“We know who’s committing these crimes — the same people committing the shootings last year and the year before,” Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake told baltimoresun.com. “It’s repeat violent offenders, and we’re determined to make sure we’re making it very difficult for them to continue to pursue those dangerous activities in Baltimore.” By surveillance operations, car stops and search warrants, rather than, say, locking up people who shoot people. Oh no, wait. “Rawlings-Blake reiterated on Monday a desire to pursue legislation to strengthen penalties for people caught with illegal guns.” Would that be in addition to stiffer penalties for people who shoot people illegally? Meanwhile, did I really hear that the guns on display are “similar” to the ones the cops confiscated? Naw. C’mon. Really?

  1. Her Honor the Mayor said: We know who’s committing these crimes — the same people committing the shootings last year and the year before.

Hey, schmuckette, does it matter what the penalties are if nobody goes to jail in the first place? Put the bastards in prison. Then they won’t be able to commit crimes year after year in the fair city of Baltimore. Geez, is that woman stupid or what?

  2. Locking people up for the crime of shooting other people requires those shooting victims to press charges. That goes against the “no-snitching” rules. The shooting victims would rather shoot back than press charges. Which leads to more shootings, etc etc. It’s much easier to lock someone up for the crime of possessing a gun than it is to lock someone up for shooting another person when the shooting victim lies and says “he did not shoot me.”
