It is very much inevitable that before we know anything more than there was another shooting in a gun-free zone, the anti-gun crowd begins screeching at the top of their lungs for more laws. Ban “assault weapons”! Universal background checks! Magazine capacity limits! More gun-free zones! Never let a crisis go to waste. Then they get upset because they know that gun sales will skyrocket. I am going to attempt to use an example to explain this, and maybe — just maybe — a few hoplophobes will understand. I know, it’s a cute thought. But this is the truth about guns, so I’m about to give the antis a does of that truth . . .
Anti gunners: it is 100% the fault of anyone (you, politicians, activists, etc,) who demand more laws after a prominent shooting that gun sales go through the roof. Think of it this way…let’s say the company that makes your favorite pink polo, shampoo, lotion, or perfume announces that they will be discontinuing your favorite product. They will no longer provide you with something you love. What would you do?
Most likely you’d attempt to go buy more of the product so you can have as much as possible before the product is permanently off the shelves. It’s simple economics. Gun buyers react the same way.
Here’s another truth that may be difficult for an anti gunner to get as well. We (the ones who buy several guns after a gun control “scare”) aren’t the ones you need to worry about. We stock up on guns and ammo and magazines and other gear because we are following the law. It’s far easier to follow the law now than it will be once shove more restrictions down our throats. We are buying guns now under the laws because we can LEGALLY obtain them easier that way.
It isn’t rocket science and at the risk of overstating the obvious, the Lafayette theater shooter was most likely a felon (arson-almost always classified as a felony, although, I couldn’t find the exact charge against him, involuntary commitment, an order of protection). That means he most likely wasn’t supposed to have a gun, yet he magically got around all your laws and obtained one.
In 2006 Houser applied for a concealed carry permit, which was denied, because of an arrest record from Columbus, Ga., for arson, and indication of mental issues. – CBS News
No magical combination of fairy dust and unicorn flatulence in the form of legislation would have prevented this criminal from getting a gun; he would have simply broken more laws. Maybe if we just ban murder harder. Yeah…that’ll work.
No amount of laws will stop bad people from doing bad things. And all the laws and threats do is make it harder for the rest of us to obtain guns, resulting in guns flying off the shelves. See how that works?
Some truth however another truth is…even a low chance of being shot at…TTAG your it. Reminds us every time it happens that could me or my family. Then you have a choice, either run or level the field and return fire. More people are choosing lawful self defense.
And that’s a good thing.
You can not fix stupid Ms.? Mrs.? Tipton. I really, REALLY wish you could….
The only way to fix stupid is to bury it 6 feet under ground.
I don’t suggest hurrying it along unlike the anti-gunners with their swatting legal carriers.
When Hostess announced it was banning Twinkies, I bought 5000 rounds…I mean…cakes.
Huh, what a coincidence. When Hostess banned the twinkie I bought 5,000rds too; go figure…
My favorite stuff always seem to be discontinued. I actually use my behavior as a consumer to predict trends. Right after I buy something demand drops. The only time I’ve ever “beat the market” was when I bought 15 FDE Magpul mags and a M&P15 MOE for msrp at the beginning of December 2012. Still have them though, didn’t flip them, I wanted mags.
Was on the road when Bush announced the first ban…..called the shop and spoke with the owner/friend and he pulled all the AKs. WE/He made a LOT of money that year…..and not much has changed..’cept for a MILLION+ more NRA members! Bring it!
Every time a bad person does a bad thing, the hoplos try to take the guns away from the good people who have done nothing wrong. Which kinda ticks off us, the good people. Then, the hoplos want a “dialog.”
Is there any wonder that we want them to FOAD?
Beyond economics, it’s human nature.
When you get right down to it, economics is human nature.
At least this article is selfie free, if not redundant.
I’m thinking you meant to claim it was redundant. It’s far from such, it’s an interesting suggestion on how to phrase an argument against a specific whine the antis sometimes engage in. I hadn’t thought of presenting it that way, myself.
I’m waiting for Farago’s pic of him in shorty-shorts with nicely-done hair, looking slightly off camera.
“I’m waiting for Farago’s pic of him in shorty-shorts with nicely-done hair, looking slightly off camera.”
If he has a coy smile in that pic I’ll likely barf…
🙂
Tough crowd tonight.
