Shots Fired at Albany Synagogue, Shooter’s Motive Remains an Impenetrable Mystery

97

Think of how mentally muddled you need to be to write the tweet above. And it’s not just the $25,000 salaried “journalist” who runs the syracuse.com Twitter account. He or she is just parroting an Associated Press report about a man who opened fire with a shotgun outside a synagogue in Albany last night.

Here’s how the AP lead its report . . .

A man fired a shotgun twice outside a Jewish temple in upstate New York, hours before the start of Hanukkah on Thursday, then said “Free Palestine” as he was taken into custody, police said. No one was injured.

And here’s the AP’s caption under the photo above . . .

A menorah stands outside the entrance to Temple Israel, Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, in Albany, N.Y. A 28-year-old suspect was in police custody for allegedly firing two rounds from a shotgun outside the Jewish temple on Friday, just hours before the start of Hanukkah. Officials said no one was injured and police they did not know the man’s motive.(AP Photo/Maysoon Khan)

Let’s not limit this just to the media, though. The finest Feds are on the case as well . . .

The FBI said in a statement that it was investigating the incident along with local, state and federal agencies.

“Our office immediately deployed multiple resources and will continue to work in concert with our law enforcement partners, to include the United States Attorney’s Office, to work through the facts and determine any potential motives,” the FBI said.

If you’re too obtuse to determine the motivation of Mufid Fawaz Alkhader as he opened fire, then reportedly shouted “Free Palestine,” you probably shouldn’t be an “official” in charge of anything more vital to public safety than garbage collection or street sweeping.

If you’re in the media, well, at this point you’ve already completely devalued the institution of journalism so it’s probably not possible to do any more damage at this point, so…what the hell. Carry on.

        • “Wolverine?”

You know, those meddling kids that just refuse to ‘get with the program’ of the Glorious Future that awaits the followers of ‘socialism’, and need to be shot dead on sight wherever they are found… 🙁

    • Replace Pro Hamas University demonstrators with the Sturmabteilung SA (Brown shirts) and you get the Nazi Party. As well as the Aryan Nation and the KKK. Same ideology…Same Intent…Same tactics.

      • These days you can’t just say “Nazi” and assume people will take that as a reference to very bad people. You need to be specific:
        Germany had the bad Nazis.
        Ukraine has the good Nazis.

        </tongue-in-cheek>

  1. ‘Events in the Middle East’ led man to fire shots near synagogue

Mufid Fawaz Alkhader, a U.S. citizen born in Iraq, allegedly shouted “free Palestine” when police detained him after he fired a shotgun outside Albany synagogue

A 28-year-old man accused of firing two rounds from a shotgun into the air outside Temple Israel on Thursday afternoon has been charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person because he allegedly admitted to using marijuana regularly when he was being interviewed by the members of a federal task force following his arrest.https://www.timesunion.com/news/article/mufid-fawaz-alkhader-heads-court-temple-israel-18541327.php

I did not see that coming.

    • Funny he was reported as a white gun owner last night and the news changed the topics really quickly when the police mentioned the free Palestine stuff this morning. Oh and 2nd circuit finally gave some decisions but looks like I may be able to carry in stores again and social media review is off limits. We will see what they actually said in a bit as more info comes up. Going to be a festive holiday season up here if only because things are getting moving.

      • They constantly make those “mistakes” in reporting. Oddly enough, those “mistakes” overwhelmingly go in one political direction. Hmm…

      • Semites are Caucasian. Hebrews and Arabs are both Semites. Therefore they’re “white” (except when they want minority clout).

        • Odd they don’t differentiate Arab/Persian/North African in crime/terrorism stats when they present white terrorist numbers.

        • Dude various groups constantly push Japan to take in migrants to help them with population growth. We will see if it goes anywhere.

        • That should be interesting to see if they ever cave to that. That’s how they’re pushing it here as well. They say we have to take in the world’s poor because we aren’t having enough babies. Also, “let’s make blood sacrifices of babies so we can have more money!”

