So then there is a number that is acceptable? ??
That’s the antis’ point: If it just saves *one* life.
They’re all:
“There are too many gun deaths.”
I like to counter with:
“Who put out those numbers and why should I believe them?”
As POTG know, said disarmists love to baffle Average Americans (TM) with suicides, removing race/age from the displays, zero talk of self defense, etc.
Yep. Take out suicides and the gangs shooting each other over drug territory, our murder rate would be the same as Canada or any country in western europe.
If the politicians really wanted to lower “gun” deaths, just stop the “War on Drugs”. It should really be called the War On Our Civil Liberties. Because the only thing being reduced are our liberties, definitely not the supply of drugs on the street.
“Gun violence” would go way down, “overdoses” would go way up, suicides overall would remain constant.
Antis don’t care about anyone’s life, except maybe their own. They’re more worried about holding onto their own political office.
Not me. I like to counter with “Well, if that figure is ‘too many’, according to you, then what is the ideal number of gun deaths you’d be satisfied with?”
When the knee jerk “zero” figure shoots from their mouth, I’ll remind them that some gun deaths result from people defending themselves against violent criminals, or the police taking out a violent criminal. Viewed in that context, I inform them that their position isn’t really so much that their are too many gun deaths, but rather that there are not enough rapes, robberies and murders of innocent, defenseless victims.
“Nooooo………….that’s not what I meant” or “Nooooo……….that’s not fair” or some evasive counter is their next move, or my personal favorite, “You must be one of those right wing, psycho gun nuts, huh?”
We can all agree we have had too much immigration as to allow in subversives who would strip us of our Liberty .
“Indeed the safest road to Hell is the gradual one–the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts,…Your affectionate uncle, Screwtape.”
― C.S. Lewis, The Screwtape Letters
“Compromise is a word found only in the vocabulary of those who have no will to fight.”
― Josemaría Escrivá
Many thanks Henry… Nothing better then C.S. Lewis on a Saturday morning… And so very true that is… I can see your powder is dry Sir… God Bless…
The quote about compromise is wrong, at least in the gun debate. As defined by the antis, “compromise” means “I win, you lose.” And they have plenty of will to fight. Just look at the bills introduced in California. They want a “compromise” that will allow the state to limit long gun purchases to one a month. Why? Because more guns = more gun crime, and they therefore have to get the guns. Ban the Bullet Button, requiring registration of all existing ARs/AKs as “assault weapons.” Under the California Assault Weapons registry, such firearms cannot be sold or transferred in the state, and you actually have to leave the State in order to even advertise them for sale. In addition, even transfers on death are problematic, as the law encourages that AWs be turned into the police at death instead of given to heirs.
And this is to say nothing about Gavin Newsome’s initiative proposition to require ammo licenses and background checks on all purchase. Just recently, a member of CRPA posted on Newsome’s facebook page a link to an article that wherein “The VP of the LA County prosecutors association thinks this is a bad idea: http://www.laadda.com/the-ammo-police-is-not-the-answer-to-criminal-use-of-firearms.” Of course the post was deleted.
In this election cycle’s full court press, “compromise” doesn’t mean what most think it means. Which is of course the objective.
“And they have plenty of will to fight. Just look at the bills introduced in California”
That demonstrates will to run off at the mouth. If push comes to shove, those are the people who’ll be found hiding under the bed, waiting to be drug out and hung by the people who have the will to fight.
But there aren’t too many drownings, so common sense ocean, lake, waterway, swimming pool and bathtub reform can probably wait until next month.
You forgot to mention 5 gallon plastic buckets. Nobody NEEDS five gallons of liquid all in one place, and they are too easy to refill anyway. There should be a law mandating a cover that requires a special tool to remove before you refill the bucket. Or better yet, once the bucket is empty you have to throw it away, no refilling allowed.
Obesity deaths that claim far more lives………big Mac control.
Yea, they want that too.
You can put anything up your body cavity for sexual pleasure and it is celebrated in California. But you cannot drink raw milk because they will send the police to arrest you with guns drawn.
The very definition of “out of control”.
There is no compromise when it comes to corruption. You have to fight it.
A. K. Antony
Not enough criminals getting killed.
“Hopefully all of us can agree there are too many deaths from guns.”
I disagree. There are too many deaths from criminal activity.
Exactly!
Hey now, that’s Pan’s constituency you’re talking about.
Hopefully all of us can agree there are too many infringements against our Liberty.