“Tough crowd tonight.”
We’ll be here all week.
Make sure to tip your waitress…
(H/T to Ralph)
I doubt that the Antis really care whether their calls for more gun-control threatens ever-increasing civilian inventories of guns. They know they have a problem mopping-up 300+ million guns; 400+ million or 500+ million won’t make their problem materially harder.
What the Antis have to consider is that incidents – whether they be “mass” killings, “active-shooter” incidents or individual murders of law-abiding citizens, the count of gun-owner/self-defence constituents rises. This process is largely irreversible.
Once you were born into a family in the gun-culture you have natural immunity. Once you have decided that the risk of being armed is markedly lower than the risk of being defenseless, it’s hard to reverse that decision.
The triggering incidents won’t stop. They can ONLY get worse. We can ONLY have:
– more riots in the inner-cities
– more Jihadi attacks
– more crazies shooting up GFZ venues
– more crimes against law-abiding citizens
– more debate on the internet
None of this really drives the Anti’s meme.
The most important effect I can see from the foregoing is to build the sense of futility among the marginal members of the strident Antis. We can’t imagine rendering despondent someone like Bloomberg or an organization like the Joyce Foundation. However, these organizations need cannon-fodder to constitute camera-candy in the dozens and dozens and dozens. What happens to their movements if their marginal members turn their attention to the legion of other Progressive causes?
Who will preach to the not yet born-again gun-control sympathizers? Will the gun-control sympathizers also turn their attention to other Progressive causes? The astroturf will seem to be trimmed pretty short.
Meanwhile, the number of people who take-up carrying steadily grows. Therefore, the number of people-who-carry known by any undecided voter steadily rises. That normalizes guns in polite society. Once that inevitability becomes evident, the war-on-guns will end.
Yes, this^^^^^^
Yeah, well if there’s one thing I’ve learned, logic simply does not work on anti-gunners.
I think what also comes into play is it gets people to thinking about how it would be important to own a weapon when these things happen
$20 says a lot of the antis own S&W and Roger stock. . . . they are making the market on purpose. There, I said
People who live in places where murder by a total stranger ” doesn’t happen here” and then when it does happen, they see it could happen to them. So now they get a gun.
Add to the mix a terriorist who attacked a specific target that was surrounded by civilian businesses.
Organized and planned violence is on the rise. When these incidents start to happen monthly or every two weeks it may become difficult to buy a hand gun when they are sold out in most gun stores.
Chattanooga gun stores are having their best gun selling rates in years now.
Knuckle-dragging redneck gun-sheep don’t realize their making more civilized people justify wanting gun control and thier fear towards brainwashed gun-slave terrorists from making mass purchases of guns and ammo because said gun-terrorists think they’re “wu’re suving amurica frum duh evul gubermint!”
Criminals and crazies would not have guns if you didnt gun-sheeple, You’re not really free if your allowed to own dangerous weapons that our more likely to kill you or a loved one than stop a “bad guy”.
Wake-up gun-sheeple.
All criminals started as law abiding citizens, gun-slaves.
I still don’t see Europe, Japan or Australia becoming despotic 3rd world dictatorships, Last time I checked, their people are still alive and walking safely without the fear of an NRA terrorist from causing trouble and their crimes are still low.
Now America will see just how vicious the rabid “law abiding gun community” has become. Many parallels can be drawn between pre-WW2 Germany and what is Happening in America today. The extreme gun nuts is totally out of control. They will push this country to radical actions that will turn the world against America. I sure hope they can be stopped
The “law abiding gun owners” disguise destruction with patriotism. They are the greatest danger to this nation since the Axis powers in WWll. Make no mistake about it, their obsession with destroying Obama will hurt this county deeply. No doubt, they have turned on this nation, I hope the people see through the rhetoric.
“A report released by the F.B.I. on Wednesday confirmed what many Americans had feared but law enforcement officials had never documented: Mass shootings have risen drastically in the past half-dozen years.
There were, on average, 16.4 such shootings a year from 2007 to 2013, compared with an average of 6.4 shootings annually from 2000 to 2006. In the past 13 years, 486 people have been killed in such shootings, with 366 of the deaths in the past seven years. In all, the study looked at 160 shootings since 2000. (Shootings tied to domestic violence and gangs were not included.)
