That’s interesting. I haven’t heard anything about Dr. Carson’s 2A position. Not that it really matters, since he’s going nowhere, anyway. However, based on his other positions, I would have expected a default stance of maximum freedom from him, but like I said, I just don’t know.

Carson recently came out as if he’s had an epiphany about why the 2nd Amendment exists in the first place. I don’t know if he’s being genuine or just pandering to primary voters, though.
Ooh … get him to run for President in the Democrat primaries! If he managed to win the Democrat primary, he would almost certainly win the general election. Then we would hopefully have our bases covered no matter which side wins.

The Governor’s job there in Wisconsin may be coming open along around January 20th, 2017. Maybe he could run for that?
I heard an interview on satellite radio last week where he admitted that he might think about either Mayor of Milwaukee or Governor of Wisconsin – he is not ruling out either option.

Rand Paul, Scott Walker, and Ted Cruz are solid choices. It pains me to say this, but Rand may very well be too right wing for America. At any rate, all three have actual convictions. Worse, Walker has a record of success and actually balanced the WI state budget. They’re now running a surplus.

Unfortunately, I don’t entirely trust the National Rifle Association, either … when it comes to politics anyway.
It seems like the NRA has been doing a decent job in the last 5 to 10 years or so in terms of politics. Prior to that, I was less than thrilled with some of their actions (or lack of actions) and stances.
As far as their training classes, I am thrilled with those.
I think they learned the correct lessons from Bill’s AWB and have fought the good fight ever since.
I’m really surprised not so many have responded, or likely even know about this. They lost faith way back during the Reagan administration when I was but a boy, & I’m sure you know what reason I allude to. After doing a bit of research, I found it wasn’t the only time in days past either…
They aren’t a trusted friend of the constitution many mistakenly (or willfully?) believe they are.
I wrestle with the inherent incentive structure and potential conflict of interest. In theory, if they are “too” successful, who will feel the need to send them money?
I don’t trust the NRA. The response to Sandy Hook was yet another deal killer for me. Every time it seems to pull its cranium out of its rectum, its takes another statist, anti-liberty stance.
I’m an NRA member simply because it’s required at the gun range I attend. They support NICS, that says to me they are still a gun control organization, just less extreme than Bloomberg and his ilk. I do appreciate that they didn’t support the UBC bill, unlike he that shall not be named over at the Second Amendment Foundation. And forget about their grading of politicians as to how much they defend in and believe in the Shall not be Infringed part of the Second Amendment. They give A ratings to different members of the Lying Class when it should be C or worse.
I look to Gun Owners of America for the real ratings of politicians as to who best defends the most important right.
Yeah, in the end, I would be a member even if it wasn’t required at the my gun range, just because they have been forced to be less compromising than in the past. and every bit helps; but the NRA needs to be kept under the microscope.
If you support restriction of 2A rights for mental health, felony convictions, domestic abuse and any other reason, as the NRA appears, at least on its public face to do, then you MUST support NICS. How else are you going to compile, monitor and enforce those prohibitions? This is an unfortunate stance from the NRA that causes me some concern.
The other problem is their single minded single-issue consideration of politicians. You could be a died in the wool Marxist or Islamo-Nazi unindicted co-conspirator, but if you generally vote pro 2A the NRA will give you an “A” rating against a solid TEA Party guy who voted against a 2A bill once because it didn’t go far enough in his opinion.
Exactly, Shall Not be Infringed. If your not locked up in jail, you should not be restricted in the buying of self-defense weapons. Then, if a person violates the most basic of the natural laws; that is un-provoked violence against another human,then, if they weren’t killed by those they attacked with their self-defense weapons, the human predator can pay their dues in the court and penal system. (I hope you notice I don’t call it the “Justice” system)
I support and donate to them all. As I made out my tax to the IRS I also donated to four pro-gun rights organizations. GAO, SAF, NRA and my local CCDL. I get all their monthly envelops all asking for more donations.
Of all of them, what has the GAO done lately except to get nice quotes from politicians and trumpet their own horn? Just looking at their website, I am trying to figure out what GAO has done in the last year except get out the word like all the other organizations.
SAF has been involved with many lawsuits to win rights back. Alan Gottlieb has done a lot more than I see from Larry Pratt. Larry Pratt was an editor in the United Sovereigns of America an anti-Semitic periodical and there have several accusations over the years of his involvement in white supremacist groups. I will take Alan Gottlieb over Larry Pratt but I will donate to them all because gun rights needs as many people and organizations as can be mustered.
There is no perfect as all the organizations have their own issues but without them we would be like Britain is now. Support them all because each has their own strengths and most of all support your own state level gun rights groups.

He talks about “compromise” because he says a UBC is inevitable. So let’s make a UBC we can live with. No, he’s hoping that a UBC will pass, just one he can tweak to a level of control of us the people, a level of making a right into a privilege that he is happy with.
He is to me, a wolf in a sheep dogs clothing wrapped in the second amendment. When given the chance, he tried to savage us as a free people and our G-d given rights and turn us into a servant to our master, the government.
So I canceled my membership with the SAF.
NRA supported NICS in exchange for dropping waiting periods on purchase. Ultimately, politics is the art of the possible. We need to differentiate between what someone or an organization is actually for, as opposed to what they’ll grudgingly go along with to obtain or avoid something else.
So the NRA gave up waiting periods for a centralized government agency that can track gun purchases by people all over the country. I think we got the worse end of that particular “compromise”.
If we kept listening to people like Gottleib that says we have to compromise our civil rights away to keep what few crumbs the anti-freedom statists will allow us, we would still have the AWB, only Vermont as the one Constitutional Carry state and no Shall Issue conceal carry.
No more compromise.

You should show more respect. Sheriffs are directly answerable to the people because they are an elected position unlike city cops or the Feds. Which is why I believe most every Sheriffs Departments around the country have stated they would not enforce unconstitutional gun laws like another AWB. This is also why they were made as the supreme law enforcement entity in a county, and traditionally are the commander of the militia of the county.
So how many other law enforcement entities have made the same statement?
I trust the NRA most of the time. I don’t trust the gubmint at all. I would NEVER vote for any democrat( sorry sheriff). And a lot of republicans are RINO”s. I trust JESUS…BTW Dr.Carson thinks people in big cities should be restricted on 2A.

See, the thing about Mr. Clarke is, is that he just gets it. This man has been there and done that, and managed not to forget where he came from.
And I’m sure the left had in the past and probably still is now throwing every racial epithet and stereotype in the book at him in their secret little echo chambers on forums and in social media. Just like they do to everyone else that even slightly disagree with them on anything under the Sun.
