“Nobody is trying to take away your guns. If you want to go shoot, you know, whatever, in the woods, that’s fine, but it’s a hobby. If your hobby is [affecting] innocent people being killed all the time, children included, don’t you think you should reconsider the lack of restrictions placed on your hobby?” – Chelsea Handler in Chelsea Handler Talks Gun Violence, Activism and Kathy Griffin [via hollywoodreporter.com]

  1. Hobby? Freedom isnt a “hobby” hunny. These people need their own country, they arent welcome in mine.

    • Practically 99% of the world is “their country” already.

      Pick one.

Except for a few European states similar to us gun-law wise the rest of the world has tons of gun control and/or outright bans.

      • That’s very true, particularly countries that are especially violent, have corrupt, authoritarian dictatorships and where illegal guns are rampant. One can go further and say that the majority of the world is not overly concerned about people’s rights, be it free speech or bearing arms.

    • Last line of the linked article:

      “Anyway, everyone gets death threats.”

    • She has no talent, she’s trying to earn a living by being the liberal darling in hollywood.

She promised to move to canada after the election. She wouldn’t have to worry about guns in the US if she kept her word. Move chelsea, we won’t miss you.

      • She does have talent. She’s climbed to the top of an extremely competitive segment of show business, earning an audience one fan at a time. Even I used to like some of her stand-up act. Her celebrity interview stuff is pure fluff, I’ll concede.

Still, she’s worth a reported $40 million. She doesn’t need to earn a living at this point. What she really wants, though, is acceptance. She still feels like the poor NJ Jewish girl getting driven to school in a Pinto while all her rich Jewish friends ride arounds in Mercedes and Jaguars.

She’s an insecure, uneducated, middle-aged little girl still desperately trying to be part of the in-crowd.

  2. She should rethink her nation of residence. With the money she has, she could live in a palace in Caracas Venezuela. No guns, no problem, right? 😉

  3. Well FLAME DELETED, if you don’t like my “hobby” you can feel free to get out of my country. Tell you what, I’ll buy you a one way ticket to Iran.

  4. “Nobody is trying to take away your guns.”

Nothing starts the day like a bright, beautiful lie.

    • That was the point when I stopped reading.
Nothing screams “I HAVE ZERO CREDIBILITY!” like a lead-off with that blatant, malicious lie.

    • Nobody is trying to take your guns.

We only want to make you register them, restrict transfers, ban certain guns, limit magazine capacity, prohibit carrying them, ban or limit ammo, require they be inoperable when not in use, require insurance to own, require you to buy high priced/low reliability “smart guns”, make other arbitrary laws, and, if we catch you violating any of these made-up rules, throw you in prison… at which point we will take your guns.

      • I was going to post something similar but you said it better than I could. Well done.

    • No One of Consequence,

Chelsea Handler did not lie at all. She simply stated that you are totally free to enjoy your firearm hobby … within any and every confine that Chelsea desires of course.

  5. Another useful idiot hard at work trying to destroy a right she doesn’t understand. Perfect….Just Perfect! She should move to London for a month and see how well run, hide and tell works for her when she is being run over by a truck or being hacked to death by a an unvetted, radicalized immigrant.

  6. Not trying to take them away? Okay.
Just trying to convince me to give them up through threats of government violence.

See, it’s my choice. I’m not being forced to do anything. Just strongly encouraged to do so or, you know, be locked up or taken out by some drone with a badge. But it’s my choice. Gotta love the totalitarian interpretation of free will.

And the “dangerous hobby” argument? Dear lord. Why permit anyone the freedom to do anything because accidents and rampant fatassery kill far more than just about anything else.

  7. Her finger on the trigger. What a world class asshole who lacks crediablity. How about move to a country that does have firearms.

    • Sorry, can’t fault her for that. Re-read Rule #3 and get back to us if it says something other than “Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.” That there lobster is her target, and the sights are bloody well ‘on’ it. And everything BEHIND the lobster, granted–but, that’s Rule #4.
I’d probably choose a lesser caliber for lobster than what Glock offers (even .380 is a bit much), and I’d aim more downish so as not to waste as much meat, but still. . .

  8. Handler’s hobby is sleeping with every famous black guy she can. No one is trying to take away her hobby. She should keep her mouth shut.

        • Well, Ms. Handler, your hobby of copious amounts of vodka and driving appears to kill more people than than are murdered by firearms. Not to mention that you “need” marijuana (drugs) to go to sleep by…what a perfect schmazoon of a “Progressive Democrat”…hiding behind her drugs to avoid real life and responsibility.

          2014 Homicide by Firearm = 8,124
          Alcohol-related Traffic Fatalities = 9,967

*data pulled from CDC and FBI.

