Here’s the body count for August – so far! Would you tolerate that level of violence in your city? It doesn’t just happen in the … Read more

It Should Have Been A DGU: Chicago Southsider Edition

It was after 3:30 a.m. when the burglar alarm went off at Mark Hayes’ far south Chicago home. Waking up to investigate the commotion, he was barefoot and unarmed when he spotted an intruder in his garage. USMC veteran Hayes called out to his wife, who brought him his shoes. And a filet knife. Then the … Read more

Saturday Evening Post: Really, REALLY Late Edition – Chicago

Again, apologies for our site outage. Talk about frustrating – our site went down not because of anything we did or our hosting company. Nope, we were caught in the collateral damage between two warring companies upstream for us in the big, wide, less-than-wonderful world of routers, DNS and OC3s. Turns out, you can’t really make anything foolproof, because fools are so bloody ingenious. Having said that…

Chicago: 5 1/2 Months to Process Gun Permits

Imagine if we were talking about the right to vote. Liberals would be up in arms (almost) if the City of Chicago created laws designed to make it as difficult as possible for African Americans to exercise that Constitutionally-guaranteed right to vote. But because Mayor Daley’s mob are doing their level best to stop minority citizens from exercising their recently re-affirmed right to bear arms, it’s OK to erect roadblocks. Such as a five-and-a-half month delay in processing applications, as reported by The Chicago Tribune. Like the City didn’t know to prepare for this. Or there’s a deluge of applicants. Anyway, there’s more than one way not to skin a cat . . .

U.S. Supreme Court Strikes Down Chicago’s Handgun Ban

The decision has just been handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court, reaffirming your right to own a gun in all 50 states. This is a game-changer, folks. In a 5 to 4 ruling, Justice Samuel Alito writing for the majority, stated “the right to keep and bear arms must be regarded as a substantive guarantee, not a prohibition that could be ignored so long as the States legislated in an evenhanded manner.”

Chicago Mayor Daley: Why Can’t I Bring a Gun to the Supreme Court?

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley is staring down the barrel of a Supreme Court decision throwing out The Windy City’s gun ban. This does not please Hizzoner, who is not used to people telling him what to do. Or, apparently, where he can or can not take a gun. “The thing I can’t understand is I can’t go to the Supreme Court with a gun,” Daley said to or near ABC News. “Why not? Why can’t I go with a gun and listen to the arguments? If a gun is so important to us on the streets. I’m just saying let cities make decisions for themselves. None of [the Supreme Court justices] live here in Chicago,” said Daley. Somehow I don’t think they would, now. FYI I’ve posted a list of the relevant Municipal Codes of Chicago that apply to handgun possession (or lack thereof) from the original lawsuit, after the jump. Click here for a pdf of the relevant Highland Park (IL) handgun ordinances. I’ve also scraped ChicagoGunCase.com‘s specific criticisms of the statutes.
