According to seattletimes.nwsource.com, a 25-year-old man shot himself in the head at a Vancouver home. A preliminary investigation found the man had been “showing off” his new .357-caliber revolver to a friend. Condolences to the family (really). And did you know you have to break TWO of the prime gun safety rules to create a negligent shooting? True story.
I can't believe you scooped me on this; it happened a few miles from my home here in Vancouver. Oh well, that's what I get for taking the kids to Harry Potter and going (relatively) offline for the weekend. Here's what our local newspaper has to say about it:
A 25-year-old man showing off a new gun fatally shot himself in the head early Saturday morning at a home in Vancouver, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
Clark County Sheriff’s deputies and Vancouver Police officers were called at 2:52 a.m. Saturday to a house at 4213 N.E. 38th St. to a report of a possible suicide or accidental shooting.
They found the man dead in a back bedroom with a single gunshot wound to the head, according to a press release. His name was not released, pending notification of next of kin.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the man had been showing a newly purchased .357-caliber revolver to his friend when he shot himself, the press release said. Detectives with the Clark County Major Crimes Unit responded and are conducting the investigation.
The house was occupied at the time of the shooting by numerous adults who had been consuming alcohol at the time of the shooting, the press release said.
What I got from this story (if the report is true) is that a young man got shot in the coconut at three in the morning while drinking with a whole bunch of people, none of whom were his next of kin. Call me cynical, but I'm not necessarily thinking accident here. Shooting off one's pinky toe is an accident. Having a cap busted in one's own crown is often something else, even in Canada where everyone is polite and nice and nobody gets depressed or angry even when they are roaring drunk. I'm just sayin'.
