We don’t normally post videos that are months old, but mister3D sent us a link to this Standard Mfg. Co. DP12 shotgun vid with the comment, “I live in a better neighborhood than that.” Clearly, it needed watching. The video doesn’t disappoint – in a ghillie Gonzo sort of way. I think I prefer Standard’s two-shots-per-slide-rack system to Kel-Tec KSG’s one-slide-per-shot action, and flicking a switch to get to the other barrel, besides. But the map is not the territory. I’d need to run the gun before deciding which one would be more, uh, useful? Meanwhile, a YouTube guy wants to know: “How does that shotgun fire by itself while floating in the air?”

  1. The video shows about a dozen examples of why I wouldn’t ever use this gun for home defense. You’ll see him twitch the gun like he’s pulled the trigger, but he forgot that he’s already used his two shots. That’s a very bad situation to be in. High stress rapid fire scenarios, you’re going to pull the trigger and get *click* way too often.
    Looks fun for range time and maybe skeet shooting though.

      • Yeah I feel like if I shot this under stress there would be 8 unfired shells in the ground, that is assuming the action doesn’t stay locked until the second shot is let off. Our ghillie suit man looked like he was fighting the gun any time he upped the tempo.

        • It didn’t look like it locked to me. I didn’t go back and look my first impression was that he did indeed rack early at least once.

      • Not at first…. but it’s something I could definitely get used to.

        I dunno, something about this shotgun appeals to my Doom/Quake-nerd self.

  5. Wow -quite a video. Lots on this on the shotgun FB pages I belong to. My main problem is the price. I can’t see paying $1300 for any pump. That’s Bennelli territory…

  7. Holy crap $1300? For that much, you could get a proven gun like an 870 and have more than enough coin left over to go get training.

      • Better yet, get it harmonically tuned like a Cabot. Aren’t they going to start making 1911’s with a particular sound?

    • Amen. If I’m spending $1300 on a home defense weapon, I’m buying an IAC 982 for every major room in my home, plus enough 00 buck to end thirty years’ worth of Fergusons.

  8. Looking forward to a TTAG review. I hear the quality is quite a bit better than the KSG. At least it looks like the pic rails are made out of aircraft grade aluminum, rather than recycled Pringles lids.

    • My son–the second one, not the first one that made my pistol grips–made a ghillie suit that looks as good as that one out of recycled camo shirts and pants he got at a second-hand store. Made it to play paintball in, he fancied himself a sniper…

  13. All the effort put into this thing could have been better spent making a semi that feeds reliably from box mags. I love my Saiga, but I’m under no illusions with it. The amout of time, effort, and money I would need to trust its reliability in a combat scenario is more than I’m willing to spend right now.

    • I watched DP 1 through 3 but the plots were already getting pretty thin. Can’t believe they’ve made 12 of them.

  15. I’m all for people trying new things, but I would have thought the engineering time would have been better spent devising a form of detatachable tube magazine or two fixed tubular magazines side by side and a semi auto that switches to the second one once the first is dry.

  19. I have one, and I have put everything I could get my hands on through it without one hickup. Only the furniture is plastic. All internal parts are steel or aluminum. The receiver is machined out of a solid block of aluminum.
    I would grab this before I would grab my mossberg or benelli. Say what you will, but the manual of arms is really not that difficult to transition to. Yeah, it’s pricey, but I know a lot of people around here have spent a lot more on guns.
    1st pull=right barrel, 2nd =left. Since it is basically two shotguns side by side your feeding is in-line so no Keltec kind of feed problems. No switch, and AR style safety.
    To each his own, but don’t knock it till you have put 16 rounds down range. The spring loaded but pad is a nice touch.
    The fact that it is made by and off shoot of Connecticut Shotgun gives me even more confidence since they seem to know shotguns. They make the barrels for these out of their proprietary steel so this thing is built well and like a tank.

  20. I have one also. Although an avid collector the shotgun portion of my toys was always related to game getters. I have had my 870 ready and loaded with alternate slug and 00 for many years and thankfully never have had to use it. I just didn’t consider shotguns as ‘fun’. I would challenge anybody to inspect and shoot one of these before crying about the Jones’. It eats everything I have collected in leftover boxes over the years. It is scary accurate. Slugs offhand at 100 yards with an Eotech are common. When I miss I know it’s my fault. I’m to old to play specops wannabe so I will have to wait until somebody rums it through the mud and desert while dumping 5000 rounds before I declare it dependable. I will put this in perspective though. If I had a son in an urban combat situation, I would send him one!