This is why we need a federal preemption bill. No state should have the power to violate the Constitution until challenged in court. Get Trump in office along with a GOP Congress and watch the liberals run like the rats they are.
Very true, time to take off the gloves.
wonder if Senator Pan and Trump could make a deal…
I think it’s going to be more along the lines of “you’re FIRED” followed by a quick response from Trump’s Marine detail. (Those Secret Service pussies need to go back to chasing counterfeiters.)
Putting the question of liberty aside for a moment… Even if you could limit the supply of legal guns in California all you would do is guarantee a very profitable illegal gun trade from Mexico.
I doubt any of THOSE guns would have bullet buttons or be limited to semi-automatic fire.
Isn’t that what Leland Yee got busted for?
No. He was busted for (but plead guilty to other charges for corruption and bribery) acting as a middleman to arrange the sale of fully automatic surplus firearms being sold by the Philippine Moro guerrillas. They were to be transshipped through New Jersey and then sold in Europe, Africa, or the Middle East. One of his recorded statements, though, had him admitting that he really didn’t care about gun control, even though he was the proponent of the Bullet Button ban bill that year.
Heh, then California would start finding that all of their crime guns came from Operation 2 Fast/2 Furious, with Mexico acting as the middleman.
The only thing I can agree with CA Senator Pan is that there are too many Communist Tyrannists like Senator Pan in the California State Senate.
Shut up, Pan.
I don’t see much need to analyze the words of a gun grabbing communist traitor. Let’s just say “You’re convicted by your own words.” and hang them from lamp posts. Remember what Barry Goldwater said!
These people are not entitled to life, liberty, or the pursuit of happiness because they would deny those things to everyone else on morally and ideologically false pretexts.
We’re behaving like those people in the French Revolution that had pleasant chitchat while standing in line waiting for the guillotine.
BTW, I notice there’s a suicide hot line ad on this site. Is there some new federal law that says gun related web sites must have suicide hot line links on them?
Not that I’m aware of, but I suspect that RF and the gang thought it was a good idea, since a large number of the deaths by firearm in America are related to suicides. The link is there as a public service since most search engines pop up TTAG at the top of the list when you search for anything having to do with guns. It may in fact have some value in preventing suicides, there is probably no way to be certain, but it also shows that POTG care about the problem of suicide by firearms while the Anti-2A crowd only care to lump them into their statistics for political ammunition.
Common ground: let’s all get together and do what I want.
Something I think we can all agree on is that California has too many liberal politicians. I believe we can find common ground, by limiting the number that can be released from the asylum at any one time.
It’s the beginning of a dishonest strawman argument. He’s trying to frame it that if you don’t support some of his ideas, then you are in favor of deaths by firearms. Obviously, many here would rather deal with the criminals who use guns as part of the chosen profession. But to Pan, that’s hard work and requires being judgmental of some people he believes are ultimate victims of an unfair society, as opposed to their own choices.
Sadly 2A appears destine to lose in 2016. No one on the publican side will carry the general regardless of who wins on the Democrat side. The rifts between conservative and populist and old guard ruling class republican are too great. It’ll break down this way; Ovary or Bernie will not pull President Zero’s 2012 vote numbers, but Trump/Cruz/Rubio won’t pull Romney’s 2012 numbers. The erosion will be equal or greater in the Republican side, hence another Democratic president with multiple Supreme Court appointments. One is replacing a liberal, the other will likely be a conservative getting replaced.
Maybe I’ll be wrong and people will come yo their senses, but with the emotionalism running at high levels, I don’t see it happening.
The battle for gun civil rights will be at the state government level. If you have a pro liberty government at the state and local level you will have your rights protected.
Only the residents of the state can effect change. You people in California have to walk the street’s carrying signs and empty holsters.
Only you can save yourselves.
Dick Pan’s plea. Heh heh
I think the level of violence is a constant, because it’s society/culture driven. The device used will just change.
If you just attack the device, you fix nothing. Unless it’s that you just want to attack the device for some other reason.
Senator Dick Pander. I can guess where his money comes from.
/me goes on a buying spree. I’ll buy 2 a month until this bill passes or fails. Join with me and double your gun purchases.
Bought 2 in the last two weeks. AR15 Pistol in 7.62×39 with evil brace and yesterday a 7.5 inch Target Grey Ruger Super Redhawk Cannon in 454! Buy,Buy,Buy!!!!
