The outdoor writing world lost one of its most talented and well-liked young professionals last night. Hunter, writer and father J. Guthrie passed away in his sleep last night, far too early and far too young. The Armed Intelligentsia may recall him from a couple of years ago, when he blasted this luckless prairie rat with a .338 Lapua at 789 yards. He was just 37, and he leaves behind a wife and two young children. 1. Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there… I do not sleep.
I am the thousand winds that blow…
I am the diamond glints on snow…
I am the sunlight on ripened grain…
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you waken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of gentle birds in circling flight…
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry—
    I am not there… I did not die…

  2. A terrible loss for the hunting and shooting community. Will miss watching you hunt with the AR around the world. May you have a never-ending supply of .223 and plenty of range days up there in the sky. Rest in peace.

  3. I enjoyed his shows with Metcalf and his articles. Sad to lose anyone at such a young age. He was did a good job in the firearms media. Prayers for his friends and family.

  4. RIP, sir. The shooting community grieves the loss.

I hope to try a groundhog shot at 789 yards with my .338 LM, but I doubt I could make that shot. Your prowess, humor, and insight will be missed.

  5. What makes him better than the prairie dog?

Hope he lived his last few moments in complete bliss followed by sudden and extreme shock and pain.

    • Puskin the dork. You must have the brains of a prairie dog if you compare a rat with a man.
      Effing libtards.

    • Puskin– To answer your question, it was God ( have you heard of Him– the creator of the universe?) who made him better than the prairie dog. The bible is clear on that. Even if you don’t believe, you are a hypocrite unless you are a vegan who never wears or otherwise uses any animal by-product (leather, etc).

  6. Pusskin, did I spell ur name wrong, at lest I got the first part right . Will keep u n our sights.U must be a Libreal.

  7. I love it when liberals talk about not killing God’s creatures, and how wrong it is. Then turn around and kill 4 million human babies per year in abortions.
