“Perhaps the owner believes there will be, as a Texas judge irresponsibly and irrationally predicted, some sort of civil war provoked by Obama’s re-election—and maybe he doesn’t want the other side to have guns. Or maybe it’s just about the “other”—Obama’s race, his unusual name, and the legions of African-Americans, Latinos, gays, lesbians, single women and everyone else who doesn’t fit into the Ward Cleaver mode—that are giving the gunshop owner such a case of the nerves. He might want to get used to it. He’s now in the minority.” – Susan Milligan, Obama-Fearing Gun Nuts Are, Well, Nuts [via usnews.com]

  1. “Or maybe it’s just about the “other”—Obama’s race, his unusual name, and the legions of African-Americans, Latinos, gays, lesbians, single women and everyone else who doesn’t fit into the Ward Cleaver mode”

There is a class of people who just so want this to be the case that they cant be bothered with any sort of proof or evidence or even to make a good argument that this is the case. No, they want it to be true so much, that it is.

I dont even think this is really about guns, its about believing that there is some huge class of xenophobic, racist, ignorant fools who the Susan Milligan’s of the world can feel morally and intellectually superior to.

  2. Hi Susan. YOU are in the “minority” now too. You seem proud of that. Must be a beautiful thing to be white and doing your best to contribute to the demise of the white race. In your mind, at least.

  3. In regards to her assessment of the gun shop owner banning Obama voters, I think she pretty much nailed it.

The shame though is that this single gun shop owner is getting SOOOO MUUUUCH media attention, it throws everything out of context. Kind of reminds me of Muslims rioting in the middle-east because some dipsh!t preacher of a tiny church in Florida, whom no one had ever heard of before and nobody knew even existed, burned a Koran.

  4. Sorry guys, she pretty much nailed it. Many here have expressed the opinion that as gun owners, we should be promoting the ownership of firearms. To successfully bring others away from the “dark side” (Brady bunch) we should be seen as rational, responsible human beings.

This idiot in Arizona, with the press gleefully throwing his story all over the country, set us back quite a bit. Wishful thinking on my part, but it would be nice if he could grow a brain.

Further, with the right to bear arms, comes additional responsibility. To handle them safely, protect others from coming to harm by accident(children, etc.), use them ethically.

    • Sorry JPD: Gun shop owner is just as freely entitled to his opinion as the columnist. America and capitalism and first amendment and all that. Calling the guy an idiot and dictating his behavior is just as bad as the columnist calling gun owner nuts. All four of us are entitled to our opinions. I’m the only one refraining from name calling.

      • Don’t get me wrong, I fully support his right to his opinion. Heck, I agree with most of what he says.

The point is that by his words and actions, totally covered by the press, hurts all gun owners and sends a distorted message.

Some things you need to keep to yourself if you wish to achieve your goals.

Name calling? Well, yes. Practicing my free speech. A spade is a spade. In this case, he, by almost anyone’s standards, blew it.

So, yeah, he is a dumb***.

And while we are discussing this, there have been occasions that I was a dumb***. But fortunately, in my case, those occasions did not receive national media attention.

        • Any particular reason you feel a need to “control” the gun shop owner’s words and behavior? I don’t see the firearms world as one boat we are all either on or off. Lot’s of gray area. Thank God we live in a free country where you can’t control those of us who don’t get on your particular boat.

      • not too eloquent, where did he say otherwise?

yes he is entitled to his opinion. however, he should understand others are entitled to their opinions too, even if they do make fun of him and think he’s a dumbass.

There is nothing that she said that was inflammatory against gun owners, just this person. sounds quite reasonable to me.

  5. While many will excoriate the fun shop (lol, auto correct did that, and I’m leaving it) owner for this sign, at this point I completely blame the media for this story being what it is. Let’s be honest, this kind of thing has been common for as long as people have been putting words to paper (“And the sign said ‘Long-haired freaky people need not apply'”), and the only reason we’re hearing about it now is a media outlet had a point to make, and the rest of them followed in classic me-too fashion.

    • “so I tucked my hair up under my hat and went in to ask him why?! He said you look like a fine upstanding young man, I think you will do” So I took off my hat and said “Imagine that….me working for you”!!
In case you don’t notice it is one of my favorite songs, the original, not the remake!!
@Sqaushpup….LOL. Like I tell the people I work with…I am not a racist or a bigot….I hate everyone of you SOB’s equally!! Usually shuts them up pretty quickly!! 🙂

  6. This site really needs to figure out what it’s all about. Is it about gun ownership, or calling people “dumbocrats”? I am having a hard time figuring out how such stupid partisan name calling, lines up with a group calling itself the Armed Intelligentsia.

