fart yet (but getting closer!) but really appreciate classic engineering & craftsmanship.

  37. I would like someone to drop by the ISC Airsoft Booth, and give the new M1 Garand airsoft gun of theirs a once-over with their trained eye, to see if it would be a fun gift for my son, and be useful enough for him to learn on for the day he’s big enough to handle the real deal. Thanks!

  38. The anti-gun mass media claims that the American public can buy fully-automatic guns, grenade- and even rocket-launchers. Do fill us in on the Truth.

  39. Watch for guns for the new Winchester Rimfire round, test report later! Also any handguns for that. Find out when a .22 version is coming. Ask ?? about Freedum Groups plans…..

  40. So far, great coverage on rifles, shotguns, and expensive handguns. But what about developments with more inexpensive handguns? Taurus is supposed to unveil their new 24/7. I’d like to see more from this company.

And before anyone says “Taurus is crap/a joke/not worth our time…” I kept an open-mind coming into the gun market last year, and ever review I read about a newly produced Taurus gun in the last several years have nothing but reliability written all over it. Ever negative review was from someone who had never owned, but “heard from a friend of a friend…”. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve talked with a Taurus owner who’s shot 3,000+ rounds with the cheapest, dirtiest ammo without a single stovepipe.

And with my PT809, I’ve not had a single FTF or FTE with any ammunition. So, stop looking like a gun snob.

*huff…* You have no idea how long that’s been locked up inside….

    So, yeah. How about Taurus?

  41. Are there any new dry-fire training systems on display? When ammo is hard to come by or the range is inconvenient, its nice to have a fall-back.

    • Yeah, good one! The $3k FNH system was cool, but how about any in-home drop in lasers etc for us pesants.

    • I quite like the LaserLyte system I got for the holidays. If you count every shot at the laser target as one 40SW cartridge not fired, it’s already paid for itself.
