SIG SAUER has for a long time been engraving small batches of their handguns to order. They offer a program in which outside organizations, such as law enforcement groups or military units, can design an engraving pattern to be put on a handgun to commemorate…well just about anything. But SIG doesn’t do it for everyone — just the organizations whose principles they agree with (sorry, Moms Demand Action, no commemorative P226 pistols for you!). At the NRA Annual Meeting this year SIG unveiled their NRA commemorative P227, emblazoned with the NRA logo. They say some of the sale price will be donated straight to the NRA itself. You in?

  1. Nah. Until the NRA stops advocating banning violent video games they are just as bad as moms demand.

(And a lot of their card holders are anti choice, anti gay assholes.)

      • Can’t say I care. Anyone who hasn’t realized that gay people getting married does not mean the terrorists win, or the fact that abortion will never again be illegal are holding back gun rights, which is an actually important issue.

        • Look, Im with you in that the members of the NRA being anti-choice, anti-gay is not good, nor is it parallel to my own views. But the NRA is about gun rights, and should only be about gun rights. They dont and shouldnt comment on any other political issues. I give them my membership money to protect my gun rights and only my gun rights.

        • Laat time I checked, being pro gay marriage and pro abortion makes you exactly 0% bigoted towards anybody. Being AGAINST gay marriage and abortion makes you bigoted towards those who want either.

        • Guess what, Nick? There are a lot of people out in society who AREN’T NRA members who feel the same way. Since sexual preference and abortion rights aren’t part of NRA-ILA’s agenda, what does it matter to you, as long as they promote the issue that IS their charter, which is defending gun rights?

Do you make all your other buying decisions the same way? Don’t buy Chevron gas because a bigot might also buy it?

        • @defens
They may not in their policy advocate it, but their spokespeople do. Ted Nugent is the face of the NRA, and that guy is nuts.

        • Way to pull a move straight out of the grabbers play book. If you don’t agree with the other side and are convinced that you are right then it is ok to deamonize them and attack with personal insults because you are clearly right. When the chips are down and it is time to vote I bet you do more damage to the 2A than us “bigots.” Go troll somewhere else.

      • “Last time I checked, being pro gay marriage and pro abortion makes you exactly 0% bigoted towards anybody. ”

Some might think that’s bigoted against the unborn. Just sayin’

Also, on the whole gay marriage thing (where I am personally somewhere between agnostic and apathetic), how is it hoplessly bigoted to have the same position that the President had a mere 5 years ago?

        • Agreed on abortion and just to be clear with people I have no affinity with any religion. Just the fact that it is a human in the earliest stages of development. Abortion is NOT just a women’s rights issue like the left has deceptively portrayed it as.

As for gays, I love gays, gay sex and public affection does not disgust me, however gay marriage I am against, but only because I am against all state sponsored marriages (straight, gay, inter-species…lol). I just don’t think the government should have anything to do with marriage. Though it might be too late to untangle that mess, so for now I do support gay marriage.

As for the NRA and video games. I completely disagree with Nick because the NRA is nothing like MDA because the NRA is not throwing money and effort into banning video games.

    • Read Lt. Col. Dave Grossman’s book ‘On Combat’
There’s a rather good and persuasive argument with regards to ‘violent’ video games and the programming of children to be desensitized to shooting and killing.

      • Sorry, that’s simply not true. Of the MILLIONS of video game players in the country, only a few kill people. Kinda like gun owners. Of course, being as narrow minded as the Brady Campaign, “If it doesn’t affect me, lets ban it!” idea is pretty common when it comes to things like this.

        • Actually it is Nick. But as you say the video games do not make killers. They DO desensitize the idea of killing. There is a difference, a big one. It’s not that we are more violent, more like that we are less surprised by it. It is part of the reason old horror or action movies seem quiet cheesy by modern standards, technology advancement plays a large part to, but it is the physical acts of depicted violence that no longer surprise us. It’s not really good or bad, it just is.

        • @Keith

“They DO desensitize the idea of killing”

No, no they do not. Even little children are well aware of the difference between a game and reality. I’m going to take a shot in the dark and guess that you’re mid-40’s or older?

      • It’s not even close to persuasive to anyone who has seen the (non-anecdotal) science on the matter. It has no evidence and Grossman is WAY out of his element… and talking out his rear.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve read it and the other one, but the book simply goes off the rails when Grossman stops talking about what happens to soldiers- his wheelhouse- and starts talking about things he has no clue about. If he were writing in 1960 he’d be talking about how comic books are doing the same thing.

    • You forgot promoting gun control loving presidential candidates too. The lies about Romney’s record cost the NRA my membership fees and I highly doubt they’ll ever earn them back.

    • So those that believe in American? American Exceptionalism? The nation our founding fathers created and passed down to us to preserve for our children? Yep

And in the new pro-Shannon TTAG spirit of Kumbaya – Bite me

    • I’m a NRA member. I am 19 years old. Studying mechanical engineering. I am pro gay marriage, and believe that abortion should be legal during the early periods of pregnancy.

I don’t shun the NRA because their constituents disagree with some of my beliefs. I support them because they do more for my 2A rights than any other group out there (I’m also a GOA member, shuddup).

You can only change the group from the inside. Want NRA members to be more accepting of gays? Well then join the NRA. Be the change you want to see.

