“Talk about lacking a sensitivity chip. At least if they don’t want to be respectful of my community, they could at least try to do this stuff somewhere else. I think it’s very insensitive and I don’t understand how anyone can be so heartless.” – Orlando City commissioner Patty Sheehan in Orlando machine gun event stirs controversy [via fox35orlando.com]

    • I disagree. Opposing another person’s rights is insulting beyond description.

I am so sick and tired of people like that Orlando Councilwoman judging others and trying to impose their will upon us. THAT is insensitive … and warrants a big, “Shut your [expletive] pie hole” response from us.

  1. Talk about spin in that article. I’m assuming it’s a full on machine gun shoot, but according to the article it’s just semi automatic guns.
Need to ban those weapons of mass destruction./sarc ugh that article was not an easy read.

  2. Should I drive my car in my county if there is a hit and run? Should all the bars close up because someone got drunk and did something illegal? Should black people hide thier color because a black person commited a crime somewhere? Should Muslims not visit Orlando or move from the area, or hide their religion?

It’s not insensitive; you’re being absurd. Individuals own the crimes they do, not groups, and not inanimate objects. And this is why we can’t be friends.

How come all your ire seems to be pointed at the object and the good people who legally own the legal objects, and not portions of a religion which seems to dehuminize your demographic? Can you not even see the effects of your conditioning?

    • If you follow her logic to its conclusion we should start closing businesses because someone might take a gun in there and do something bad. So we should close all the bars, stop-n-robs, banks, hospitals, liquor stores, big box stores, amusement parks, malls, churches……

In the end, people like this would have us hide in our homes and wait for the government to deliver us our food and whatever else they determined we needed.

By the way, I think her father was a hamster!

    • Isn’t that the basic premise for most “laws”? It’s about pre-crime.

Don’t drive above XMPH! Why? Becaue you COULD injure yourself or others. Well, I’m a responsible person, I’ll take my chances and if I hurt anyone else I’ll have to pay the consequences. NO! If we catch you we will take your money and possibly phyically assault you to stop this pre-crime behavior!

You must wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle. Why? Because you COULD injure yourself. Well, I’m ok with that. I like to feel the wind in my hair and be free. NO! If we catch you we will take your money.

Do not smoke a plant that we have deemed harmful to your health. Why? Because you COULD harm yourself or others. I’m pretty sure I won’t harm anyone else, and if it hurts my body, well that’s my right because it’s my body, and if I hurt someone else as a result then I’ll have to face the consequences. NO! If we even suspect you have this plant in your possession we will throw a flashbang into your baby’s crib and disfigure him and then we will illegally break into your home and assault you and your family. And if we actually don’t find the plant we’ll either find some other pre-crime you’ve committed or we’ll promptly leave and no, you will not be able to charge us with wrongdoing and we will not be punished for we were merely following orders and upholding the law.

      Good day.

      • 99% sure you are a chilled out version of MDS after a second round of name changes. Your stylistic nuances and rhetoric are too similar. Say whatever you want, because 1st Amendment, but be cognizant of the fact that your writing copycats that of a known troll.

        • Sorry don’t know to whom you are referring too.

And I’m not trying to be a troll. Just putting my liberty and freedom infused two cents into the convo. Most people just resort to strawman arguments or trolling instead of having an intelligent response though so I’m used to it.

It just really baffles me that people can champion the 2A or any other particular personal right or freedom and yet not see that all of their freedoms are infringed currently and will always be more and more because of the government that they’ve instituted…

        • Also re-read what I’ve written and tell me I’m wrong…

If a “regular” citizen were to do any of the things that a “law enforcement” officer does, they would be a criminal. And yet here we sit talking about Hillary being above the law and blah, blah, blah. Officers are above the law. Hence they are no different than hired agents of a mafia who go around and collect protection money.

Heck, at least with the mafia you’d actually get protection out of the deal…sheesh.

  3. At least if they don’t want to be respectful of my community, they could at least try to do this stuff somewhere else.
I dunno, maybe we could turn the Pulse Nightclub into a self defense instructional school and gun range store?

  4. Commissioner Sheehan says, “I’m a gun owner, I believe in the Second Amendment, but I don’t believe in these weapons of mass destruction and I don’t think it’s a good idea to bring them here right now.”

    Yeah, yeah, yeah. Whatever lady.

    • No no no, because she has a “sensitivity chip”. Do you think she has also become self aware? What were those rules of robotics again?

    • It almost always comes down to identity politics. Liberals, and usually women more then men, are for gun control because it is viewed by many of them as a ofwg thing. Same reason they will condemn Christians as a group, even though they largely identify as Christians. Christians as a block are viewed as conservatives politically when in reality they are probably the most liberal of the big religions politically speaking. Whereas Muslims generally are more conservative on social issues and many of thier religious scholars and leaders promote what would be considered bigoted hate speach towards women, homosexuals, and other religious groups if i said those things. But because they generally vote demoncratic they get a pass.

