  1. I don’t know what’s more ridiculous about this photo. The gentleman’s whole flag-draped photo setup, or the fact that the lever gun he’s holding might in fact be banned by the CT bill.

    • Gotta go with the ban’s being more ridiculous – far more ridiculous. I’d rather live around a bunch of staunch 2A supporters wearing the Confederate flag than a bunch of people who vote to take away my guns, steal my money, and force propaganda on children through the public schools.

      A bandana, whatever political symbol it may display, cannot take away my rights.

    • It sure is nice. I’m in the market for one right now, preferably in .357mag, but would consider .223. I can find some good ones either at a good price or in Houston, but not both in Houston and at a good price. May end up going with the Ruger 77/357 bolt action.

      • I’d love to find a .357 lever gun also. They just sound like a lot of fun and ammo is fairly easy to find. I think my next purchase is going to be a .17HMR. I shot my cousin’s rifle last week and now I really want one.

    Grow a pair, lose the (confederate flag) mask, and turn the US flag around so it’s displayed properly.

    Note to Mr. Zimmerman, et al, you don’t need to post every photo you receive. Discretion is crucial in any P.R. campaign.

    • Exactly. I support this guy’s right to take patriotic(?) selfies all day long, if that’s what gets him off. But this is certainly not the face I’d like to give to our cause. I would have hoped TTAG would think better of it, too.

      What we need is pictures of clean-cut men and women dressed in business casual (or other attire suggesting gainful employment), holding the biggest, scariest black rifles they own. Our number one goal should be the societal normalization of what our opponents fear. The message we want to send is that people who own “banned” rifles look just like our co-workers, neighbors, friends, and family.

      This picture does the opposite of that.

      If the subject of the photo is reading, cheers to you for your passionate support of the cause, but I hope you can understand why you don’t make a great posterboy.

    • Yes! This is getting ridiculous, I’m half-tempted to send in an even more ridiculous photo than this one – just to be ironic and hilarious – but I’m afraid TTAG might actually publish it. Come to think of it, I’d wager that the guy in this photo was making a funny too. I mean, amiright?

Two weeks off the boat and they start to lecture us about our brutal colonial past. The people who’d like to forget their past feel free to harp on ours. It’s like feminism: I came across a 15th century manuscript in the Bodlean. It was nothing but the whining of an old pilgrim recalling how he was cuckholded by his scold of a young wife. Liberation? Like that didn’t happen the first day half the men went out to hunt woolly mammoths? Stars and bars? Sounds like Las Vegas.

    Why the H3LL are you posting pics of people wearing THAT flag?

    Whatever your position on what the flag actually represents, TTAG is free to choose what it posts and can use some G%dammed descretion in choosing it’s message. This photo is going to hurt more than help by far,especially if it starts floating around some Lefty outlet or just one of the late night shows.

    And the irony is that on the day you make another post about gun owner diversity, you put up a pic to represent us that is of that old white guy who is (possibly) racist.

      • It’s a bandanna in the image of a flag. It is impossible to wear an image of a flag without making a political statement, intentional or not, because flags have meanings to both those that support and those that oppose.

  19. Sorry, the confederate rag has to go. This photo looks like MAIG/MDA posed it and paid for it. Remember the “gun owner” with the beard sitting on the tailgate of the pickup?

    The confederacy practiced and fought for slavery. What people mean when they defend the confederacy with revisionist history is that they miss the days when a white man was not just free, but had a priviliged place in society.

    Now that we’re all equally free, men , women and minorities and make it in life based on our merits and not our superior race some guys can’t deal with it.

    Time to lose that rag and join the 21st century.

    • The Confederates fought for many reasons. Many Confederate soldiers were not partisans of slavery. (I recommend reading “For Cause and Comrades: Why Men Fought in the Civil War” by James McPherson. Excellent book.)