        • Don’t forget number 3, posts nude or semi nude photos of her self after drinking. She needs a breathalyzer interlock on her internet

  9. If I have said it once, I’ll have said it a thousand times. If my “hobby” isn’t causing 1% of deaths in the nation then you have no reason to restrict said hobby. In the United States you’ll be looking at 0.01% of the population dying from someone abusing firearms. Be it homicide, or suicide.

So we should restrict 300,000,000 legally owned firearms due to 0.01% of the population? How about no. Especially since those numbers have been declining for decades.

  10. I have killed fewer kids with my guns than she has killed with her abortions. That is all.

    • Nicely said, reading your reply and what Chip quoted directly below Gives me the thought that being a liberal and promoting “reproductive rights” kills more children than promoting “gun rights”.

    • OK I stopped reading comments here. Can’t go on. I’m stealing this. My wife wants to know why I’m giggling in the bathroom all by myself.

  11. If your hobby is [affecting] innocent people being killed all the time, children included…

False premise. The exercise of the right to keep and bear arms – including using that liberty to engage in shooting as a hobby, and all other lawful uses of that liberty – has (a near-)zero effect on innocent people being killed.

  12. I’m not a Kennedy. If my shooting had ever resulted in people being killed, the police would have let me know in no uncertain terms.

Of course that’s not what she means. She means that she thinks my having a shotgun in a cabinet at home has somehow led to some repeat felon in the inner city killing a rival gang member. She just can’t say it that way, because then it sounds too obviously insane.

  13. I tried watching her show once. It was god awful. Now that shes gone main stream liberal, i will file her in with the rest of the useless hollywood elitist idiots.

  14. Her Hollywood limelight is dimming. Probably the only thing keeping her from crying into her pillow at night surrounded by cats and empty bottles of wine. She really should take up target shooting, she could even hang up pictures of all the men who left her in the morning after hearing her talk.

  15. She is so proud of learning “new” things, but everything she then listed she should have learned in high school. Yet another example of a Hollywood type that cares about disarming people who don’t hurt others, while ignoring the violent criminals who do.

  16. I have my own suggestion Chelsea. Voting is a serious and extraordinary responsibility. Voting outcomes determine the direction of the country. I think we all can agree how important making informed decisions is. I propose passing a “literacy check”, as well as a basic test demonstrating a competent proficiency in what our Constitution says and how our government works. By her own admission, topics Chelsea was completely ignorant about, but was still afforded the opportunity to foist her ignorance on the electorate. Let’s all agree to legislate “voting tests” so mentally deficient and illiterate people can’t damage our Constitutional Republic. I support VOTING PERMITS

  17. I’m not sure who this Chelsea Handler person is, nor do I care, so I’m pretty sure I don’t care about her misinformed opinions about my rights.

  18. If my shooting were only a hobby, maybe I would consider some restrictions necessary, if I thought they were effective. Except some forward thinking guys in the past figured out there was more to this keeping and bearing arms bit than a hobby, and decided that there shouldn’t be any.

I wonder how this stupid twit would feel if gov’t considered her writing shitty books just a hobby and decided to censor her trash.

    • She’d probably be fine with it as long as it was HER .gov that was doing the censoring. Wouldn’t want to accidentally put something in the book that would inadvertently harm her overlords. And as a bonus she could sleep easy knowing no conservatives could publish a book (just don’t tell her about all the conservative books that would be on the black market, she thinks laws would stop that kind of thing)

  19. Ohhh, a vapid, liberal, hollywood blonde that has ‘real’ opinions on ‘hard hitting’ issues and doesn’t hold back.

    Never seen this before. *yawn*

  20. “Are you there Tyranny?, It’s me Chelsea”.

Guns are for killing every non-compliant swinging D1<k under Paragraph 2 of the Declaration of Independence, should you feel so inclined.

You could say that's inflammatory, and I can say you haven't read enough history.

Again, KEEP YOUR GUNS FOR THE END OF AMERICA. Anyone offering an opinion about when that will happen is FING LYING.

  21. There’s so much to pick apart in this idiotic quote. Her hobby is to make idiotic uninformed statements to the masses, mine is to hit a target quickly while handling a firearm safely. Which is more dangerous?

  22. Forgot add earlier…. she should probably learn to cook. You dont need to shoot a lobster to enjoy a good meal. Just a pot of boiling water, and some butter

  23. Gee isn’t the Handler one of the Hildebeast harlots who flipped out after PRESIDENT Trump was elected? Your 15 minutes is over. Go hide in your “safe space”. Not cute anymore…my 2A rights are not a hobby.

  24. Why don’t we close down those professions, not hobbies but actual livelihoods, that are responsible for thousands of innocents deaths a year?

Malpractice is the leading health issue in this country and it goes almost under the radar. Tell the doctors to hang to their stethoscopes immediately! Think of the children!