Many of the sprees ended before the police arrived, the report said. In 44 of the 64 cases in which the F.B.I. was able to determine the length of the shooting, the gunfire lasted less than five minutes. Twenty-three shootings ended in less than two minutes. In 64 of the 160 total cases, the gunmen committed suicide. ”
More deaths just because you gun toting hillbilly twats feel the need to carry a gun it’s pathetic and frankly sick that you value a gun and refuse to allow any change to your precious right to bear arms above the hundreds that are killed due to lax gun control.
Watch out, King Ad Hominem is back.
By the way, your premise of equating mass shooting to school shooting is flawed as they are not mutually inclusive. The NY Times article you’re referring to also makes the mistake of equating any active shooter scenario to a mass shooting. The article has already been refuted in it’s entirety by John Lott, especially when you note that 40% of the shootings involved in the “study” occurred in residential areas where no one fired a shot or was wounded, not to mention the cases the study didn’t take into account.

Billy Horsecock sounds more like a writer on the “Moms Against Everything” parody FB page than he realizes.
Yawn. You really need to learn the proper use of “they are”, “their” and “thier” [sic]. Sorry. I didn’t get beyond that.
I’m sorry, that’s asking far to much from ‘little willie’…
Well Will, all good, until your staring at the business end of a barrel, opposite of a man with no empathy towards you or anyone else in the room and wants what you have or perhaps the gal your with. You’ll try to engage in conversation and that will abruptly end when he pistol whips your jaw and drives you to your knees. You’ll know instinctively he’s in charge and for the first time you’ll understand the meaning of compliance. Perhaps you’ll wonder if your assailant read the same statistics, studies and opinion you have. Maybe if your lucky you might get through the ordeal whole, but your mind will forever be changed.
A college friend of mind was robbed, he complied and was told he was going to die, then shot while on his knees, 22 caliber bullet just behind his ear…he lived and because he lived, the shooter got attempted manslaughter.
So go on, live your life as you see fit, until in presence of evil, then perhaps you’ll want that tool, and muster the guts to end evil.
Go stuff your head right back up Karl Marx rotted backside, which is where you seem to have pulled it out from.
“There were, on average, 16.4 such shootings a year from 2007 to 2013, compared with an average of 6.4 shootings annually from 2000 to 2006. ”
Hmm…so, what you’re saying is that under Bush we had 6.4 per year and then your idol Obama comes in and more than doubles the annual number of mass shootings? Way to go, O!
And Willy, I apologize if my correct usage of “you’re” and “your” confuses you.
Bend over and take it. Or this guy has never been in a situation where seconds matter. Never had to defend himself. Must live in a bubble.
You might think (apparently erroneously) that Bloomberg’s money could at least hire trolls who had managed to pass basic English grammar and composition courses in high school.
Oh, it will. I suspect, in fact, WL has a B.S. in something or other.
But, you see, since we’re obviously all a bunch of uneducated redneck hicks, he writes like that to try to make us think he’s one too.
You know, generating empathy and all that.
the Billionaire midget would rather have a mindless minion than a highly valued (and compensated) employee. Minions take the fall for the guy because they believe the crap they are told. Employees stick around as long as the money flows.
What Willy doesn’t realize is that the definition for mass shootings has changed over the years. Soon it’ll be if more than one person is shot, it will qualify as a “mass shooting”.
Much like “assault weapon”, the term is changed and abused by the media to suit their ratings and drive people into hysterics.
Simple fact is, aside from isolated incidents like Louisiana, crime is still trending downward. However, signs of civil unrest are apparent. I would not be surprised to see frequent riots based on class and race in the next ten years. Willy will call the police, the rest of us will batten down the hatches and tend to our own.
As for the countries he mentions not turning into despotic regimes, it’s apparent he hasn’t been watching the news lately. Europeans love their authoritarianism. Most of those nations are one election away from despotism. Japan, by nature, is an authoritarian-corporatist nation. Free nation they are not.
The only reason Japan sells us nifty consumer electronics is because they failed to conquer and enslave us.
They still would if they thought they could get away with it.
Every time I see another one of your colorfully written posts on TTAG, I will donate money to the NRA, earmarked “from Willie Lunchmeat.”
And, I will buy one box of ammo, and/or a gun, if the mood stikes me.
All this in your honor, of course.