      Be that as it may, one result of Confederate success would have been the continuation of race slavery, true, which was, of course, an abomination. On the other hand, Progressives today fight for the enslavement of everyone – slowly but surely, step by step – and they have already come quite far.

      • I hate to bring up Godwin’s but I’m going to have to in this case, at least partially. Many German soldiers were not Nazis and didn’t care for the racist supremacy /anti-Semitic crap Hitler loved. But while the Swastika may have represented these soldiers in 1944 as well, it also represented the worst of humanity. The fact that some of those who died under it may not have been full nazis doesn’t diminish the evil the standard represents. Anyone flying one now is making a statement and that statement isn’t “heritage.” The same should be true of the confederate battle flag. There is plenty of ‘heritage’ that can be shown with others without the baggage of oppressing millions to get there.

  20. I understand why misinformed folks get their panties all in a bunch over seeing a Confederate flag, but…. Please, people, read your history. Being from the Deep South, we see it every single day as a symbol of heritage, not hate. The Civil War was fought over states rights, NOT slavery as most people believe. Slavery wasn’t an issue until late in the war. Put on your big boy pants and read a book before condemning someone as a being a racist.

    • Quit drinking the revisionist redneck koolaid. Yeah, it was fought over state’s rights… to keep slavery. That ‘peculiar’ institution (I’d call it a institutionalized crime against humanity) was the defining feature of the conflict that became the war. The Union wasn’t purely right but the south was wrong but would prefer to drape itself as a martyr of liberty… for white people.The mythos that has developed by the losing side in that is absurd and self-serving.

    • I was born and raised in the Deep South and the only “heritage” that flag represents is the economy built upon the backs of Africans in slavery.

  21. Confederate imagery does not necessarily imply support of slavery, and until about 15 years ago just about everyone understood that.

    However, that ship has sailed. It’s no longer appropriate to display Confederate imagery without calling a host of insults and accusations of racism down on your head. So why do it?

    If you want to espouse freedoms from central government, there are plenty of other symbols that work that have not yet been stained by the race baiters.

    • Which ones? The Progressives have successfully labeled all of them racist, as far as I can tell.

    • If the progressives successfully smear the AR-15 as a symbol of terrorism one day, does that mean we must sell or otherwise hide them from view to appease people? That’s ridiculous and so is the notion that a flag should be hidden because of PC twisting of the truth. Screw ’em.

        • The man in that photo IS part of the POTG. That flag might very well be a part of his life and his beliefs. Then again, it might have just seemed to be an appropriate prop to him at the time. Liberty cannot be so sterilized as to not have anything that might, in some measure, be offensive to any opposition. I don’t buy into this “winning the hearts and minds” crapola. This isn’t a democracy. There is a Constitution and we are either going to stand on that or fall separately. The leftists certainly can’t handle Liberty. They’ve proven that time and time again. Can we? I can. Hopefully most of us can. Can you?

        • This republic and its constitution wouldn’t exist at all, were it not for Thomas Paine and others who were able to convince enough people to join the rebellion. The hearts and minds campaign had to be won before the revolutionary war could be fought.

          I would rather battle for hearts and minds now than fight another war to save our constitution down the road.

        • Apples and oranges. They were forming the nation. It’s been here for quite a while now and the tools to fight tyranny are embedded within our Constitution. The chance to turn back the tide is now… today; through all of the appropriate “boxes”. The “hearts and minds” already side, in majority, with the 2A otherwise a constitutional amendment would already be underway. If the People pussy-foot around too much longer, Liberty will lose. Push in the courts. Push in DC. Push in the states. Push in the streets. As to your chosen path… good luck with that and I sincerely hope you are correct. I don’t believe that you are and if that is the path that the People continue to choose then our free nation is lost already.

  25. Once upon a time US school kids used to salute the flag every morning with their hand raised in what we now call the ‘Nazi salute’. If the US were to cite that history and say, ‘hey, it wasn’t always about der fuhrer you know,’ I’m sure no one here will have a problem with going back to that salute, right?

