While the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin saga unfolds in Florida amid protests and death threats, a different story is quietly playing itself out in the opposite corner of the country. But you might not know much about it, because this Northwest self-defense story isn’t getting much airplay on network news. Maybe because it doesn’t play into their race-baiting, anti-gun narrative.
home invasion
Did you hear the one about the Anti-Gun Senator shooting an intruder?
Stop me if you’ve heard this one…a blowhard, anti-gun Senator rags on gun owners, day in and day out. So one night, he’s at home, living his Life O’Reily, when an intruder shows up to burgle/home invade/rob/commit mayhem. What’s a poor Progressive that abhors gun ownership to do? Silly wabbit! If they are a state senator, they do what any other gun owner would do – they pull out their gun and air condition the criminal with a little lead. Ventilate the varmint. Give him lead poisoning. Shoot the muther. (You get my drift.)
Speaking of Home Invasions…
There’s a rhythm to the Universe. Seriously. How else to explain that the jury finally returned a verdict in the Trial That Dragged On For 8 Years of Brian Mitchell, the abductor of Elizabeth Smart, at virtually the same time that Oprah Winfrey chose to try and pad her ratings by interviewing Dr. Petit? Both cases involved armed home invasions. Both are headline-grabbing, horrific affairs. But the Elizabeth Smart case bears some review here, too.
Petit Home Invasion: Another Perspective.
After reading RF’s thoughtful piece on the Petit tragedy, I was moved to respond. But as I collected my thoughts, I realized what I had to say would take more space than the comments section allows, hence this separate post.

Stephen Jackson Home Invasion – The Mistakes
The LA Times reports that three robbers invaders Charlotte Bobcats basketball player Stephen Jackson’s crib at 7am Wednesday morning. The masked men held Jackson’s wife Renata at gunpoint. At some point, they locked her in a bathroom and left. Amongst other items, the perps removed a 9mm pistol and a stun gun. Far be it for me to judge Mr. Jackson’s security measures based on such scant information. But someone’s got to do it. So let’s start with this: Jackson’s an idiot.
Octogenarian Beatrice Turner’s .22 Gits ‘Er Done
No, her name isn’t “Annie.” (That would just be toooo perfect, now wouldn’t it?) But when the goin’ got tough, Beatrice Turner got her gun, and got ‘er done. And her story can serve as an object lesson to all those that say you “have to be a great shot” and be someone who keeps those skills up by weekly visits to the gun range, in order to defend yourself. Not.