Here’s a crazy idea: how about we incentivize Americans to have more babies? Nah, that’s nuts! Let’s just spend $450 billion a year to care for undocumented Democrats. That’s a much better plan for a prosperous nation.

        • Dude – you missed out on the entire Great Society welfare scam of the last 50yrs? Broke the black family, caused mass illegitimate baby production AND massive abortion mill.

        • Steve you may be correct in your assessment of him but as one who has entered demographic data for various purposes at state and federal level he is absolutely correct in how middle easterners and north africans are counted in various stats.

        • Semites are people who speak Semitic languages. It has less to do with actual race than you think. Han Chinese, Inuit Japanese, Nordic, Caucasian, etc are physical races. This is more like calling someone Latin.

  2. As expected. The crime….is unsolvable!

We will never truly know what really went on that day even though he took the advice of joe “two-blasts” biden.

    • Fired into the air is a euphemism for poor aim. Every shot is firing into the air. Although he clearly had no reasons or motives whatsoever, I doubt that he would have intentionally wasted his two shots on the birds.

  3. Fired 2 shots in the air from a shotgun? Sounds like Joe Biden’s recommended home defense tactic.

  4. But but they “deployed multiple resources”. So said the fbi guy. Any time they say that you know they’re really doin something

  5. They’re still trying to peddle the lie that being anti-Zionist isn’t being anti-Jewish. Yeah sure, that’s why there are suddenly attacks against Jews across the entire world. University presidents say it’s okay to call for genocide against Jews because they’re suddenly free speech absolutists. That is, unless students want to host a run-of-the-mill conservative speaker. Then the university is ready to throw up every available roadblock to the event.

    • LOL yeah I remember when they were almost supporting violence against vax mandate protestors let alone pushing for censoring that topic when it was merely critical on the various holes in logic and research behind “The Science”

    • That isn’t a lie it’s a fact. And nothing boomers or hasbarats say will change that fact. One can be entirely fine with the religion without being fine with Zionists. In fact, some of the biggest anti Zionists in the world are… they themselves Jewish. By your logic one couldn’t be anti nassi without being anti German, couldn’t be anti Islamics extremist terrorist without being anti Islamic, or that you automatically and by default support Timothy McVey because he was patriotic and you are also patriotic. You can’t automatically ascribe people to a fallacy of all or nothing in their beliefs just because you don’t like them.
But indeed to hell with the universities and their useless politicized administration. Everyone should be able to say whatever they want at the university. It should be a free market of ideas where the ideas are allowed to be exchanged and compete against each other on logic and merit.

      • So why are jews outside of Israel being fucked with again? You are correct with antizionism is not necessarily antijew but the problem with reality is theory and practice/observed behavior don’t always match up to the point where an assertion that is logical and true is moot by what actually happens.

        • “…the problem with reality is theory and practice/observed behavior don’t always match up…”

It’s nothing more than a way to launder antisemitism.

        • Trying to be nice polite and objective in showing how his statement is off and making a huge assumption of good faith on his end. You are overwhelmingly likely correct but just in case.

        • Oh I know how you meant it. It’s weird how they’re the only ethnic group in the world that isn’t really welcome anywhere else, so let’s not let them have their own country. (Last sentence is rhetorical, and not directed at you.)

      • “By your logic one couldn’t be anti nassi without being anti German…”

That’s a childish argument that doesn’t make any sense. Were the incinerated Jews not German as well?

“In fact, some of the biggest anti Zionists in the world are… they themselves Jewish.”

They’re typical self-hating left wingers. That you Chris Wray? Wray thinks the FBI gets a pass on targeting Catholics because some of those agents are Catholics. Do you also believe that it’s impossible for a white person to push anti-whiteism? Have you looked around lately?

Why aren’t Jews allowed to have a country? Israel has a population that’s 20% Arab, by the way. Do you also believe that Americans aren’t allowed to have a country, so they must be overrun by the world’s poor?

