Things That Don’t Suck: Streamlight Wedge XT Rechargeable EDC Light

I’ve been carrying a Streamlight Wedge for the past couple of years as my primary EDC light. It’s a great light. It’s flat, and it has a pocket clip so it carries much like a folding knife in your pocket. It puts out a very usable 300 lumens of light for routine use and … Read more

A Weapon-Mounted Light on Your Everyday Carry Gun? Read This First

Among the many internet gun debates that tend to clog up cyberspace is whether or not weapon-mounted lights should be on carry pistols. Discussions of weapon lights often devolve into a debate of weapon lights versus handheld lights. That doesn’t make sense to me. The addition of a weapon-mounted light (WML) doesn’t require the user … Read more

Everyday Carry: Make Sure You Have the Fundamental Four When You Leave the House

Thanks to the internet and social media, EDC or everyday carry have become ultra-popular terms. Thousands upon thousands of Instagram users post their EDC photos on a daily basis. Hardened Arms says “The LumaShark is an Illuminated, weaponized, 12″ free float handguard whose patented features have eliminated the need for bulky bolt on flashlights on the AR Platform.” While I’m not convinced they’re truly eliminated the bulk, they certainly have integrated interchangeable flashlights/lasers into an AR handguard. SHOT Show Gear Preview: PowerTac Cadet, Warrior Flashlights

The world of ‘tactical’ (read: black, brawny and brighter than blazes) flashlights is almost as crowded as the Venetian hotel’s food court. PowerTac illuminated us on their entry into the field; we’ll be putting several of their models to the test in the coming weeks to see if they’re as drop-proof, waterproof and headache-inducingly bright as the company claims. Meanwhile, let me shine a little light on their designs . . .

Gear Review: Cree “Tactical” LED Flashlight

Remember back when Mag-lite was the last word in aircraft-grade aluminum illumination? Those old incandescent Mag-Lites weren’t any brighter than ordinary flashlights, but their indestructible machined-aluminum bodies made them the choice of police, private security, Elvis and burglars. They were “tacticool” before people had a chance to learn to hate that word. The longer D-cell Mag-lites resembled aluminum billy clubs; they delivered a more devastating blow than any Monadnock PR-24 police baton ever could. Despite their size and weight, however, they still weren’t all that bright.
