“When (President Obama) was unable to (pass a gun control bill after Newtown), it was a heartbreaking moment for him, and I dont think he has ever really recovered from it. Every time you see these massacres, he feels a personal sense of failure not having been able to get more done. And I have to say, often it is the case that even the best laws in the world would not stop some of these things, but one would have expected by now we could have come up with some common sense answer, and I know this president really suffers every single time this happens.” – CNN talking head Don Lemon in CNN’s Don Lemon: Gun Control Obama’s “Biggest Defeat,” He “Will Go To His Grave” Wondering Why [at realclearpolitics.com]
Right – b/c knives were never behind any mass killings
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/07/25/oklahoma-police-search-social-media-to-find-motive-behind-5-deadly-stabbings/?intcmp=hpbt4
5 people killed by a guy with a knife and this story is totally buried by 2 people shot in a theater.
Can it get any more obvious than this?
Technically there are two suspects in this case, not that it changes anything.
They’ll never ever do anything about a KNIFE CONTROL BILL…. cause it has zero political value.
Knife control will have value if our “betters” have their way and take all of the “dangerous” guns from us, as we are the unwashed masses. When the evil and the unstable don’t stop taking life from the undefended, something will have to be done. For the children! (I almost forgot)
Maybe we need a Murder Control Bill.
Two killed + shooter killed himself + wounding 9 others. Not an insignificant number. I guess by your rationale that unless the died, they don’t count. Smart.
I guarantee Mr. Lemon that Obama doesnt care any more about gun control legislation than I do about Victorian fashion.
Politicians as a species are wholly incapable of actual empathy or concern. To believe otherwise is dangerously naive.
Mr. Lemon is a duped fool or a willing tyrant out to dupe others. I’ll let him decide which he is.
Mr. Lemon….please get you face out of the Islamist sympathizing community organizer’s crotch please.
I enjoy his support of the 1st amendment. He’s against stupidity in censorship. I wish he had the same feelings with the 2A.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JZrhUjndrk
You can’t blame the guy. If I thought that there was any law that could reduce the incidence of these armed cretins without having any other bad consequences, I would want to pass it, too. The road to hell, and all that.
Not sure if you’re referring to Lemon or Obama. If you’re referring to Lemon, I can’t comment because I’m not familiar with him at all. Obama, though, I can say that when he was representing a very dangerous area of Chicago, he did zero to help them in any way. When he was representing Illinois, he did zero to help those residents in any way. So now that he represents the whole collection of states, why, WHY, would anyone with one gram of sense think for one millisecond that he would care about anyone or anything but himself?
If you ‘go to your grave wondering why’ you lost a political battle you must not understand the issue in the first place, which is why you lost.
Wise words.
Yup.
Don, let me ask you a question do you throw your bra and panties on the stage when Obama is giving a speech?
I figured he would just throw his garter towards Barry at the reception. .
GAY goose Dirk?
He did that right after leading the Obama pom-pom squad.
So the Obama feels bad when these things happen. How wonderful.
He feels so bad, he wants to punish us.
I have to say, often it is the case that even the best laws in the world would not stop some of these things, but one would have expected by now we could have come up with some common sense answer.
The epitome of cognitive dissonance.
Anytime someone says “common sense gun laws,” you can be assured that a stream of failed cognition is coming.
I just ripped a friend of mine a new one for using the term “Common Sense”. It has become a term with no meaning except to denigrate people who disagree with you.
I have feelings too sometimes. Good or bad, they’re nobody’s problem unless andand until I start behaving like an idiot because I feel bad that day.
This is hilarious to me. First he says that laws wouldn’t be able to stop some of these things. Then he bemoans the fact that we didn’t come up with any laws to stop some of these things. Does he even understand how foolish he sounds?
Nope. He’s a liberal progressive. To him, and his idiotic audience, those words are wise.
Intellectual and logical inconsistency is the “staff of life” for liberal “thought”.
The common sense thing to do would be to take down all the no gun signs on buildings. Criminals do not care about laws or signs. Give the people a chance to defend themselves with other than kind words and smart thinking.
I don’t much care about when Obama goes to his grave. I’ll be happy just seeing him go back to Chicago, where he can revel in his gun control utopia. The cognitive dissonance caused by seeing such high violent crime associated with Chicago gun control laws is something else he can take to his eventual grave.
Let’s see if Obama can dismiss his secret device detail and cruise the streets of south Chicago unarmed. I’d like to see how well those “tough gun laws” keep him safe.
Having lived a short bike ride away from Obama’s house, I can’t imagine why he’d remain. Seems unlikely to return to teaching constitutional law at U of C or that his wife would resume working for a Loop law firm. I suspect his neighbors would prefer it too. It’s like living in occupied territory when they’re home.
News reports indicate the Obama’s are purchasing the Magnum PI house in HI. If not his main crash pad, I’d suspect he would move to one of the tonier suburbs should they remain in the Chicago area.
Higgins has told me he shall not be continuing his employment under someone who acted so deplorably to the memory of Sir Churchill.