This goes both ways of course. And im sure part of it has to do with uninformed people, but I think it really boils down to turning a blind eye to the faults of our perceived allies, it takes more votes than any one group can supply to win elections.

  5. So what is the proper distance required to not offend the delicate sensibilities of these precious little snowflakes?

  6. So the machinegun owners going to the shooting range are islamic terrorists mass murderers? Oh, that’s right. They aren’t. Stop equating regular people with things you don’t like, doing actions you don’t like, as criminals and terrorists. They aren’t!

  7. Sure, she can call the shooting event – which is very likely an annual event and was certainly planned and organized long before anyone had ever heard of the Pulse nightclub – “insensitive”, but whoever told her that haircut is in any way flattering on her is downright vindictive.

    Maybe she’s a Dragonball fan?

  8. Only a liberal could fail to understand the difference between an inaminate object (a gun) and the shooter behind it. The shooter is the one who can be good or evil. The gun is an object.

  9. TTAG needs a “non sequitur of the day” post to help keep up with this sort or rampant stupidity.

    • Exactlyodo Quasimodo! I was thinking about how stupid she sounds with her non sequitur, and come up with my own: If Orlando City commissioner Patty Sheehan hadn’t been so inept at her job, the Muslim terrorist wouldn’t have shot up the Pulse nightclub.

      See how easy this is?

  10. Call me insensitive or whatever.
Life goes on. For all those that dwell on the past and infer we shouldnt do this or that because of some other incident. Grow up and move on. Remember those who were killed or injured. Live life. Dont dwell on what ifs. The present is for the living.

  11. So once something bad happens is there now an exclusion zone around that area where rights are null and void? How far out is this exclusion zone? How long does it last for?

Or are we simply going with guns are icky, I don’t like them, and it is easier to blame an inanimate object than look at what actually was responsible for the Orlando terror attack.

    • An Orlando event which she, as a paid member of Orlando government, did absolutely nothing to prevent!

    • Past President/Current Member, Gay Lesbian Bisexual Local Officials (a constituency group in the National League of Cities)
This should explain a lot. Typical lib politician.

  12. She’ll get over it. (I told her not to not to use a glue stick as hair mousse). Her mental state is illustrated by her immature attitude toward inanimate objects. We all know that they are the cause of all our troubles.

(While we’re at it, let’s ban cars. Combined with alcohol, they cause more mayhem and death than any firearm).

  13. She’s a city official, and the actions of law abiding citizens 50 miles away from her city are a source of official government concern to her???

  14. How about 60 miles away? 2000?
Or should we check in with her when we want to do something she doesn’t approve of?
And whoever told her that hair was the latest thing wasn’t talking about good looks.

  15. I guess it’s equally insensitive to have a NASCAR race 50 miles from where a family died in a car crash 3 months earlier.

  16. -“….my community…….”, as opposed to “the community I serve”. The hubris of the modern public servant, occasionally unmasked.

-“……lacking a sensitivity chip.” In her perfect world our emotions should be controlled……by others.

Control freaks are what they are……..

  17. So I guess driving a truck within 50 miles of Nice must be heartless too … Or using a pressure cooker anywhere within the Boston City limits, or fertilizing your crops anywhere within the State of Oklahoma.

The stupid is strong with this one, I see.

“Clear your mind must be, if you are to find the villains behind this plot” – Yoda

    • What are you talking about close all Muslim Mosque across the entire United States if they want to practice freedom of religion let him do it in the Middle East. Japan did the same thing Banning any Muslims from being residents in Japan and voiding visas in Japan against any Muslims wanting to visit for more than one week. But you never hear anybody speak up about Japan being racist or anti-muslim. The funny thing is Japan has never had a Jihad attack by radical Muslims I guess they got that one right remember to vote Trump in November. Special interest groups suck!

  18. 50 mi. is (very nearly the) 50 x the STFU YOU WON’T EVEN LIKELY HEAR IT distance.

    Wanh!

    Stop drinking your hair products.

  19. I have a clinically certified phobia of politicians – they make me sick. Yet, they keep poping up like mushrooms with no regard to my sensitivities.

  20. Anybody called the waaaahmbulace for this “lady?” Cuz f33lz!

If somebody is “missing a chip” (plus a few screws) is miss kamehameha over there.

  21. 50 miles away is not exactly close madam even by nuke standards. It’s about the distance across NJ from river to ocean. As far as the event itself? Don’t like guns. Do not attend.

  22. Well, glad that I don’t have to identify with that group. Could only be a self-hating bigot for so long you know.

  23. Perhaps I’m missing something, but what machine gun can shoot 50 miles? My guess is she heard the term 50 caliber and figured it cloud shoot 50 miles; regardless it’s a stupid remark.