        • “Why aren’t Jews allowed to have a country?“

The problem is they took much of that ‘country’ from other people at gunpoint in 1946.

Check your world map, there was no ‘Israel’ until after WW2.

“Half of West Bank Land Seized by Israel Exclusively for Settler Use, Report Says
Expropriated land that must legally be used to serve both Israeli settlers and Palestinians now holds settlements and roads for Jews only
          הגר שיזף
          Hagar Shezaf

          https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2023-06-15/ty-article/.highlight/half-the-west-bank-land-seized-by-israel-used-only-by-settlers-report-says/00000188-b932-d1d6-a7b9-fbf73a8a0000

        • “The problem is they took much of that ‘country’ from other people at gunpoint in 1946.”

Not quite, but we have a lot of rearranging of the world to do if we’re going to run that clock back. I assume we also include taking land by spear point and by club as well. Which tribe gets your land?

        • Dude. miner excused himself from being a white colonizer by saying that he has the only piece of ground in the US that wasn’t claimed by any tribes.

He actually said that shit and then referenced some uncle tom tom website that backed him up.

        • “The problem is they took much of that ‘country’ from other people at gunpoint in 1946.”

Pretty hard to take a country from someone who doesn’t have a country (Palestinians) when Israel wasn’t yet a country.

Could you point out the nation of Palestine on a map before 1947?

Tell you what, Liar, don’t bother — I’ll be goddamned if I’m going to take history lessons from an historical illiterate.

        • “They’re typical self-hating left wingers.”

That is naive, narrow minded, and shallow minded. Judaism is more complex than you imply, and individual Jews can be quite complex. The Jews who oppose Zionism are still awaiting the Messiah, who they presume will return the Jews to Israel. To them, only impious Jews who have lost faith in the Messiah can support today’s Israeli government. A lot of those people are so conservative, and so orthodox, as to make you look like Leon Trotsky’s kid brother.

        • Paul
I was replying to a comment about worldwide sentiment. In the US, there are far more nonreligious, progressive Jews than there are Haredim. Those typically progressive Jews have been getting a big wake-up call post Oct. 7. We’ll see if that changes any of their political orientations. I’ve heard that the attack has united Jews in Israel.

      • Nope:
Zionism IS the religion. You know absolutely zero about Judaism.
Those who were born Jewish and are not Zionists are also not Jews. They reject that part of themselves.

        • “Nope:
          Zionism IS the religion”

Nope, Zionism is not a religion.

“Real believers in Judaism mourn the crimes being done to Palestinians by the state of Israel, as these violations are clearly barred by their faith, said a spokesman for an anti-Zionist group.

“In our religion, killing and stealing are clearly forbidden. (Israel), on the other hand, establishes its state by taking it from the Arabs. That’s why we are crying with the Palestinians,” said Yisroel Dovid Weiss, a rabbi and spokesman for Neturei Karta, a group founded in Jerusalem.

In an interview with Anadolu, Weiss discussed the principles of Zionism, the founding ideology of the state of Israel, as well as the use of violence against Palestinians and the appropriation of land.

Weiss said there are many people who confuse Judaism and Zionism and are confused about this.

“Zionism is the ideology of the state of Israel, which tries to present itself as the Jewish state. They claim that they represent Jewish religion, they claim that they are speaking in the name of God.

They claim that they are the voice around the world of Jewish people that have an attachment with God or the Torah. That’s not true,” said Weiss, referring to the first five books of the Jewish and Christian scriptures.“

          https://www.aa.com.tr/en/middle-east/we-are-crying-with-palestinians-jewish-anti-zionist-group/3038245

        • “In our religion, killing and stealing are clearly forbidden”

You use opposing views on the same page to try and prove your points. You should track down Yisroel Dovid Weiss and preach the Torah to him since you understand it better than he does. It’s funny how only atheists can understand Scripture. Then, they use different interpretations depending on the circumstance. Hmm…

        • Dude, trying to learn history from Liar is like asking a virgin for advice on how to please a woman in bed.

