“Students at Lighthouse Community Charter School in Oakland, CA study gun violence for three months and then make Vision Quilt panels to share their views on preventing gun violence,” the YouTube caption informs. As for information about the root causes of “gun violence” this video contains precious little. Then again, why would it? It’s better to curse the darkness than light a candle, right?
So are the panels they are quilting made of Kevlar?
With a ceramic composite trauma plate as the backing for each individual panel.
To represent the resilience of the human spirit in times of great strife, of course…
*snicker*
Of course. That is the only way this quilt could stop “gun violence”
Lighthouse is clearly not an art school.
That’s funny, the last time I studied gun violence for three months, it involved automatic rifles, machine guns, anti-tank weapons, and absolutely zero quilts. Maybe we were doing it wrong.
No, there are plenty of uses for quilts around guns.
If you drape the quilt over your shoulder, it can be a recoil pad.
If you spread the quilt on the ground, it can be a shooting mat.
If you roll it up, it can serve as a shooting bag
If you use it to hold the barrel shroud it makes mag dumps so much more pleasant! (Until it catches on fire. Stop shooting when you see it smouldering.)
And at the end of the day, it’s a cleaning mat!
I’m not watching that junk. From the preview picture I can only assume that she doesn’t notice how hypocritical the idea of a cloth having magical safety powers is coming from someone wearing that cloth on her head. I mean the amount of hijab or whatever clad women would probably have a decent correlation to the number of women who have to ask for permission to leave the house. I suppose we should blame that on the cloth…
Might want to read all the fine print on that quilt, there might be a Jew clause in there buried somewhere. It does say ‘guns kill people’, not ‘guns kill untermenschen’.
Don’t knock it, it worked on me. I’ve just officially decided to commit my next murder with a machete instead. And I only watched the first 23 seconds!
Ban me.
Syphilitic skunk.
When I was a kid growing up in Sacramento the kids in Oakland were learning about guns. But I was not. The Black Panther Party for Self-Defense was doing the gun training. The times have change in Oakland. At the same time in southern California the Jewish Defense League was also training children in firearms. I don’t know if they still train or not.
waste of my life, I watched it, you shouldnt, now I’m quilting, because buying guns, ammo, reloading supplies, targets, upgrades for the guns, and parts to build a couple guns just wasn’t expensive enough. stupid learning videos!
The stench of sanctimony in this video makes it impossible to watch. This is a good reason I don’t live in Califa. I hate to image what the teacher is like. Can you imagine trying to have a conversation with someone or, even worse, having to work with someone who “teaches” this kind of faux-intellectual swill to kids? I shudder at the thought.
Send in the cranes… Don’t bother they’re here. (actually a post yesterday or so, but anyway.)
If I was a student, I would stir the politically incorrect pot and tell that woman to replace the word “guns” on that poster with the words “radical muslims.” I would then subsequently get suspended for my lack of “feels.”
If my child’s charter school informed me that they had spent three months studying gun violence, my first reaction would be to look for a new school.
Even if I agreed with gun control, I would find three months excessive.
