The Team 5 Foundation is a 100% volunteer organization made up of veterans who travel to remote areas around the globe to provide medical assistance. We also give much needed medical training to the areas we treat, allowing us to make a long-term impact after each deployment is complete.

I sit on the board and am one of their volunteer medics. I’ve been deeply honored to help out with this mission, and to serve alongside some real heroes in Team 5. This really is just veterans giving their labor, their time, their talents, and their money to help less fortunate people. To get a good look at what Team 5 does, check out our video above.

Team 5 holds an annual fundraiser each year at the SHOT Show. In conjunction with that fund raiser, we also host an online silent auction. This year, the People of the Gun will be particularly interested, as there are several guns up for auction. That includes a one-off, completely custom Black Rain Ordinance 5.56, and a Precision Rifle Ordinance custom blue-printed action bolt gun. Stock guns include a Spike’s Tactical Pipe HitterRadian and Ballistic Advantage ARs in 5.56 NATO. There’s also a ton of gear.

The bees knees though, at least for me, is four slots for a custom forge session with master bladesmith Daniel Winkler himself. You’ll go to his shop and forge any knife of your choosing, one of his designs or one of your own.  Mr. Winkler and his staff will walk you through the entire process and you’ll leave with a truly one-of-a-kind custom knife made with one of the great master smiths. You’ll be competing with me on one of those.

If you are looking for guns, knives, or gear, you’ll be doing yourself a favor by checking out the auction. Plus, you’ll be helping out a great cause.

If you’ll be in Las Vegas and would like to attend the fundraiser, it’s open to the public at 8pm on January 17th at Stoney’s Rockin Country, 6611 South Las Vegas Blvd, #160, Las Vegas, NV. There’s a $25 cover charge and that includes one raffle entry and a drink ticket. I hope to see you there.

Do good deeds, JWT, and save the world.

    • Thank you, sir. But seriously, I better win one of those forging sessions. As a journeyman smith, Winkler is a personal hero.

      • As a knife guy, I’m intrigued. I’m going to go check out the items…
Kudos to you and the group Jon.

  2. Pretty sweet how you have a wide selection of gear that covers a huge variance in price range. That’s a very good idea. Way too many of these type of actions feature just a few items that are out of the price range for a lot of the people who look at the auction and fall into one or two categories.

I’ve never seen MaxTrax on an auction before and you’ve got Tactishelfs in the same auction? So yeah, kudos on the range of gear and prices.

On a related note; it would be nice to see some other companies get involved in this sort of charity event as opposed to just the usual suspects. I wonder how, short of knowing someone in a high position, one prods some of those companies into doing the right thing.

    Keep on keeping on.

  3. Never heard of this group before, but I’ll definitely be supporting them now! MAD props to people who do this, incredibly brave men and women who go to remote, and frequently very dangerous parts of the world with the sole goal of saving the lives of strangers. They truly exemplify some of the very best human qualities.
