I’ve made no secret of my antipathy to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive (and really big fires). Not to put too fine a point on it, the ATF is a waste of over a billion U.S. tax dollars. As someone who monitors gun stories in his sleep (PING!), I get the impression that every time the ATF busts someone they do so in conjunction with a local, state, tribal or federal law enforcement agency (of which we have many). Which leads me to wonder: did the other agency really need the ATF or did the ATF muscle-in on the action? To be fair, here’s a report from nola.com where the ATF came to the rescue of the Covington LA police. Well, an ATF dog. Wait, that backs up my point. Anyway . . .

I’m surprised the ATF didn’t put White away before. Or someone.