Congratulation, Wille. By posting on here you will be supporting the evil gun lobby and gun/ammo manufacturers.
I think that lunchmeat smells rank and needs to be thrown in the trash.
If universal background checks worked for people who want to buy guns, we’d probably already have them for people who want to buy crack, meth, coke, pot, etc.
Criminals don’t buy guns in gun stores or at gun shows (where NICS checks are almost always done anyway). They buy guns from the same people who sell them crack, meth, coke, pot, etc.
Then where does the illegal dealers get the guns then blammo?
Criminals would not have guns if you didnt gun-slaves.
Where, Cause they don’t come from the mythical gun-fairy!
All illegal Guns started as legal gun nuts!
Where do you think criminals from foreign countries get their illegal weapons?, They get them from this country because of it’s lax gun laws.
Europe, Australia and Japan are safe and have no violent crime or mass killings due to their strict laws and quality of life and the only reasons they have “gun crime” is because guns from america get smuggled to these countries which wouldn’t happen if this country had common sense gun-control!
You brain-dead sheeple humor me, Every-time I shed a cruel truthful light on yo terrorists and your obsolete “freedom” to murder, You gun nuts deny reality and post links to debunked sites, debunked stats and terrorist propaganda websites.
The Nazi Rifle Association, gun manufactures, rush limbaugh, glenn beck, fox news and TTAG makes millions off you idiots and you eat the crap these tyrants feed you!
Whenever there’s one of these mass shootings, gun sales sky rocket. Nut jobs are good for the gun lobby’s bottom line.
The founding fathers have even stated they “second amendment was’nt ment for civilians otherwise we still be under the union jack.
The Five Stages of Gun-nut Denial (of horrible crimes committed by one of their own) ;
1) Blame the media
2) Blame the victims for not being armed
3) Blame liberals because the perp wasn’t locked away in an insane asylum years ago
4) Claim the shooter was a liberal who voted for Obama
5) Claim it is all a hoax and conspiracy because (government Obama FEMA rights freedumb Benghazi).
English your second language? You commenting from a .gov computer in North Korea?
Every criminal started out normal, every “illegal gun” started out as a “legal gun”. Impeccable logic, please continue…
When exactly did love of freedom become an idea worthy of mockery? i.e. “mah freedomz” or “freedumb”. What have you got that’s so much more admirable? Nothing. “Mah freedoms” are a worthier cause than any you’ve ever had or will ever know. You should be ashamed not to understand it.
As for the column… fair choice of analogy, Ms. Tipton. I’d have gone with Jolt cola, but like the e-trade baby says “whatever helps you understand, man”.
BAHAHAHHAHAA!!!!
“Europe, Australia and Japan are safe and have no violent crime or mass killings due to their strict laws and quality of life.. ”
pure Internet gold.
Exactly what I thought 🙂
You know, proper comma placement–and usage in general–goes a long way toward the reader understanding just what the fuck you’re trying to convey.
“Let’s eat grandma!”
“Let’s eat, grandma!”
Something like that…
Hmm, edit feature no worky…
Mmmmm, tasty!
“Europe, Australia and Japan are safe and have no violent crime”…
See, I was thinking not troll… But now I’m starting to think… probably troll.
And no, cartels do not get their full auto AK47s from the USA, where they “started out as legal”. (Though I’m sure some antis believe that…)
A lot of foreign arms companies and militaries actually do sell directly to the criminal element… bypassing the US completely.
Instead of troll, I think of Willy as parody 🙂
They get them from anti-gun legislators like California State Senator Leland Yee.
Hell the US government sells weapons to “todays” freedom fighters without background checks.
Or just walks them across the border ala fast and furious
Do you really think that the same rings that smuggle millions of pounds of illicit drugs and tens of thousands of illegal aliens into this country wouldn’t fill their pockets by smuggling in hundreds of thousands of guns to fill the existing criminal demand? If all the guns in the country were magically turned into walkie-talkies overnight, the cartels would have a field day flooding every market with illicit guns smuggled in from Mexico and overseas. Thugs will pay a premium for these illegal gats, because even the crappiest gun will give them an overwhelming advantage against their now guaranteed-to-be-disarmed victims.
As we found out with the War on Drugs, banning something does not decrease its demand.
Never heard of the “black market”?
