“We said we would make New York safer and we did.” Governor Andrew Cuomo quoted in Watchdog report: Has the SAFE Act made us safer? [via democratandchronicle.com]

  1. Once again, the Governor putting his hands on his ears, shaking his head side to side while eyes close and saying la la la la la la it works it works it works we saved lives we saved lives we saved lives! It’s no wonder why people are moving from that state.

  2. Safer only for criminals you idiot. Now they dont have to fear being shot by citizens trying to defend themselves and their homes. NY is ripe for a picking for the criminals.

    • And given the NYPD track record, they apparently don’t have much to fear getting shot by them either.

Note to criminals: Do not go out robbing on Halloween wearing a doggy costume.

  3. No, of course not. No one is any safer in NY on Jan. 12, 2014 than they were on Jan. 12, 2013. The new law does nothing but turn previously lawful conduct into criminal activity with absolutely no gain in public safety. The criminals in NY state have access to the same firearms they did before and are committing crimes without regard for the new penalties the state legislature and governor have enacted. I’ve spent 37 of my 40 years living in this state and I will not spend another year here. The rhetoric about standing and fighting is nice, but I’d rather live the rest of my days as a free man than die a subject who fought the good fight. FUAC.

    • It is difficult to reconcile how New Yorkers are SAFEer when so many are now in as much danger of being targeted by cops enforcing the SAFE act AND are still at the mercy of the Bad Guys.

      That’s the New York Way.

  4. “Second Amendment, yes. You have a Second Amendment right,” Cuomo said in June while accepting an award from the Police Athletic League. “And at the same time, society also has the right to protect itself. And that’s what our New York SAFE Act says.”

Umm…wow. The derp is strong in this one.

I’d also like to know how many of the new charges are for possession of illegal weapons, and how many are for illegal possession of a weapon. The key difference being how many people became criminals simply because they owned a newly outlawed gun.

    • “Society is safer.” Cuomo ???? As my 11th-grade American history teacher sagely advised, ” Since society is the supposed cause of every individual’s evil act, we should just kill society.”

    • Society has the right to protect itself. You and I don’t have that right because we’re only individuals. Those who insist that their rights do not stem from collective permission are threats. In the collectivist’s mind, the difference between liberty-minded individuals and predatory criminals is only one of degree; neither tends to ask society for permission before acting, and both can be unpredictable and disruptive. The collective must protect itself.

      • If Andy Rooney were here, he might say something like:

“D’j’ever notice that the more Socialist, Collectivist, or Statist people are in their thinking, the more they lose the ability to comprehend that all groups, societies, and states are composed of INDIVIDUALS, who are, or should be, FREE MEN?
        ‘J’ever notice that? I have.”

      • If Andy Rooney were still around, he might say something like:

“D’j’ever notice that the more Socialist, Collectivist, or Statist people are in their thinking, the more they lose the ability to comprehend that all groups, societies, and states are composed of INDIVIDUALS, who are, or should be, FREE MEN?
        ‘J’ever notice that? I have.”

  5. “We said we would NY safer and we did” I started laughing as I read this and I kept chuckling as I type this.

    • “We said we would make New York safer and we did.”
      HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…
He’s a legend in his own mind.

  6. The new possession felony might actually get some real criminals off the street for longer, thus actually reducing crime. At that point, the SAFE act will be credited for the success and a new push to double down on gun owners will be born. THEN, when the majority is lulled, a new push for early release from the community organizers (“these laws are RACIST!!!) will end up repopulating the streets with said criminals, thus raising violent crime and giving the excuse to redouble the assault. Kind of like the Cuban boat lift.

  7. “Visit Gov. Andrew’s Cuomo’s website to learn more about the law and how it affects New York residents.”

So much for the Third Estate. I would guess that freedom of the press is largely gone as well when they do nothing but parrot for their overlords. Pathetic.

  8. This is an empirical question that can be answered by the FBI UCR data. Is New York City and State seeing a reduction in crime rates at a faster rate than it would have without the law. Until we see that then neither the Governor nor us know what the effect on crime will be. Of course, with the new Progressive regime in NYC we can expect a return to the days of the Dinkins administration which will cloud up the data.

      • Murders are the measure, can’t hide a body. Maybe Cuomo’s next step will do adopt the UK standard for counting homicides, i.e., convictions. Given typical urban closure rates the NY homicide rate could fall to less than 1 per 100k.

    • “This is an empirical question that can be answered by the FBI UCR data.”

This is an empirical question that can be answered by the FBI, BS, NYS FUBAR data.

  9. Does he have any proof or is this just mental masturbation? Does he have any statics on how many shootings were prevented or stopped by this unconstitutional act? He is a tyrant, plain and simple.

  10. Jury Nullification
A sanctioned doctrine of trial proceedings wherein members of a jury disregard either the evidence presented or the instructions of the judge in order to reach a verdict based upon their own consciences. It espouses the concept that jurors should be the judges of both law and fact.

    In general:
Was the law for which the person on trial is charged with violating within the Constitutionally-permitted authority necessary for it to have been legally enacted?
Did the defendant intentionally violate the actual ’Rights’ of another person or persons, or is the ’crime’ for which the defendant has been charged essentially based on some arbitrary or capricious statute, code, regulation, rule, ordinance or the like?

    True or False:
No such circumstance exists as ‘a jury of ones own peers’ when the jurors are not aware of their natural ‘Right’ of Jury Nullification.
For judges to not so inform the jurors of this ‘Right’ is to intentionally withhold facts pertinent to the case.

      • Thank you Mr. William Burke for the acknowledgement. “Proud To Stand With Ye”

Ancillary note: Since this particular ‘Right’ and subsequent ‘power’ of a juror is something that every Morally-conscious, ‘Rights’-respecting, Just-and-Fair, Law-abiding and Peaceable Citizen should know, but may not — request hereby respectfully submitted to each and all to please…pass it along.

  11. Some newspaper articles the past day or so shows his SAFE act is bulls**t. Andy hasn’t a single clue in his head. And now us New Yorkers can’t buy ammo online anymore. AND we have to get a BC when we buy it here. FUAC, right up the shitter.

  12. According to the Gov’s own data, this only really had an effect in New York City. Which already had stronger gun laws than even the SAFE Act. Which means I call B.S.

God, I can’t wait to move out of this crappy state. How’s Texas working for you, boys?
