Despite Colby’s less-than-coherent tweeting, Top Shot hasn’t been cancelled. At least not yet. In fact, our Top Shot insider, Trent, boldly predicts that there will be a season five and that an announcement will be made by mid-summer. Whew! And I thought that application of mine was all in vain. Of course, nothing’s done until it’s done. So if you’re into it – still, somehow – tune in to tomorrow night’s season finale. It may be your last chance. Or not.
Dan, my impression from your writing is that you’re not nearly enough of a prick to get on Top Shot. So if you were being serious, sorry to dash your hopes.
I’m trying to care about Top Shot. I really am. But they’re not helping.
I can see how Top Shot could be a bit of a bore if you’re participating in 3-gun competitions and writing books, but some of us have to live vicariously through cable television!
I really like Top Shot, how could gun fans not be?
– Slow-mo high-def gun porn
– Fun shooting competitions
– Enough drama to entice my wife into watching
I think we underestimate how much good Top Shot is doing for the industry by exposing more people to recreational/competition shooting. When people see that shooting can be safe and fun, they lose their irrational fear of guns.
In my youth I was really excited about guns, but that excitement died down and I didn’t purchase a firearm until a little over a year ago, when, you guessed it, I watched a season of Top Shot.
Is the huge uptick in firearms sales and ammo prices due to the election season? I don’t think so. I think it’s Top Shot.
BTW the spin-off ad-umentary “Top Guns” is fun too. They always showcase some of the guns that were used in the previous Top Shot episode. Colby proves to be self-deprecating and a pretty decent shot.

Top Shot is why companies are selling zombie ammunition. It’s the living dead of TV shows.

Any TV (cable or otherwise) show that displays the positive use of guns and shows them and shooters in a good light should be supported by people who have an interest in the shooting sports or guns, even if the show itself is not their flavor. This may sound a bit off or simple minded to some, but I seriously believe that its shows like this that help our cause. Even though many anti-gun groups are fighting for relevancy, they have many supporters who are just biding their time and waiting for the moment when the stars are aligned to make their move, or perhaps little by little as they have been doing. Either way….shows like this are the type of things that, at a very minimum, persuade non-shooters, to have a positive view of guns and as such, deny the antis one more uneducated person who may have otherwise supported their goofy agenda. Just my thoughts.
It does help our cause. And it reduces my reliance on Ambien. So it’s all good.
I agree with Rydak, this show, with its flaws still shows guns and shooting as something fun to do. I’m afraid the vast majority of non-shooting folks only ever get to see firearms used in cop shows and as deadly weapons on the evening news. So if this sparks an interest in folks to rethink their idea of what using a gun is like, I’m all for it. The “shooting gallery” episodes look to be pure fun, we can see the smiles on the shooters’ faces. And seeing jars of jelly beans and tin cans get hit is a joyful experience for just about any shooter.

Top Shot is one of the reasons I appreciate having a DVR. I record it and fast forward through all the social interaction BS. I only watch the actual competition.
This, if you skip through the house segments it’s actually fairly entertaining. I wouldn’t be able to stomach the show without a DVR though, my usual instinct when people start into drama is to leave the area.
I can’t wait for next season’s Top Shot episode where they don’t use guns. What will they do this time – throw sticks? Throw rocks (again)? Who knows!

No matter how corny the non-firearm challenges are, and the drama of the social interactions are so staged, the show does a lot of good for exposing public to shooting sports. It got my wife and two daughters interested enough to come out to the range with me…now my daughters both own their own Browning Buckmarks and they all come out regularly with me to practice shooting.
*snaps* And for a second I thought we could say “Sayonara” to a horribly ridiculous addition to the “Less than entertaining reality TV” garbage pile.
My wife and I never miss the show. We tune in to see what new weapon they will come up with next. I want to be a contestant and hope they have a fifith season. This is one of the most enjoyable shows on TV. We enjoy the competition and seeing how well our favorite does.