This year I’ve bought a Mauser 98K, Izmash made Saiga in 7.62X39 MM and a Remington 1903A3. I’m looking forward to the first gun show of the year next month.
Ummhmm… As much as I dislike death penalty…
I’m afraid there are too few gun deaths, at least in certain segments of the population. The world would likely be a better place if criminals who commit crimes that justify defensive use of deadly force got stopped for good more often.
I guess it would be great if nobody had to resort to killing someone in defence of life, liberty and happiness. But that’s not the world we’re living in.
Don’t forget solving Overcrowding and drain on budgets!! Of course that cuts in on the cash made by the courts/lawyers.
This is just government begatting government.
Got ” to do something”
Meanwhile about 210,000 people a year die from doctors malpractice, from simply doctors making preventable mistakes…..so?
Why isn’t this being addressed?
Politicians fail.
Loaded-ass question. Hopefully all of us can agree there are too many Marxist freedom hating politicians in California? How about that.
Yee’s replacement?
About 9,000 out of about 322,000,000 die unintentionally from guns per year. Do they have ANY idea how ridiculous that it is to start putting heavy restrictions on something because of that whether you believe that it’s a right or not?!?
If we put restrictions or banned every damned thing over every little death, then everything would be illegal.
They don’t call for these kinds of restrictions on alcohol, which kills thousands and ruins more lives through addiction, and that’s purely a luxury. It doesn’t have any practical purpose like self defense.
I don’t hear them wanting to put a limit on how many drinks you can buy per year.
You don’t need to pass a background check to make sure that you don’t have any DUI’s or history of domestic violence or public intoxication before you buy a drink.
They don’t want to restrict alcohol purchased to bars and then report how many drinks you have to the government… For the children whom you might abuse or negligently kill in your drunken state.
He wants to ban guns so him and his buddies can make a bundle by smuggling and selling illegal guns
+1000
Pan and all CA democrats lecture constituents on what they should think. Any discord is ignored, marginalized and discarded and unworthy of representation. He’s a doctor and cites seeing the results of gun violence is what motivates him restricting the means of lawful self protection while empowering criminals with their careers.
In addition, he supports continued reduction of handgun on the CA DOJ approve list while supporting policies allowing illegal migration into the state. To date 600k illegals have obtain driver licenses and offered opportunity to register to vote at the DMV. Democrates are systematically resgistering illegals specifically to remain in control of the state legislature and end CA right to bear arms.
Notice the dude that appears to be sleeping in this picture of Pan. Gun grabber talking points will do that.
You can thank your buddy Leland Yee for that, senator.
No sense of irony whatsoever.
I still ask the question; why is there such a rabid, coordinated attack on our second amendment rights from all sides? This is not the biggest problem faced by our society – budget deficits. unemployment, national security, illegal immigration, crony corruption, and the list goes on and on.
And yet gun control seems to be their number one priority.
Why? What does this get them? Do they believe this is what will secure for them a win in the presidential election?I’m not sure about that, there are a lot of negatives – there are a lot of democrat voters who value the second amendment.
Perhaps they think this is their ‘last chance’ to get legislation passed in this area. This makes more sense, but it’s not a given. They are using up a lot of political capital here that could be used more effectively to secure a democrat win for the president.
And we all know it’s not real integrity – that they truly believe in doing the right thing for the citizens well being, we are talking about politicians you see. Sure there will be a few that fall into this category, but integrity? Clinton, Bloomberg, Schumer…. there is no way this is the overriding reason.
So what does that leave?
Not much. And this is serious question that I think needs to be looked at. When fighting a battle understanding the motive gives you a serious advantage, and knowing the real motive sooner rather than later I think should be high on our priority list.
We can’t trust these people an inch, not even a millimeter – they are lying and lying big.
So what are they really up to?
Oh, and the correct response to this assholes statement is simple. Second amendment. Justification is not required. It’s the basis – one of at least – of our definition of government, and it’s clear and inarguable. “SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED”.
“And yet gun control seems to be their number one priority”
It’s a sequence thing. First, a bunch of innocuous little common sense laws, which are not even enforced, which coincidentally result in a de facto registration of all firearms, although that is clearly unintentional since that is very illegal. Once you have that, you can move on to collecting all guns and/or killing all gunowners, for the children. Once the government is firmly in control of all firearms, we can finally move forward to the real shining future they have planned for us. Er, actually I meant to say, “for themselves”, since we will be starving in the street when we are not laboring in their service for the good of the nation. And they think this will WORK! It will certainly be unpleasant.