    The true history of the battle flag is irrelevant. Just like it’s irrelevant what the word ‘gay’ or ‘faggot’ used to mean. Just like it’s irrelevant that easter used to be a pagan holiday for the goddess Eostre.

    Meaning is created in the heads of people and the people in the middle ground that we want to reach aren’t going to sit down for 15 minutes to hear a lesson about 1860, much less be convinced afterwards that you aren’t still secretly (or semi-secretly) racist.

The War of Northern Agression was mainly fought over states rights and taxation , slavery was but a minor consideration , in the South at the time there were indentured white farmers , also white sharecroppers that were considered at the time in the same vein as blacks slaves , but a lot of the black slaves were not treated as bad as a lot of the nowadays liberals would have ya’ll believe . A lot of folks think that slavery was the main reason for the war , it wasn’t just look at the explanation above . Now as for the flag I like the Bonnie Blue myself . As for showing respect to Conneticut perhaps this is a semblance of this individuals belief in throwing off the encumbrance of what the government has come to , and decided that he feels the same as those that were encumbered by the Union in 1861 . We all know that the federal government is trying to restrict our freedom more everyday , just look at the laws and executive orders that have been passed . As for the firearms owners in Conneticut , stand tall until backup arrives , which once the first volley is thrown it will be on the way ! Be prepared and ready . Keep your powder dry.

    • My ancestors fought for the Confederacy, I have a portrait of Stonewall Jackson on my wall, I fly the Bonnie Blue on Confederate Memorial Day, agree that the vast majority of Rebels did not own slaves…but check out the second sentence of the Mississippi Declaration of Secession: “Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery – the greatest material interest of the world.”
      Unless you are participating in a Civil War reenactment, it’s time to put the battle flag away…unless you’re trying to make people mad, then go ahead.

    • Indentured white farmers. Slaves weren’t treated badly. So why do we defend the constitution again? If slavery isn’t all that bad why do we insist on our 2a rights?

      All men are created equal. All rights are equal. It’s 2014, standing in line to defend the confederacy seems like a load of ignorance to me.

      States rights? Why are we supporting gun owners in CT if we support states rights enough to defend the confederacy’s attmept at splitting the union and violating all the BOR’s?

      Like I said earlier. Paint it any way you want. It’s a bunch of white guys that mourn a loss of privilege based on their race.

      • That’s easy… I support the confederacy’s privilege to have seceded from the nation. Likewise, I would support Connecticut’s decision to secede, if they choose to so do. I do not support slavery and I do not support our government’s violation of the RKBA as tyranny is the ultimate result of such violations.

        What’s so hard to understand about that sort of stance?

        (BTW: Some of my ancestors would have been directly affected by slavery. Other ancestors would have been directly affected by the US’s Native American policies.)

      We stopped what we were doing, grabbed the sign and whatever firearm was nearby, and bob’s your uncle! Frankly, there wasn’t all that much thought put into it other than wanting to show support for our Patriot brothers and sisters in Connecticut.

    While I appreciate the spirit of the gentleman supporting our 2A rights (nice rifle), the Confed mask just ruined it for me. Not good PR for our cause.

    I would think TTAG would know better… there’s a reason my grandfather moved the whole family from Mississippi to California back in the 50’s. Despite the fact he had honorably served in the Army during WW2 and fought for his country, his neighbors still couldn’t see past his skin color and treated our entire family with threats and contempt. That’s the enduring legacy of “The South” to people like myself, despite what meanings you might attach to the flag.

    • And the Progressives can’t see past my religion, my patriotism, and my belief in family. And they want to deprive me of all these things – by taxation, regulation, and their twisted moral contempt.

      Better to be despised for what one knows to be wholly meaningless (the color of one’s skin) rather than for one’s most important beliefs.

      Until we learn to be more offended by a Che shirt or a Hillary poster than by a Confederate flag, we will be fighting against Progressive domination with one hand behind our backs.