    • @ Chris: why don’t you & your liberal pals go hang out & comment on a pro-gun Democrat website. Oh that’s right, no such thing exists in America.

      • So unless I’m an Obama hater, I’m not welcome? That’s a great attitude to win over hearts and minds.

        • I don’t want to win over the hearts & minds of liberals, I detest you people & your f—-d up political beliefs. Now, post me a link to a pro-gun left-wing blog…that’s what I thought.

        • It’s not the fact that pro-gun democrats voted for Obama that’s bothers me; it’s the fact that they knowingly voted for an anti-gun president, just because they wanted to see something trivial in comparison to the preservation of liberty for all citizens become legal, period.

Gun rights aren’t a matter of one side benefiting while the other puts up with it like gay marriage or abortion. This is a matter of existing as a free society or allowing future generations, or even ourselves, to later become slaves to a tyrannical government in which case WE ALL get fucked over FOREVER.

The fact is that millions said, “[insert trivial issue here] is more important than not being a micromanaged pawn of the state” when they voted for an enabler, be he accidental or on purpose, of the most intrusive dictatorships in history.

Democrats have allowed what remains of the liberty that all citizens once had in this country to wither away over the past four years, all because their God-King, who throws down executive orders like Sunday morning pancakes and sculpts this nation into whatever he alone wants it to be, promised to give them some menial free shit.

      • I love it. Now I’m a liberal (which I’m not, though you don’t care) and you hate me. I have an idea, why don’t you find a political blog to read and comment on, rather than one aimed at gun enthusiasts, of which I am.

        • I’m with Chrison this. I come here for rational useful broad-ranging truth about GUNS. Also for the tolerant witty repartee. The bigger the tent the more new gun owners.
I too am upset about the election but come here to get away from that noise and theres plenty of other places to go spew hate if I need that

  7. They feel there is no logical argument for having something DESIGNED TO KILL so clearly anyone who thinks their reason for one is logical MUST be crazy.

These people are the reason coffee cups have to have a warning that the contents are hot.

  8. During my post-university job-training a co-worker said to me (as we made plans to visit a large art supply retailing account) that I’m going to be amazed that some people can make money and achieve success in spite of themselves. That specific account was much like their customer base: emotion-driven, moody, and anything but practical. Yet they made money since they were in sinc with their customer’s mindset and behavior.

Since then, America has increasing become a nation err make that a society of citizens err sheeple that live a ‘feel-good’ in the moment existence and are increasingly out of touch with what will be the follow-up consequences of their actions. Same holds true for government and politicians though I suspect some of them know what the future will bring for the average American while they enjoy their retirement on some tropical island.

America was strong when we had a country that practiced real capitalism creating a prosperous middle-class and not the manipulating mercantile and corporatist economy we have today. Our past society (while never near perfect) and family units were far stronger and healthier when masculine values were respected, patriarchy set the standards, and men did the voting. All imperial empires first become morally corrupt and weakened from within. The barbarians are always at the gates ready to attack a weakened nation, city, neighborhood or a family. Those barbarians can be either foreign or domestic enemies or both.

Know who are your real friends and allies, and who are your real enemies. Keep your back to the wall and your powder dry.

  9. Another leftist newsb!tch who would be happy to fellate POTUS anytime, anywhere — of she could only get Chris Matthews to stand aside. Or stand up. As the case may be.

  10. Seriously, everyone wants to be a minority it seems. I don’t care if you are or not but quit playing the minority card. I swear the majority of bigots in this country are minorities and they call people racist. I’m so sick of the hypocrisy that I could scream.

  11. Truth hurts, apparently. She nailed it, and the proof is that the counter arguments can be summed up as “she called us names” and “she is a bad person and she should feel bad for saying that”.

    • Wouldn’t an actual argument have to be made, in order for it to be countered? She didn’t argue a position, she instead created a straw-man using the cartoonish anti-gunner fantasy tv-badguy version of those they disagree with. What she did is just as asinine as what he did.

  12. Well now my feelings are so hurt Susan!

Personally I look at it this way. We are all Americans. Left, right, gay, straight, who cares. If you are rich or poor, blue collar or white collar, it does not matter.
One gun shop owner has his right to free speech, you know that thing you are doing in your article? So what? If people are offended they can go somewhere else.
Like many during this political season it was all about middle class, lower class, rich people, women, gays… You segregate your own society for your own benefit.

Let’s try something new… Don’t talk about class warfare anymore. Refer to anyone as American citizens. Kind of destroys most of your arguments doesn’t it?

    • There is the Law that all others must obey and then there is the Rule Book of of Strategy and Tactics for Susan and her allies to use in shaming others into silence changing their world-view and then to re-write the Laws that others must obey. Ask any man who is divorced.