    • Can someone please explain how committing violence against those who follow the Jewish faith is going to affect the actions of the Israeli government?

Logic and critical thinking are not strong points of Palestinian and Hamas supporters.

  6. The imbecile LEOs and other officials would not be so sanguine if this had been a mosque that was being attacked. They might have responded more forcefully if the terrorist had been armed with a scary looking AR-15 rather than a shotgun. Thanks to Buggs Bunny and Daffy Duck surviving assaults by that psychopathic Elmer Fudd, most people, including some of the Tacticool Fools who hang out on TTAG, don’t understand that a shotgun is a deadly weapon.

As Washington County Oregon Sheriff’s Deputy Braun can attest, even #9 birdshot can inflict devastating injuries, even from a range of about 20 yards. Although Deputy Braun was in full tactical gear, he was hospitalized for a month, including a week in intensive care. It is reported that many of the pellets that entered his jugular vein remain lodged in his lungs. Buckshot probably would have been lethal.

  7. So a guy goes to Temple Israel and outside fires two shots from a shotgun and says “Free Palestine” as he was taken into custody….

A mystery! By golly, a mystery.

Maybe the FBI should get Mulder and Scully on the case, imaginary characters to solve an imaginary mystery but at least they actually earned their money playing FBI.

    Mystery my butt.

  8. If you’re too obtuse to determine the motivation of Mufid Fawaz Alkhader as he opened fire, then reportedly shouted ‘Free Palestine,’ you probably shouldn’t be an ‘official’ in charge of anything more vital to public safety than garbage collection or street sweeping.

I have to chime in: someone who is that obtuse is not even trustworthy enough for garbage collection.

    • You’re buying the lie that they’re different, like Hamas was some weird takeover of the majority. The majority of Palestinians agree with Hamas. Just look at the ones in the West. They’re down with the “freedom fighting” program.

  9. Notice that they charged him with something that couldn’t have “hate crime” attached? Still, if he really did just use the Brandon method of self-defense, I have to think LE is simply baffled by the stupidity and wondering what he hoped to accomplish, not whether or not the act was anti-Semitic.

I hate defending LE these days but, in this case, the “mystery” is what Obama’s quasi-son thought would happen after he committed the act.

  10. If the media isn’t providing cover for antifa they’re providing cover for hamas, etc. Business as usual.

    • “providing cover for antifa“

Wouldn’t that be the new Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson, who is intentionally blurring the faces of the January 6 rioters that you folks claim were all antifa agitators…

Aren’t you folks really upset with Mike Johnson’s intentional obstruction of justice?

      • You still bleating about that fedsurrection? Don’t you have to find a way to wedge the Nazis into the Balfour Declaration?

        • Hey miner, did you know the Balfour Declaration promised the Arabs 48% of the land with only 30% of the population. While the Jews agreed, the Arabs “declined” and started hostilities.

They lost. And lost again, and again, and again.

How many wish they could turn back the clock and accept the deal?

        • Balfour declaration?

You mean when the Brits gave the Middle East to the Rothschild family?

“The declaration was contained in a letter dated 2 November 1917 from the United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Lord Rothschild, a leader of the British Jewish community, for transmission to the Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Ireland“

“Lionel Walter Rothschild, 2nd Baron Rothschild, Baron de Rothschild,[1] FRS[2][3] (8 February 1868 – 27 August 1937) was a British banker, politician, zoologist and soldier, who was a member of the Rothschild family. As a Zionist leader, he was presented with the Balfour Declaration, which pledged British support for a Jewish national home in Palestine“

Wow, I never figured you guys for fellow travelers with the Rothschild family.

        • Not going to do that tiny bit of digging for the Haavara Agreement? Damn new Miner you are lazy as fuck compared to two years ago which punk replacement are you?

        • Haavara doesn’t in anyway authorize taking land from the people living in Palestine.

It is a good example of Zionist Jews cutting a cash deal with the Nazis.

