If you carry a Glock 17 or 19, and who doesn’t these days, then you might be interested in the new Solis drop from Safariland. Safariland first introduced the Solis last year for subcompact pistols with lights and optics and now they’re giving the same treatment to the Glock 17 and 19.

The Solis is an Outside the Waistband (OWB) holster using Safariland’s ALS (Automatic Locking System) retention system. The ALS is solid and intuitive. It’s the system I’ve used on my duty holster for probably close to 10 years now. The holster is made from SafariSeven, which is a proprietary Dupont nylon blend that’s extremely tough, and withstands extremes of heat and cold. As an added bonus, it won’t mar your gun’s finish. The Solis has an open muzzle design that allows for easy cleaning and will accommodate a threaded barrel. The Solis will also accommodate a variety of optics and lights. You have the option of getting a paddle only version or one with both the paddle and belt slide.

If you’re looking for a Glock 17 or 19 holster for EDC, or plainclothes work, then the Solis is a good bet. It’s a proven, sturdy design, and the fact that it will accommodate a variety a lights and optics, as well as threaded barrels, makes it one of the more versatile options on the market.

Key features include:

  • ALS secures firearm once holstered: simple straight-up draw once the release is deactivated
  • Compatible with most Red Dot Sights
  • Compact Light Compatible
  • Two-piece reinforced holster body for increased strength
  • MSRP: $82.50 – $87.50

Check it out on Safariland.

  1. I’ve used Safariland all my adult life. The first of their holsters I bought was a tunnel/loop with a thumb break for a 3 1/2″ S&W model 27. I was 19 or 20 at the time. The revolver is long gone, but I still have the holster. My duty rig was Safariland, but I tended to carry custom leather when I worked plain clothes, or off duty. That said, I’m sure this is a quality product, but I jumped on the Blade Tech train early and that’s where I’ll stay.

  2. Mebbe. I owned a Safariland OWB retention a few years ago. #1 worst holster of all that I’ve had over my lifetime. I had to disassemble and modify/repair the retention linkage to get it to work properly, and even then the balance of the overall unit when filled with a gun was off. Plus, the material wasn’t truly mar-free, and started to affect my gun’s finish at the end of the first four-day training course in which I used it. It’s in my “used gear” box in storage, and probably should have been tossed into the trash. I’ll never buy a Safariland product again.

  3. I like my Safariland holsters for my Glocks. But in the compact area they are kinda lacking by choosing to go with Glock models and ignoring the rest or most of the rest when they introduce new holsters.

  4. How is this any different from their existing 7377 7TS ALS? It’s the same holster and features they’ve had for 10 years.

  5. I’m getting to be so old that I can remember back when 90 bucks bought you a nicely made lined horsehide fitted holster, and America didn’t suck.

    • unicorn, the prices have gone up and delivery time is long, but “endeavor to persevere.” I ordered a rig from Milt Sparks not long ago. Ten months delivery time. It’s the world we live in.

  6. I’ve got some leather OWB holsters. I like leather for OWB. One I got a few months ago is a level II > Falco C142 Cheetah “LVL 2 Retention Pancake Premium Leather OWB Holster with MLC Security Lock Technology” > https://www.falcoholsters.com/lvl-2-retention-pancake-leather-owb-holster-with-security-lock-c142?variant=2319

Its turning out to be a really nice holster for OWB. I got mine for a deep discount called free. But I probably would have bought it at the regular price as I was looking for a decent OWB level II holster pancake with an active locking manual release similar to the Safariland ALS for the Sig P365 xMacro Tacops I had but what I was finding was in kydex and SafariLand didn’t have anything I wanted and a few other places were way over priced and I am partial to leather for an OWB holster.

  7. I’ve got 80lb braided fishing string. Works great for dragging my heart around.
When times get tough boiling plastic doesn’t do much in the way of calories, a good leather boot will always fill the stomach.
    Plastic holsteins for plastic gunms.

    • You wouldn’t even want to see what an empty one sitting on a black leather seat inside of my jeep sitting in the sun turned into…at least the 1911 doesn’t fall out on it’s own anymore. (alien gear)