He’s indicated that he will stay in DC (presumably to keep bullying people to give in to his whims).
Yes, I’ve heard he plans on a DC house so he can mold the perception of his legacy.
It’s going to be funny as hell if a conservative wins the next election.
The class thing for an ex-President to do is to shut the hell up about his successor.
Obama won’t be able to keep his mouth shut. He’s going yammer endlessly about how his virtuous legacy is being soiled.
And the media will give him center stage.
Yes, 15 round long gun ( none outside of cook) and $10 foid card, what oppressive gun laws. Oh, the shall issues ccw is kind of expensive (and the public transit ban is beyond stupid). Funny part is most of the “gun control” in Chicago has been rolled back since he has been in office.
The CCW is ridiculously expensive and the process ridiculously onerous. (And that’s just for IL residents – even worse for non-residents.) The mass transit GFZ ensures that the most vulnerable effectively can’t carry in Chicago. And to top it all off, Chicago makes it policy not to pursue prosecution-conviction-sentencing of violent offenders, leading to a catch-and-release legal system that puts even more law-abiding people at even greater risk.
http://abc7chicago.com/news/7-charged-in-cta-brown-line-machete-attack/301518/
…no guns allowed. Machetes aren’t guns.
Never go on the L or Metra lines. Gang trap after dark.
Also, the very concept of an FOID card is unconstitutional on its face.
The CCW expenses are unreasonable, and will disproportionately affect minorities and low income families. The prohibition on firearms on public transport will again act as a barrier to minorities and low income families.
Will he go to his grave wondering why twice as many firearms were sold in this country during the first 6 years of his presidency compared to all 8 years of the Bush administration?
Will he go his grave wondering why firearms manufacturing in this country more than doubled from 2010 to 2013?
Will he go to his grave wondering why the United States House of Representatives and the US Senate are in the hands of the Republicans?
Will he go to his grave wondering about the dollar value of all of the firearms, accessories and ammunition sold during his administration?
The american people vote with their wallets and for their wallets, will he wonder about that?
Politicians seem to think that “just one more law” is what we need and that will cure our problems. When we have so many already that law enforcement can hardly keep track of them or enforce them. Maybe what we really need is for them to stop passing so many bad laws that do nothing, do harm or violate the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
He failed because legislation is geared towards funding, reaching into the people’s wallet. When government reaches for your waistband and dictates how one lawfully protects life, it crosses a line free men & women will not accept.
I don’t care what chip he has on his shoulder when he shuffles off this mortal coil. But if that regret keeps him up nights and gives him no peace, I’m all for it.
“the best laws in the world would not stop some of these things,”
Laws do not, by definition, stop law breakers. Why is that so hard to figure out?
Laws are for punishment not prevention. And just theoretically, punishment stops repetition of the same behavior.
But a law, just like a gun free zone sign, prevents nothing.
He “Will Go To His Grave” Wondering Why
Soon. hopefully…
“And I have to say, often it is the case that even the best laws in the world would not stop some of these things, but one would have expected by now we could have come up with some common sense answer, and I know this president really suffers every single time this happens.” – CNN talking head Don Lemon”
Well, he might have tried proposing something “common sense.” Politically, I heard someone argue that you negotiate with your opponents to find common ground that benefits all of you. You don’t have to negotiate with people on your own side.
I look forward to seeing this administration’s diligent, ongoing negotiation with folks with other opinions about civilian gun ownership, negotiations leading eventually to a “deal” of some kind.
If failure is the opposite improvement then the jacktard has failed at EVERYTHING he has ever done.
You can take it to the bank that whenever someone talks about ‘common sense’ gun control, they aren’t using common sense! Sincerely, People who answer their own question….but refuse to believe it!
The real reason why Obama feels badly when the issue of gun control comes up is that it is the first issue where he had an unequivocal, unilateral, full-on political defeat.
If you look at this poseur’s record, you see that he has had one win after another handed to him – mostly by the media and the Democratic party machine. In the instance of gun control after Newtown, he had the media completely in his corner, the Democrats in Congress completely in his corner, etc.
And he was handed his hat by the NRA and other RKBA groups. Further, he was handed a huge rebuke in the polling data that evolved after Newtown.
That’s the reason why he’s frustrated. Those ignorant, hick gunowners, clinging to their guns and their religion, beat him like a cheap drum.
Yes. Our tyrant of the moment is a petty and vindicative tyrant. Too bad he doesn’t go quail hunting with slow uncle Joe Biden.
Let Obama go quail hunting with Dick Cheney. Problem solved.
But if they went deer or coyote hunting, well, different ammo used.
Don may go to his grave wondering why nobody gives a shit what he or anyone else at CNN says.
He can channel whoever he wants. He’s still wrong, and so is everyone who agrees with him.
All I can say is good
Lemon was CNNs anchor when the Lafayette shootings first broke and this is exactly what he and a couple of his “experts” we’re going on about at a time when there was absolutely no information. Comparing it to the Aurora shooting, bemoaning the lack of any new federal gun control, etc. I turned it off. Half an hour later I came back and Lemon was still anchoring but the commentators were replaced by law enforcement experts and the coverage was “just the facts.” They aren’t going to say anything at CNN but I’m sure they got an earful from viewers over the earlier editorializing coverage.
