So a SHOT Show attendee sidles up to the new 28-gauge Taurus Raging Judge, shakes his head and says “What on Earth is this thing for?” I dunno, what’s a metaphor? In this case, the Raging Judge is a metaphor for man’s frustrated attempts to establish an orderly, structured society within a world of animal instincts and chaotic emotions. Leading to rage and revenge baby! A good old-fashioned Bruce Willis-style bad guy ass whooping. In the rush to blow holes through the wicked with large caliber anythings, we should remember the old aphorism: vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord. But you might want to pack a 28-gauge handgun in case I’m at lunch or something.
I am sure the whole “12 guage” Raging Judge comment was a joke. But the Taurus guy had a pretty serious response…
And God said, “Let there be a 28 gauge handgun,” and there was a 28 gauge handgun. God saw that the 28 gauge handgun was good, God called the 28 gauge handgun the “Raging Judge,” because the .410 handgun, aka “Judge” that he had previously created wasn’t crazy enough.
How about “Devil-may-care Judge”… 18 gauge = 666 caliber. Put a 6.66 inch barrel on it and a 666 grain slug from 18 gauge brass…
A metaphor? I think this thing probably needs a metafive…
Seriously, forget Bruce Willis. What Taurus needs to do is to get to the management for the estate of Charles Bronson. Resurrect his image/video, maybe from the climactic scene in Death Wish, and put one of these in his hands. Bronson will resonate with the target audience, who’s old enough to remember his films. And I think Bronson’s acting style is well-suited to the Taurus…
Excellent ideas! I plan to buy 2 of these when they come out. I love it!
Can a Taurus rep give a single straightforward answer to a press question? Can his employer single-handedly revive the fading fortunes of the 28-gauge shotgun shell? Will this behemoth break your wrist? Will it be able to keep a load of buckshot in a 12″ circle at a range of ten feet? Stay tuned…
Does anyone make an IWB holster for that?
He sure was gentle with that thing when you asked him to cycle the action. And he never did demonstrate DA.
12 gauge version: The Chief Justice?
How did Taurus do an endrun around the “rifled bore over .50 cal. is a destructive device” and “smoothbore handgun requires a $200 tax stamp?” Or did they?
Also is it rifled, smoothbore , choke bored, choke tubed, and so on?
Good questions. We’ll know if and when this gun ever sees the light of day and isn’t just a publicity stunt.
I understand it didn’t make it past day 2 of the show and was pulled. I think someone in Taurus legal dept. didn’t do his homework.
MY 12GA SBE SHOOTS AROUND A .715 SLUG THROUGH A RIFLED BORE AND YES IT IS VERY DESTRUCTIVE. SO WHAT’S ILLEGAL ABOUT A RIFLED SLUG BARREL?
Hmm, it can be used for “self-defense, hunting, fishing.” Interesting, and it’s chambered in a “rare cartridge” too. Who comes up with this stuff? At 67 oz., does it come with wheels? Last time I checked, 28 ga. factory fodder was pretty much limited to bird shot for upland game and skeet loads. Who makes slugs & buckshot loads for the 28 ga.? That is the only way this will be useful. But I bet a 3/4 oz. charge of #6 or 7.5 shot would work dandy on rising brown trout in the Battenkill when a hatch of Olive Duns are on.
Can you imagine fifty of these blasting away over Junction Pool?
What a silly looking gun. It can’t even hold a candle to the S&W 500, it just looks cheap.
Guys, guys. It’s not intended as a totally practical firearm. It’s a fashion statement, too. This revolver says more about your unique personal style than any Second Amendment T-shirt ever could. Now, the statement could be read as, “I am an imbecile, perhaps even a lunatic,” but that’s parsing. Style is not to be taken so gosh-darned seriously. Have some fun with it! Fashion is kicky and whimsical!
You fashion-forward types will want two of these. You can wear them to the next open-carry Tea Party rally. How about a pearl-handled pair carried butt-forward in a low-slung crossdraw waist holster? Wow! All the other boys will be sooo jealous! Additional touches could include a chrome-plated helmet — like another Great American, Gen. George S. Patton. Or how about a matching pair of bandoliers to hold the entire remaining North American inventory of 28 ga ammo? Just take care not to over-accessorize.
Never underestimate the creativity of Brazilians ! Brazil is now an industrial power and will continue to grow into the future. Viva Brazil !
For you larger gentlemen, wearing the 28-gauge Taurus revolver will also have a slimming effect.
What on Earth is this thing for?
Hollywood, son… Hollywood.
I think that it will be a n Excellent home defense and self defense round. I cant wait to get one !
Might want to consider a bore size over .5 is a destructive device – might add a tad to the price – makes me wonder if it is for real.
I think the .28 gauge Taurus Raging Judge would make a great ” BOAT ANCHOR “
Hopefully if they make it, they secure a manufacturing deal with an ammunition company to make self defense rounds for it specifically. Personnally I reload shotshell ammo and think it would be interesting to load something for personal defense. I would think one could make up a load that was just the right amount of knockdown power with an appropriate amount of kick.
Why have a swing out cylinder? If Taurus is making a fashion statement, design the 28 gauge revolver as a breaktop like NAA did with their mini-revolver. That way it’s ambidextrous and faster to reload.
I want one, not sure why. Maybe to have something none of my friends have! If it goes over like the 410 I’m sure the ammo companies will respond.
IT FOR SALE ALREADY ON 2011 TAURUS WEBSITE AND CATOLOG, ITS A BAD BITCH 28GA./55.CAL NOT SURE ABOUT IT BEING UP TO ANY TASK A FIREARM CAN DO? GO GET IT SHOOT IT AND THEN HAVE AN OPNION ,IT IS JUST AS SWEET AS SHE LOOKS AND JUST AS MEAN TOO.
I love pistol hunting squirle and rabit. .22 shoots to far ( dangerous) .410 lacking power Iam interested in the new 28 gauge. would like a 6 inch barrel something like a full choke & blued.