  11. It’s not just the jews who have learned nothing from the holocaust. There are so many in government and in the justice system. Who have learned nothing from the holocaust.

Thank God for the wise white Christian founding fathers. Who gave us a denaliated list of a Bill of Rights.
Putting it down on paper makes it’s impossible to deny you your rights.

Yes, they can try to take them from you. And they have on the west coast. But not in the rest of the country.
And it just drives them crazy that they can’t simply wave a magic wand. And make all our rights go away.

I can’t say anything to anyone to change their minds. When they are completely lying to themselves, and in denial about the reality of the situation.

The liberal jews don’t know what they’re talking about. They are calmly waiting their 30 days. To get a firearm just like they calmly waited in line to walk into a gas chamber.

  12. On an unrelated note, it rained last night. Investigators are still trying to determine why the ground is wet…

  13. I see nothing about this that cant be laid at the feet of Democrats. Although there are RINOs, its all about leftist lunacy.

    • Workplace violence and h-o-m-o-phobia?…And the Waukesha Christmas parade attack was really a case of making a wrong turn. He swerved to hit over 50 people. Oops. CNN and Miner49er agree that it was an accident.

  14. There already is a Palestinian State. It is called Jordan. The land beyond the Jordan river was originally separated from the Palestinian mandate and called Transjordan. All of the Palestinians on the West Bank should be deported to Jordan where they came from and all of the Palestinians in Gaza should be deported to Egypt which is where they came from.

    • “should be deported to Egypt which is where they came from“

Wouldn’t that be the Hebrews, who came to the land of Canaan to kill everyone on the instructions of their God.

      • The various tribes that were in the land of Canon were squatters who’d moved in while the rightful owners were in bondage to the Egyptians.

        • The Arab SOP for thousands of years. Then do NOTHING with the land to make it productive. Just squat on it. Tribalism/failure.

        • “The various tribes that were in the land of Canon were squatters who’d moved in“

You need to study your Bible, the Canaanites were just another branch of the family who had been on the land since the days of Noah.

“Canaan (Hebrew: כְּנַעַן – Kənáʿan, in pausa כְּנָעַן‎ – Kənā́ʿan), according to the Book of Genesis in the Hebrew Bible, was a son of Ham and grandson of Noah, as well as the father of the Canaanites”

Yep, the Israelites were slaying their own brothers and stealing their land.

The Israelites never owned the land of Canaan, they came as an invading army and killed men, women and children.

  15. Leftist motives are always unclear, unknown, lacking context or in the rare chance the motive is just too damn obvious such as the tranifesto shooters case it is ignored until forgotten or justified by fanciful tales of the oppression Olympics.

  16. First of all, the conflict in the ME is about Arab racism and Islamic bigotry to the mostly non Arab non Muslim ‘other’ in their midst. Especially since the Nov 1913 hate poem by an Islamic Sheikh in the newspaper Falastin (Filastin, which caused Ottoman authorities to ban it).

I copy here what someone posted a month ago:

    David Shor @DYShor Nov 9, 2023:
I’ve seen HUNDREDS of marches by pro-Hamas folks in front of synagogues, Jewish homes, schools and institutions, in all big cities.

I’ve yet to see a SINGLE pro-Israel march in front of a single mosque or Muslim institution. NOT ONE.

Tell me again who’s facing hate.

    Who?

    • And left wingers choose sides based on the Marxist view of power and oppression. If you’re the one with more power, then you must be an oppressor. The group with less power (the oppressed) can essentially do no wrong. Therefore the murder and rape (which sometimes literally occurred simultaneously on Oct. 7, according to eye-witness accounts) is excusable because they’re freedom fighters. It’s that view that led to braid dead left wingers declaring that black people are incapable of racism because they aren’t the ones with power (in the US). I remember watching a black woman say that on CNN while Obama was the president. It was shocking to see that people actually think that way.

  17. And here miner49er is trying to excuse the actions of his antisemitic brothers. State of Israel is wrong so it’s okay to terrorize jews worldwide or some such nonsense.

