The .950 JDJ Rifle -

In the video below, Rock Island Auctions shoots the 950 JDJ Rifle. Why? Money! And, of course, because they can. And just so you know, “this behemoth was developed by the cartridge’s namesake and president of SSK Industries, J.D. Jones. It is 20x110mm Vulcan Cannon cartridge shortened and then necked down to .950 caliber. It’s so large it had to receive an ATF ‘Sporting Use Exception’ from the ATF to avoid be classified as a Destructive Device. Only three rifles were made by SSK to fire this mammoth round.”

Yes! Perfect for offing a wooly mammoth! If only our ancestors hadn’t driven them all over cliffs and into killing pits….

  1. Heh! why not load the projectile into a sabot, and have the fledermaus dipsticks shoot it out of a 12 gauge?

    • “Heh! why not load the projectile into a sabot, and have the fledermaus dipsticks shoot it out of a 12 gauge?”

Because 12 gauge. is something like 0.729 inches in diameter, and .950 JDJ is 0.950 inches in diameter?

        • If you are unable to strike the primer with the firing pin of gun in question, it doesn’t qualify as a ‘try’.

Hence, why we see “shoot .223 from a 12 gauge” and never “shoot 12 gauge from a standard AR pattern rifle” on YouTube.

(Nice job trolling that idiot earlier in the day, BTW…)

        • Just beat it into the chamber with a sledge, and use a nail and hammer on the primer. Can I claim that I thought it was the 0.950mm JDJ as an excuse?

  2. I’ve had the urge to shoot a 4 bore since I first read about them.
There is something magic about that cartridge.
I’ll have to keep an eye on it during the auction to see what it sells for. Maybe I’ll get lucky and know who buys it…

    • Should be able to narrow it down by which of your friends has their shoulder in a sling, an ear to ear grin, and no beer money.

    • Yeah, the article says shortened and necked down case, it’s actually necked UP from 20mm.

Oh and the bullet has the kinetic energy of a 2800lb vehicle going 20mph, just to put it into perspective. So that old movie trope about blasting the bad guy across the room, could actually happen with this round!