        • speedracer,

I can’t begin to tell you how many men in my personal sphere and on the men’s movement sites that I visit have stories similar to yours. In one out of three paternity tests the man the woman claims is the father of her child is not the biological father.

Divorcing women get awarded the children in 96% of the court cases. Studies have shown that children raised by the father are actually doing better in their adult life than children raised by their mother.

Women have more than equality since what they have is special class status and privilege over men. Women’s health care needs and use is far more costly than men’s and the costs should reflect that since one person does not have a right to steal legally earned wealth from another. In my state I can’t get onto a health plan for men only as it would lower my rates and the government wants me to subsidize women. Everywhere we turn men get the knife in the back by government, society, women. Check out this site sometime manwomanmyth.com

BTW, I posted links to the cheesecake recipe. Since links are included it is limbo until approved.

          • Yea I agree!! I am lucky I guess in that my girlfriend now is more like one of the guys in her attitude about life in general. She believes in shooting, the 2a and on and on.
She too went thru a bad divorce and the ok saying goes about birds of a feather!!! Of course we will probably never marry, just live together till death do us part!!!

      • Yes there is!! The laws a divorced man deals with are almost as bad as the gun control laws the grabbers want us to deal with. Of course it is for our own safety!!!! We all know criminals and fascist dictatorships never ever harm the humble but revered citizenry!!
Aharon….where is that cheesecake recipe that Matt inFL posted?? Ever since the mention of cheesecake the other day I have had a craving for good homemade cheesecake! My waistline is upset!!

        • “The laws a divorced man deals with are almost as bad as the gun control laws the grabbers want us to deal with”

You’re onto it. It’s about control and funneling men into a beaten down subordinate class. Government and the elites know that it is easier to control a population by dividing and conquering the family unit, and that women as a group can be duped and sold into being the natural allies of government. So what that women are more unhappy now than forty years ago government will just given women even more power relative to over men. The women will still be unhappy and even more so but they will buy the next government’s offer as they always do. The advertisers and pr firms know how to get women to ‘buy’ since they are consumer druggies. Men are subjected to heavy legal and financial chains and women are applauded as princesses they want to be and given the gift of the glass slippers.

Actually, I think the laws some divorced men have to suffer under are far worse: being made to pay alimony for life, sometimes denied access to their children based often on lies, forced to pay child support now up to age 26(!) if the adult-child stays with the mother while attending college/trade schools, have their gun rights taken away often on false charges, etc etc.

          • Yes they are. In my divorce for instance, my ex, who was cheating on me, proven by the photos of her and her now husband together at a bar and at her work, not only got custody of our youngest son who was 13 at the time and threw a fit in court to live with me, but I had to pay $75 a week in child support, put him on my insurance which doubled the weekly cost of it, and then she wanted alimony on top of that!!
Luckily Ar is not an alimony state!! But between the support and insurance my take home pay went from $400 a week to $290 a week and the judge thought that was fair based on current state laws! WTF!!
The courts,3 times overall, ruled in her favor over support and insurance, even though her insurance was cheaper than mine, because she was a woman who had to raise a kid by herself( her hubby draws 100% disability), in such a rough world!! Again WTF!! I ended up living in my truck for two months until I could save enuff cash to get a place to live. Nothing like the laws being unbiased.
The divorce laws and the people who make them up are as ignorant as most of the gun control laws the politicians want us to adhere to and abide by!!! Probably the same bunch of people!! Although I believe to the biggest part women should have equal rights the laws and politicians seem to have a very biased idea about right and wrong, fair and unfair, and that applies to many laws and such within our country!!

  13. Well I have to agree with the first paragraph. There is too much stupid fear and buying making prices jump even higher. And Nick Leghorn agrees with me no AWB will pass threw a GOP lead house.

Now saying Obama is progun is nuts as well. But I take this 50-50 true on fear is stupid but saying Obama wont hate guns is silly too.

  14. this wasnt a attack on gun owners, it was just a jab on a single ass hat.

it shocks me how many have utterly failed the reading comprehension part. it would be hilarious if it wasn’t so sad.

  15. “…….He might want to get used to it. He’s now in the minority.” – Susan Milligan

    Dear Susan,

You get First Prize for contradictory doublespeak. In the grand scheme of the likes of you, minorities ARE victims, and victims ARE entitled to unearned compensation. That has been your mantra.

So now you tells this poor soul you define as “the minority” to just “get used to it”? Do you see the folly of your ways?

Folly – synonyms: foolishness, madness, stupidity, idiocy, silliness, craziness, recklessness