Common ground? How about “enforce the existing laws and stop trying to ban my property”?
Limits on Shotgun Purchases Among Calif. Gun Control Measures. A shotgun is used in vast numbers of gun crimes, so obviously more controls are needed.
Soooo….what are the chances of being killed by a shotgun in criminal activity?.
“Hopefully all of us can agree there are too many deaths from gang banging criminals in the urban environment.” Of course, maybe if we gave the gang bangers more guns and drugs they might kill themselves off.
I’ve been saying for years, capture the drugs add sterlization chems and turn em back out onto the skreet. Generation freeload deleted with no double tap. You can bet the “drug trade” would dry up in a month. And you can add, Abortion issue, drain on budgets, thug life and rap music prob a few more things as well.
capture the drugs add sterilization chems and turn em back out onto the street.
I am loving it.
You have my vote!
Is this the same Californian Democrat that was smuggling Chinese machine guns into this country?
You’re thinking of Leeland Yee. Pan has been caught lying about the vaccine bill he pushed through the CA legislature. It wouldn’t surprise me if he was rubbing elbows with the same crowd though.
Too much immigration (legal and otherwise) is going to kill this country with Socialism and eventually Communism.
When people immigrate and have the time to assimilate then they make the country stronger.
When they immigrate and don’t assimilate it’s called colonization.
What we are seeing in the US is a massive colonization of the country by people from very socialist (or communist) countries who can’t even comprehend the idea of limited government and individual liberty.
I present as proof of my hypothesis;
The formerly great state of California.
I think we can all agree that if we’re relying on California politicians to look after our safety and save lives, we’re f**ked.
Texas balances California out… almost. The problem is that the MSM runs a full time 365 day a year 24×7 campaign to make CA look fantastic and try to make TX look like a state full of hayseeds and morons and the rest of the country, being as gullible as they are (they think Kim Kardashian who has never done anything other than make a homemade porn tape is a celebrity) just buys it.
Yep it is true.
However, Florida gets it much worse than Texas. Florida has become known in pop culture as the craziest, dumbest, most intolerable place in the U.S. and the butt of more jokes than Texas could ever dream of. Google search “Florida Man” to see my point and elsewhere.
Wait, shotguns? I thought it was those deadly weapons of mass destruction, the assault rifles. Or, semi-auto handguns. But shotguns? What’s next, muskets?
All of them–every last one still in individual hands. Only State authorized hands will be allowed “coercive correction” upon the masses.
Sen Pan? There you have it official proof that lib-progs do live in Never Never Land.
“Hopefully we can all agree that tbere are too many deaths from guns.”
Indeed, there are more murders done with guns than anyone would prefer. So, in a world that includes bad actors, and tools that can be ill-used, including guns … what do we do?
Our problem in California stems from the fact that the two largest population bases are liberal strongholds. People whose exposure to firearms is solely from the nightly news and movies. People who believe that they know what is good for everyone else.
The reality is that these folks hold dominion over the rest of us. Northern, central, and eastern California are predominantly gun friendly areas. We shoot. We hunt. Some of us still have ranges we can go to.
The folks that want to create a state that coddles them, and prevents personal responsibility will destroy this state. When they leave California a warren of restrictive laws and bureaucratic mess, they will leave and spread the disease to the next state.
Oregon, Colorado, Washington, and everyone else, you’ve been warned. Vote. Encourage others to vote.
Yeah, here in TX we have one population center that is Prog, Austin, but Dallas Ft Worth, San Antonio, Houston, are certainly not. Drives the progs in Austin nuts, which is quite amusing at times.
“You come straight out of a comic book Mr. Pan Man”…with apologies to Jim Kelly. Never thought Illinois would be one of the better slave states…
It’s too late to save CA from within. It’s 1861 and President Trump needs to order the troops in to return freedom to America.
There are too many criminals shot by other criminals with illegally acquired handguns and too many suicides, therefore we should limit and belabor law abiding citizens when they try to own any kind of gun. That’s the broken logic they use and not enough people know the reality of the situation to call them out on it.
Well, at least so long as the MSM hide and distort the truth to assist them.
They are absolutely right, if it saves one life we should get rid of anything
like cars, trains, airplanes, doctors, medicine, electricity, food, anything that has killed anyone ever.
like reporters who’s stories led to deaths
Just because your name is Pan, that doesn’t mean never land is real. And this “common ground” you speak of does not exist either.