  18. I from different countries.
Amerikan Satans President say , “Just Fire Two Blast.”
    Now I in Amerikan prison.
    Satans president lie to me

  19. Just because you have “Special Agent” in your title and have an advanced degree does not mean or confer any level of intelligence.

  20. What does motive got to do with it?

When a person commits a crime, a crime is committed. How does intention, indeed location matter? Unless being at a particular location is a crime itself.

Seems “motive” has become an element of the level of crime only in the last 15yrs, or so; as in “hate crime”.

    • “Seems “motive” has become an element of the level of crime only in the last 15yrs“

Not hardly, motive is an essential element, it must be proven by the state in order to achieve a conviction, it’s been that way for hundreds of years

      • Not hardly is a hardy colloquialism that has been in English a long time and is likely to stay, but it might be considered out of place in serious writing. Because hardly means barely or almost not, adding the modifier not creates a double negative. Taken literally, not hardly would mean definitely or very. In practice, though, not hardly means the same as hardly.
        https://grammarist.com/usage/not-hardly/

Isn’t that right, Sgt. “Jack” Friday?

        • Of course, the Content of my post is correct but you don’t address that at all.

Instead, you go off on some sort of grammar-Nazi rant.

          Lame.

So just do what is a “hardy colloquialism“?

In other news, another Republican activist found guilty of election fraud:

“Another Republican convicted of voter fraud at Florida GOP stronghold
A surprising number of Republicans from The Villages have been convicted of trying to cheat in the 2020 elections. The list grew longer this week.

          “Lame.”

It beats the actual-Nazi rants that you’ve been posting, Liar, but I didn’t write it. That’s why there’s a fucking link right next to the fucking quote. Can’t you fucking read?

“So just do what is a “hardy colloquialism“?

Read the fucking link. And “So just do what” doesn’t make any fucking sense, Sgt. “Jack” Friday.

      • “Not hardly, motive is an essential element, it must be proven by the state in order to achieve a conviction”

That isn’t true. You have to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. That can be done without proving motive.

  21. All the complaints about Israel being stolen land. So, exactly how far do we turn back the clock? And exactly which piece of real estate is not currently occupied by the original inhabitants? Should we dig up the Neanderthals and give them back most of Europe? Should we hand Spain back to the Moors?
The current squabble goes back to around 1870 under the Ottomans when European and North African Jews started filtering back to what was mostly empty lands and rebuilding derelict irrigation systems and reclaiming abandoned farmlands. The Turks noticed and started encouraging Arabs from Egypt and Syria to settle in the Levant after Jewish settlers made it prosperous again.
The Hebrews/Jews and everybody else in the region have been fighting over that area for at least 3000 years. What makes anyone think this will end any time soon.

    • The issue is solved by simply reading Deuteronomy 20 (especially verses 16-20 which apply here in Gaza) and then accepting and following God’s commandment to his Chosen People on the Chosen Land he promised them as part of His Covenant.

      • “and then accepting and following God’s commandment to his Chosen People on the Chosen Land he promised them as part of His Covenant”

There it is, archaic authorization from their self invented sky daddy, makes it all good…

Religion has no place in the governance of the United States, and our national decisions aren’t based upon thirdhand fables from Bronze Age magicians.

        • “Religion has no place in the governance of the United States …”

But he wasn’t speaking about the governance of the United States.

OldManinAL had some very good questions; discussing your answers to those questions would be an opportunity to explore the vast difference in opinion of those who hold opposing views.

You, Liar, will waste that opportunity. You’re not interested in an honest and open analysis or an exchange of ideas. You are all about insulting the beliefs of others, presenting a slanted take on any subject on which you comment (which rarely involves the main topic of the forum — guns), and intentionally misquoting and misrepresenting the views of others with which you disagree.

    • Nobody arguing for indigenous ownership* actually wants the land. What they want is what was built on the land by the “colonizers.”