  2. I’d rather donate the difference and get one with only the manufacturer’s marks. That way I’m helping the cause while not shilling for anyone.

  3. Make it match-grade internals like the Navy Seals model and maybe I’d be down for paying more.

  4. They have time for this utter nonsense but apparently no time to actually manufacture the SAS Carry version which is what the people want, and what the people aren’t seeing on the shelves at their LGSs. Who the eff wants an NRA commemorative anything? I fart in their general direction, both Sig and the NRA.

  5. these guns are expensive enough as it is without adding money onto it so that NRA gets some. I’d rather just pay my NRA dues and buy a standard blued model.

  6. I’m an NRA Benefactor Member, and I’ve never considered myself more kosher than the rabbi. I might be an ideal candidate for this gun.

  7. You know, for some reason I haven’t got into Sig’s yet. Not sure why. I have XDMs, Glocks, M&P’s, FN’s, HK’s, CZ’s and shot almost everything else – but Sig. Wonder why that is. Heard lots of good things (and then some minorly bad things recently). Maybe it’s the cost? Maybe it just never struck me as something different or jumped out at me as ‘gotta have’. Really not sure… This one does look pretty cool though, but got too many 45’s already… and not sure anything is going to top the FNX 45 Tactical anyway

    • Think about Sig Sauer like this. The Navy SEAL’s can have any sidearm they want…they only have to ask for it, and it’s done, no questions asked. They aren’t carrying any of the guns you’ve just named. It seems to me, that there must be a very important reason why they chose the Sig. Food for thought.

        • The 45 isn’t standard issue in a individual operators kit. Only a few or issued to a platoon for suppressed work. It was to replace the boat anchor MK23. The 226 is still standard sidearm, with a few 229s or 239s lying around.

      • Yeah, I can dig that. Certainly carries some weight. Maybe I’ll get the Sig itch and actively seek one out.. My LGS’s don’t really stock a lot of Sig… Not sure why either. Who knows, maybe once I shoot one and feel the trigger, etc – I’ll get amped. Think I’ll ask around at the range, but honestly can’t think of anyone who runs Sig there either really. Think I gotta shoot one now and at least see what I’m missing… or not missing.

      • The Seals standard equipment is part of the same military procurement machine that created the M9. Sorry but there’s nothing magical about their guns except (a) the people behind them and (b) the fact that they have a lot more individual ability to deviate from the issued equipment than most units.

If you think Sig must be better because the seals have it I have like 10 different brands of watches to sell you, all of which are “Used by the Navy Seals!”

  8. Yawn. Sigs are too expensive as is to have A). extra cost associated with the NRA markings. What, you didnt think THEY were going to take the cost of the donation out of their profit did you? B). branded markings on the slide besides the manufacturer. Seriously, I want “Sig Sauer” and maybe a little anchor on my Sig if Im paying 1K plus for it.

    • I prefer the two-tone equinox enhanced elite dark tac-ops SAS compact carry super match scorpion extreme gen. 2. But none of that DAK nonsense, let’s be reasonable.

    • I’m waiting for one with “Big Bang Theory” and an atom logo engraved on it.

Oh wait…the 227 isn’t CA compliant; go figure.

  9. Is SIG ever going to settle on which type of extractor they are going to use in their classic line of pistols? Internal extractor, then external extractor, and now the P227 in the photo has an internal extractor. Please make up your collective mind.

  10. I’m not anti gay except when they (or you) shove it in my face. Why can’t they (or you) keep it in the bedroom or behind closed doors? There are a lot more of what you consider ‘assholes’ out there who don’t belong to the NRA than do belong. Buy or don’t buy a gun but don’t make your decision based on if someone is against Queers.

  11. Hmm. This is how long after The Rifleman did a glowing (“A Perfect 10?”) review of the P227 in their April 2014 issue…?

  12. Actually I’d much rather give money to SAF, GOA or other non-NRA orgs. Or for that matter, I’d rather just buy a gun.

  13. In general, I dislike commemorative hoopla on my firearms. Make and model, the end.
Guns are tools. I don’t collect tools, I use them.

  14. I’m inclined to side with Nick on this. The anti-gay sentiment expressed by many people of the gun is holding gun rights back. What is it we tell the anti-gunners? “If you don’t like guns, don’t own one”? Well, if you don’t like gays, don’t marry one. The argument that it bothers you for moral, ethical, or “Natural” reasons don’t hold up. We should not base laws on feelings, but on facts.

Additionally, the “it’s not natural” argument doesn’t hold up coming from anyone who shaves, drives a car, is willing to fly, has tattoos, piercings, etc. The list of “unnatural” things people do is almost endless. If we accept that an act that hurts nobody should be recognized by the state, then we will truly win hearts and minds and swell the ranks of the people of the gun.

    • Gay men and lesbians occupy all of the political spectrum. Many are liberals/progressives/democrats. And many of those, in many cases because of the circumstances of their lives and threats they live with every day, have embraced firearms and the right and necessity for self-defense. Regardless of the rest of their politics they would make stalwart allies. Offending them is not helpful.

    • Right on. If the NRA would advocate purely for gun rights and leave the rest of the issues to politicians they’d get a lot more of my hard-earned dollars.

  15. When’s the last time the NRA did a truly honest review of a gun by an advertiser? Sorry I don’t like the N82 holster. If I had depended on the NRA review would have wasted $50.00
