“He was really kind,” Elaine McClain said. “And when he called us, you could just tell he really felt bad about it. And it was just a slip, and I just know that he really, really has been concerned.” Threatening the tort-avoidance land speed record, Spike Lee has agreed to compensate the Florida couple whose address he erroneously re-Tweeted in a failed attempt to harass George Zimmerman in the wake of the Trayvon Martin shooting, reports ew.com. “At this point in time, we have come to an agreement with Spike Lee and his attorneys, and at this point, the matter is fully resolved,” (the McClain’s attorney, Matt) Morgan said. “Spike has agreed to compensate the McClains for their loss and for the disruption into their lives. He’s taken full responsibility.”

  1. Has he also turned himself in to the police and asked to be arrested? That would be taking FULL responsibility.

  2. “And when he called us, you could just tell he really felt bad about it. And it was just a slip…” Another stupid white person. Honey, if you believe that racist agitator, I’ve got a bridge to sell you….

    • “racist agitator” is an accurate description. But I honestly believe he “gets it’ unlike some others. I think he’s in it for the money – like Jesse Jackson.

  3. He still needs to “Do The Right Thing” and apologize to George Zimmerman for the terror he hoped to inflict on him. What he did was reckless and crass especially in light of the fact that none of the investigations are complete.

    • Any lawyers out there?

I asked this before with no response.

Would George Zimmerman be entitled to nail Spike for the attempt to inflict on him the “loss and . . . disruption into [sic] their lives” which he accidently inflicted on the “wrong Zimmermans”?

      • Maybe. It is a tough case to prove, since addresses are public record. But if you can prove that the intent was to instigate mob violence, then it is assault.

That would be pretty funny. Zimmerman suing someone for taking the law into their own hands.

        • I thought that the “reasonable man” theory might apply. I don’t think Spike thought he was doing Zimmerman a favor by helping his 250,000 followers add him to their Christmas Card list.
There is certainly evidence of how it affected the “wrong Zimmermans” in a dangerous way.

  4. It’s good to see Mr. Lee man up and do the right thing. Still, I can’t help but thinking that the cost/benefit analysis tempered his decision.

  5. If they settled, he didn’t take full responsibility. He absolved himself of it, should thing get crazier.

  6. of course shorty is being nice and kissing their asses….i’m also sure his lawyers had some say in that. i wouldn’t be surprised if they also will try and have the zimmermans sign some type of release while shorty is down there kissing their asses….

  7. We need Spike Lee’s “accountability” every bit as much as we need the New Black Panther Party.

  8. Well I called that fairly well. Easy guess though…

Now, is she still a lunch lady, or is she basically the early winner of CAs Mega Millions??? That was the fastest settlement ever. Sadly I picture him writing a number on a little piece of paper for 10 seconds, folding it in half and sliding it across the table like a badass, to bad he is equally a dick…

  9. That forgiving lady is either an idiot or full of it or both. Spike’s actions cause her to flee out of fear from violence and now she and Spike are buds? How much money was she paid and what are her politics?

  10. I’m surprised how mildly you guys are reacting to this. Maybe there was another post about it in which you expressed stronger opinions.

In my mind, to out someone with the obvious intention of causing them harm is extremely serious and should be a crime like aggravated assault. It should cost him much more than a few bucks which he can easily afford.

    • HOLY CRAP!!!!!! I agree with you Mike, it definitely should cost Spike more than a few dollars.

  11. At the very least he did something to alleviate the crap he did. Perhaps his/their lawyer put it in motion, but being “another stupid white person” I have to say…at least he called and apologized. Maybe he was sincere, you don’t know. Were you there? Chill with the racial stuff. The truth will surface. Be patient. Slow to anger, quick to forgive…try it….once…please.

  12. If nothing else Spike Lee just paid this family for making him socially relevant again. He’s been away from the spot light for awhile now. Instead of paying his PR guy he just cut this family a check. It worked, we’re talking about him out on the “fringe” and he has made main stream media as well.
