30 Days to Conceal Carry, Day 14

So as we cruise into the midpoint of my little 30-day chronicle, it occurs to me that I’ve not talked about guns and dating. There’s actually a reason for that. I don’t get out much. Being a divorced dad, I’ve learned, the hard way, that this dating thing is time-consuming, expensive, and unpredictable at best. Simply put, dating is a bitch. One of the many reasons I never wanted to be single again was the prospect of having to screw my courage to the sticking place and go back to dating again. I’ve got nothing against dating, per se, but the challenge of finding a girl to date is a little more daunting and time-consuming than I enjoy. Between courting, planning, dating, worrying about money, et cetera, it’s not like I need one more thing to act as a barrier within the concept of my social life.

Book Review: A Girl’s Guide to Guns and Monsters

On my way back from Dallas, I had to pull over for a pit stop at one of the many truck stops that pepper I-20. Like many of today’s trucker’s tabernacles, this particular one featured not only petrol, but a cafe, a fast food counter, an (in)convenience store, and the like. (You ever check out the prices in those places? Sometimes I think it would make more sense for the sales clerks to wear the masks. Sheesh.)

The Gender Politics of Guns

I was at a gun store recently. The clerk behind the counter showed me a gun I wanted to see. He said, “she’s a beauty, isn’t she?” Got me to thinking . . . Why do we assign gender to inanimate objects? I’ve done a lot of thinking and research into this. Well “a lot,” as in “I did a Google search.” And I think I’m on to something. (That’s on TO something RF. Not ON something.) I think it started with, as Glenn Beck would say, the Frenchy French.