  24. Well that’s it forget about the masses let’s concentrate primarily in only on special interest groups, freaking ridiculous more b*******. This is a free country we are free individuals to do as we please within the boundaries of the law. Just because something makes you a little uncomfortable doesn’t mean it should be banned. I do not appreciate Jehovah’s Witness coming and knocking on my door at 9 in the morning on a Sunday either but I don’t think they should be banned. This whole thing about banning freedoms in this country to protect the special interest groups makes me want to puke. I believe they should be treated the same as anyone else but instead of that we put them on these pedestals like they’re better people than the regular masses of people who live in this country which once again is ridiculous. I travel all over the United States to machine gun shoots and gun shows because I enjoy the people who participate in these group activities I have a lot of friends that are all over the United States that compete and participate in these events who are great people. I’m sure that some people in these special interest groups are great people as well. But hello freedom is freedom when is this Administration going to recognize the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and realize that it pertains to each and every citizen in this country not just the special interest groups. I’m so sick of hearing about these special interest groups which do not make up the mass of populace in our country but yet get special treatment and for why?? I claim a big BS on this one!

  25. Huh? I realize it sounds so close, but 50 miles in other words is almost an hour drive away (or likely more unless it was right off the highway) from Orlando and yet it was heartless? So where exactly can we have a machine gun shoot without hurting peoples’ feelings? Pretty hard to be more than an hour away from anywhere these days. Yes I realize that she probably believes it should happen “nowhere”, but I guess it sounds so much more alarming when it is ONLY 50 MILES AWAY!!!!!

  26. Dear Commissioner Sheehan,

No. You don’t get to set the standards for sensitivity or what is or isn’t considered heartless. If you don’t like what they are doing then you are free to not attend.

    Thank you
A free citizen of this great Republic.

  27. Why did my comment get the heave ho for calling her stupid and ugly? Her comments and her hair prove both points. At least i didn’t call her fat. But then i can’t see enough of her to make that determination.

  28. Wow! Talk about winning the “reverse” lottery! She got hit with the ugly stick AND the stupid hammer.

  29. Unless there was a staging of mass shooter cosplayers, then she like so many professionally outraged people in this nation need to un”plug” themselves and start going after the real insensitive people around us, the leeches who feed off of the emotions of good people who just don’t know the truth about guns; media pundits, and politicians who take advantage of them for personal gain, and ambition fulfillment.

She must be a cosplaying a Harry Potter character with that hair, woof!

  30. “Holding a Machine Gun Shoot 50 Miles from Orlando is Heartless”

And attempting to build a mosque down the street from the 9/11 site, which I’m sure this lady supported, isn’t?

  31. So is it insensitive to have a yard sale featuring the sale of kitchen knives if your neighbor was stabbed with one by some criminal not affiliated with either of you?

Yeah – overly sensitive. Take your medication. Sit down with your psychiatrist and discuss all your insecurities and perceived offenses that you seem to acknowledge from everyone and everything around you.

  32. By the way, Miss Sensitivity-Chip, you did know that there is a machine gun shoot happening every freaking day at LESS THAN 50 MILES from Orlando, right? Ever heard of Machine Gun America in Kissimmee? I’m sure a “well informed” liberal like you had this in your lil’ book of boycotts already. 😉

Oh, and I’m guessing you are also aware that there are at least 4 local outdoor ranges in Florida (all within 50 miles, more or less, of Orlando) that do them e-veil machine gun shoots at least twice a year and draw huge crowds. You did know, right? Of *course* you did.

So, more hurt f33lz and stuff. Time to break out the pitchforks and torches, n’est-ce pas?

You go right ahead. We’ll keep laughing at your ludicrous attitude and grandstanding. 😀

  33. How far away from Orlando would suffice for such an even to not be “heartless”? 100 miles? 1,000 miles? 5,000 miles? I suspect that in her mind there is no distance far enough which is why she can go f*** herself.

  34. They don’t call Florida the “Gunshine State” for nothing you know.

What is an acceptable distance for the machine gun shoot? 60 miles? 100 miles?

Here’s another liberal that wants government policy based on how she feels.

  35. March 25, 1990 87 people were killed at the Happy Land Social Club in the Bronx. The killer used a gallon of gasoline and a match to start the fire. As tragic as that was no one was naive enough to blame gasoline. All the blame was on the killer. By blaming the weapon rather than the individual that killed 49 people they give him pass and somehow make him less accountable.

  36. We tolerate your twisted “gay rights” abominations…and we expect you to be just as tolerant of our historical and constitutional gun rights–which gun rights BTW are guaranteed by both the US and Florida Constitutions !! DMD

  37. right! and no one should drive a car within 10 miles of a location where a fatal automobile accident occurred. Find something better to be offended by like maybe the weather.

  38. The Klu Klux Klan worked to disarm black people.
Why do white homosexual politicians want to do the same thing????

I have read the history of Florida gun control laws.
All I see are white politicians, who have gay sex, and want to take away the private property of law abiding people.

  39. I’m thinking she’s (?) got a serious point there… If she combs her hair differently maybe nobody will notice…

This doesn’t warrant a logical/truthful response as its blatant willful ignorance.. Just mockery and a hart felt finger pointing gut laugh…

Back to the Lab with you…

  40. Its well known in the Orlando area that Patty Sheehan has a conceal carry permit. Must be one another “I`m more equal than others” politicians