    • That’s why the uninformed and those who don’t question things are the bread and butter of the gun control lobby. Five seconds on google shows medical malpractice is the third leading cause of death and the only firearm related cause (and only partially so) to make the top ten is suicide. Their inflated 30k annual deaths attributable to firearms pales next to the 251k a year by inept medical staff.

While we’re taking hobbies, it seems gun control is a favorite hobby of loudmouth bullies who love to interject themselves into other peoples lives.

      • And everybody should easily see how argument that the medical profession kills so many people is a ridiculous argument for banning the medical profession. They never even think to apply that same reasoning to firearms.

        • Because the issue is NOT about public safety…it’s about control. Same can be said for many other campaigns designed to be acting in the interest of public safety, but the real intent is to attack individual freedoms.

  25. Whatever. Another Hollywood type that thinks they should try to lecture people instead of doing their job.
Your job is to entertain people, not tell me what I should or shouldn’t do.
I am so glad that I don’t own a TV.

  26. Unless that lobster is a threat to her or her family, Id say she’s violating at least 3 gun safety laws.

  27. It never surprises me when a wealthy blonde haired blued eyed white woman says having guns is a hobby to a black gun owner like my self and the rest of America.
I will go back to reading the Nicholas Johnson book, “Negroes and the gun: the black tradition of arms.”

  28. She and Kathy Griffin ran off to Syria in an attempt to be ISIS brides. ISIS sent them back and asked for goats instead.

  29. Far Left whining is music to my ears.

More music, please, you polluted twat.

  30. Are freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of assembly hobbies?

The 2A is not a hobby.

  31. She has a good point, if a hobby is killing people all the time then we should probably put more safety restrictions. That being said we should probably limit people’s exposure to any sort of radioactive waves, the FDA should restrict unhealthy foods with too much sugar or calories, require people wear safety harnesses when anywhere near a ledge above six feet, more heavily regulate cars to limit their speed and require breathalyzers or just ban alcohol all together oh and also ban swimming pools since they cause so many fatalities every year, let’s also regulate the time people sit doing sedentary activities like watching TV or playing video games. That way we can definitely cut down on unnecessary deaths of Americans due to hazardous hobbies.

Oh, was she talking about guns? Well we could get to that eventually since they affect so few Americans health compared to anything I mentioned previously.

    • “…more heavily regulate cars to limit their speed…”

      You beat me to it.

Lots of folks own, build, modify, drive and race cars as a hobby and a number of them die while doing it…

  32. She should probably take care of that bad case of crabs she’s got before getting to dictate terms on gun ownership.

FYI for her: DDT would be a better choice

  33. Chelsea Handler is yet another uneducated celebrity. Why people listen to these idiots on anything is beyond me. It is amazing the people that sell themselves as spokespersons for the left. Cher, Beyoncé, and Robert De Niro, all high school dropouts come to mind. The most amazing thing is people hold them up as some sort of proof that the leftist view is correct! High school dropouts!

I don’t know if Chelsea Handler completed high school. I do know she never attended college or learned to think critically yet her view is supposed to be important. Why? Because she tells jokes?

  34. The only thing we need to rethink is how little the left care about facts and stats & how much they spend lying their asses off. It is and never was gun control, it’s socialism we are fighting. It’s all in one big stinking bucket of chum they use to hide the smell of their political agenda.

  35. Dear Lord she is worthless. Just another mental and emotional midget crybaby lefty who lost her shit when Trump won. I bet she hires armed security when has to leave Left Angeles.

  36. Chelsea Handler strikes me as a prime example of a “limousine liberal” who has no attachment to reality and claims to be something but is sexist, racist and other isms. Maybe there’s a reason I avoid listening to her garbage.

Hey, any bet she has armed security guards?

  37. Except for the inconvenient truth that legally-owned guns SAVE far more innocent lives than they take.

  38. “Nobody is trying to take away your guns.”

People have been introducing regulation after regulation for a hundred years lady. In the 90s they wanted a handgun ban. Feinstein out of California openly said she wanted an “assault weapons” (whatever that is) ban. Virtually all gun control advocates right now oppose concealed carry. Saying people don’t want to disarm us is a straight up lie.

“If you want to go shoot, you know, whatever, in the woods, that’s fine, but it’s a hobby.”

It’s a hobby until you use it for self defense and then it becomes self defense. It’s also used for sports and for protecting livestock, hunting, and a host of other purposes. Quite a bit more than a hobby.

“If your hobby is [affecting] innocent people being killed all the time, children included, don’t you think you should reconsider the lack of restrictions placed on your hobby?”