“. . . one would have expected by now we could have come up with some common sense answer . . . ”
Maybe the problem is that your answers are completely lacking in common sense. Have you ever considered – for even a moment – asking people with considerable expertise in the subject matter about what might work and what will surely not work?
If the question at hand were – say pediatric neurosurgery – why would you eschew at all costs talking to Dr. Benjamin Carson? He might have something worthwhile to contribute that exceeds what passes for common sense in the most Progressive salons on both coasts. (By the same token, if you had a question about guns, Dr. Carson might not be your best witness.)
thats your problem right there none of our politicians on the liberal progressive Democrat side have common sense, because if they did they’d realize in a free country that you take the good with the bad its called freedom! We don’t live in a police state nor will we ever due to the Constitution that this Mr Obama was supposed to take an oath to defend against any threat foreign or domestic! I guess he didn’t think him of himself as being a threat buddy is he’s a threat to freedom he’s a threat to the Constitution, and he’s a threat to the United States of America security! somebody needs to hand this fella his walking papers in a foot in the ass. it really breaks my heart that day he wasn’t able to pass more draconian gun control laws that don’t work anyways it’s been proven check the FBI files and the Center for Disease Control statistics. gun control has never worked and will never work in a free community /government. you never punish the mini for the acts of a few. And even though the news media makes it look like the Wild West on TV, the Spree killings are a very very very very small percentage of homicides in this country, all available to you if you have a computer and the ability to read a pie chart that you should have learned in the fourth grade. he’s just mad because he didn’t get his way like a 12 year old child, and good because freedom will not last with a Marxist socialist pirate like President Obama running this country! he’s a moron.
Don “Black hole took the plane”, “Blizzardmobile” Lemon
Heartbreaking? Nonsense. Heartbreaking that he couldn’t take away more freedoms from the American people? I never once cared how the president “feels” during their term. Any president. They (and their spouse) have it made. Health care for life. Pension/Income (Quarter million annually). Security detail. Connections out the wazoo. They don’t have to worry about anything the rest of their lives. They got it made.
Well – it’s not a dictatorship. He couldn’t get it passed because people don’t want it. It’s as simple as that.
I have yet to see a “common sense answer.” When one is actually proposed we can talk about it. Taking away the freedoms and/or inconveniencing 300 million Americans is not a common sense solution. You don’t punish Paul for what Bob did. Your opinion that safety is more important than freedom is noted. However, it is only an opinion. We have opinions too and don’t want to be force fed yours.
I’m sure the president is suffering tremendously. After the Charleston shooting he made yet again another call for gun control and then immediately went on a fundraiser, and went and played golf. I can see the suffering.
The irony of a drone-mass-murderer stomping his feet because he couldn’t exploit other murders to get what he wants.
Every time you see these massacres, he feels a personal sense of failure not having been able to get more done.
I’m pretty sure he’s not talking about the average Saturday night in Chicago.
LOL, Lemon, what a moron. That’s the same guy that argued on air and told someone that he had no problem walking in to a gun store and bought a “fully automatic AR15”. He was told, “uh, no you didn’t” and he doubled down. That guy is so stupid it hurts.
We do have and apply common sense law daily, it’s already there. Some such as gun-free zones would best be torn down, use a little common sense, yes! What this is is not a breakdown but the reality of having 320 m people in a non-communist system. You will have small pockets, human failure and accidents. The www has brought instantaneous data which promotes issues to seem bigger than they truly are. Society misinterprets the plethora of data as bad, worse, out of control. The MSM is at considerable fault for spinning and sensationalizing what we hear. In truth when the facts are broke down this is often not the case at all. We are safer than ever and if common sense were applied, like no gun-free zones, close borders, end sanctuary cities and deport illegals we’d all be better off.
“We do have and apply common sense law daily . . . ”
I applaud you for retrieving and rescuing the term “common sense” from the cesspool of Progressive ownership.
There is such a thing as “common sense” in that ordinary people can study a set of facts and reach a reasoned conclusion. This is NOT to say that ordinary people USUALLY study any facts. Nor, when they do, that they invest the time to reason their way to a logical conclusion. Nor is it to say that it is usually safe to embrace any conclusion after an inexpert collection of facts, without debate, and without including input from experts in the subject domain. Nevertheless, we need not surrender a useful term to the Progressives exclusive claim.
“He ‘Will Go To His Grave’ Wondering Why”
Because he’s extra special stupid.
Lets hope it happens sooner rather than later.
Why? Maybe for starters because the inability to trust a stranger with a firearm is the polar opposite of Hope.
I think I see some white stuff on his chin.
Mr Lemon, you are a willing dupe, if you were a fish, you have swallowed the bait, you have been reeled in and Dear Leader is ready to gut and filet you. Rest in butter.
“Nothing we do will do anything, but we have to do something anyway!”
Such a great piece of logic.