1). Again. A lot more than a hobby.
2). An enumerated right in the constitution – why the F are we having this conversation??
3). My hobby has killed no one. You, ma’am, have put me in a collective, a group, with statistics. I am not a metric or a statistic. I am a individual, with rights. My hobby hurts no one at all. If someone else (like inner city thugs) kills someone with a gun (in which guns really isn’t their hobby) they need to be held responsible. In a court of law, do we hold all people responsible who share possession of a similar object that a single person used to commit a crime other than guns??? It’s total nonsensical crap. Hold those responsible for their crimes responsible and leave innocent people alone you commie statist psychos.

  39. Protesters should rethink their hobby. It’s not like it’s found in the Bill of Rights? Oh wait… 😀

  40. “Nobody is trying to take away your CARS. If you want to go DRIVE, you know, whatever, ON THE STREETS, that’s fine, but it’s a LIFESTYLE. If your LIFESTYLE is [affecting] innocent people being killed all the time, children included, don’t you think you should reconsider the lack of restrictions placed on your LIFESTYLE?” …see how that works?

  41. She lives in her urban, rich little bubble. Which is fine.

The problem is that she imagines that the entire country is like her when, in fact, about 95% of it is nothing at all like her life.

Take a walk out of the city and suburbs, little girl.

  42. Knowing that every time she opens her mouth uncountable trillions of brain cells commit suicide around the world maybe it’s time for her to rethink her hobby.

  43. Most of this has been mentioned by others in one way or another:

    1. Rights are inherent goods that need no utilitarian justification.
    2. Firearms are justified under utilitarian arguments because they save more lives than they take. To the point raised of innocent lives taken, the vast majority of lives taken by firearms are not innocent. Most of that majority probably didn’t deserve death, but that doesn’t make them innocent.
    3. Several states are trying to take or have taken guns from their residents. Every citizen faces barriers to exercising their 2A rights that produce little to no social utility.
    4. My exercise of my “hobby” has never resulted in a single death and may have prevented one. The victim said I saved her life, but saving a life is almost always hypothetical.

    • Be careful getting in the foxhole with “utilitarian” goals….Utilitarian goals led to the eugenic policies of the 3rd Reich, and mandated sterilization of people not deemed worthy of the state, to name a few. I’m no lawyer, but I’d argue the principles of the US Constitution are in direct conflict with “utilitarianism”.

  44. “Hobby”

Funny way of spelling “inalienable human/Constitutional right to armed self defense.”

  45. You know, I find it interesting that the ONLY place I ever read liberal stupidity is on conservative sites. Perhaps if places like TTAG weren’t so quick to publish their stupid it wouldn’t splash all over us.

  46. “Nobody is trying to take away your guns.”

Chelsea Handler is most assuredly trying to take away your guns.

“If you want to go shoot, you know, whatever, in the woods, that’s fine, but it’s a hobby. If your hobby is [affecting] innocent people being killed all the time, children included, don’t you think you should reconsider the lack of restrictions placed on your hobby?”

So your hobby is acceptable as long as nobody gets shot anywhere, any time. If people get shot, restrictions must be placed on your right to have guns.

And, note, that it is only acceptable to have guns as a hobby. People who want to have guns for self defense are not included in her analysis.

    • Difference is cars is not absolutly nessary for a free state, firearms are, you have no chance defeating a tyranical goverement with a auto, but firearms are a must. Leave it alone you worthless whimp. Its the new generation im worried about, after a schooling they will probably believe all this, and have no idea about the bill of rights. And hand them over just because some worthless movie star says so…

  47. Ah yes, Leftist Logic — blaming everyone else for their own stupidity. Gotta love it.

“I’m a dumbass when around firearms, so surely everyone with a gun is a dumbass!”

    Nope. Just you. Congrats.

  48. So, with that line or reasoning, it sounds like any type of sports that have the potential of people dying while participating in them, should be given up? Cars are the “instrument” in killing more people than guns, so let’s say goodbye to NASCAR!

  49. “If your hobby is [affecting] innocent people being killed all the time, children included, don’t you think you should reconsider the lack of restrictions placed on your hobby?”

I admit that I didn’t read the article so this might be way off base, but here goes…

If we remove the word “affecting” which is in edit brackets, thus returning the quote to what she actually said rather than “what she meant” according to the editor, we get:

“If your hobby is innocent people being killed all the time, children included, don’t you think you should reconsider the lack of restrictions placed on your hobby?”

Isn’t that reducto ad absurdum.. or something?

  50. She has an ugly kitchen. And I would rather go on a date with the lobster than with her.

  51. “Nobody is trying to take away your ALCOHOL. If you want to go DRINK, you know, whatever, in the WHEREVER, that’s fine, but it’s a NOT A NECESSITY. If your NOT A NECESSITY is [affecting] innocent people being killed all the time, children included, don’t you think you should reconsider the lack of restrictions placed on your NOT A NECESSITY?” This one is probably more applicable to Mrs. Handler.