It’s not new. It’s been around since the beginnings of civilization and it materializes whenever there is oppressive authoritarian (e.g., government) control of a good or service that people need or want badly enough. Often, badly enough to risk their lives. No amount of authoritarian control, brutality or tyranny can eradicate the black markets. They exist in prisons.
Sir/ma’am, you have become my favorite poster on TTAG 🙂
You are to Bloomberg and his ilk what Colbert is to Republicans. I salute you.
Gun-control freakazoids are just insane. They keep spouting the same b.s. every single time and expect a different outcome.
They refuse to recognize facts & logic even when it repeatedly beotch-slaps them right in their smug mugs over and over again.
The more “control” this small group loud libtard sheeple try to push, the more free people will shun you aside. Just ask Bloomie-boy how his anti-soda campaign worked. 😉
Keep waiving the bloody shirts of your victims. You’re only making it worse for yourselves.
I’ve noticed that gun control, safety, sense is the one size fits all answer that some people bring to any question or debate. Street crime? Terrorism? Racist zealots? Extreme Radical Conservatives? Gun bans could fix them all, and lower gas prices while reducing your carbon footprint.
Their claims are truly outlandish. I’ve even heard them claim that gun control will kill the germs that may cause bad breath, that gun control knows where Waldo is, and that gun control is ribbed for her pleasure.
I see 8 AR’s in that picture and I go, “ho hum.” Then I see the lone sks off to one side and I think, “I really miss my sks….”
“guns from america get smuggled to these countries which wouldn’t happen if this country had common sense gun-control!”
“smuggling” by definition means the practice is happening despite laws that make it illegal. But hey…maybe the current laws prohibiting firearm smuggling aren’t “common sense”. Yeah, that must be it. Another $25 in the Benelli Jar, Willy’s gonna make sure I have it by fall. 🙂
We have an enormous heroin problem in parts of the US, yet Heroin is not domestically produced. If only we had common sense drug laws the deaths would stop!
Except of course we already have more drug laws on the books than IRS regulations and the stuff is still for sale….everywhere. ‘That’s the exact same plan Willy and his pals who cannot learn from past mistakes have for Firearms. But they’ll feel like they accomplished something and it’s really all about feelings, not results.
The fundamental flaw of the NICS check is it relies on the honesty of the person completing the form.
The chances of being found out are very small. Even VP “shotgun”-Jo Biden said they don’t have the resources to chase everyone who lies on a form. While there about 40,000 NICS denials per annum, most (over 90%) are false-positives with less than 20 people actually convicted for NICS violations.
NICS performs to spec. However, computer system results are only as good as the data they are given. The issue here, as with Dyllan Roof, was that those charged with enforcing the laws, are not doing so. Part of the NICS system involves LE reporting things, which it seems they are not. The antis like Willy Lunchmeat tend to bleat about passing more laws, but little do they realize parts of their “problems” could be solved by enforcing existing laws.
Getcha Sara.
I feel TTAG is, you can’t get there inductively. Any attempt is just a compilation of approximates.
I appreciate the forum here, i like to vent against anti-gunners. I am pro-gun becuse I like guns, a lot, “it’s my golf” might give it some perspective. But we don’t get to talk guns here as much as we’d like, becase, too often, TTAG is there are those amongst us that are against us having them. My position has always been to push back on them 110%; 1) because history doesn’t require you to be a student of it, nor be an expert in it, to see that theirs (anti-gunners) is the most-dangerous idea; 2) i get a real strong sense of who-the-f-r-u? When I learn of some new ‘better-minded’ individual (of any stripe or position) comes along with the imposition of anything
If guns aren’t the problem terrorists?, then why is crime 1/5 of the rate and no mass shootings occur in countries that have strict gun laws?
The Nazi Rifle Association wants you to believe in lies. The NRA has proven many of you gun-slaves cannot think for yourselves.
Only idiots think that everyone being armed everywhere they go is appropriate. Sorry, but the general populations unalienable right to LIFE trumps your sociopathic paranoia all day long.
Why are these gun nuts deluding themselves into thinking that Europe, Australia and Japan are somehow 3rd world Orwellian nightmares despite stats and statistics proving that these countries are more safer than their gun-nut fantasy land.
Sara Tipton is nothing but a paid shrill for the Nazi Rifle Association and TTAG.
.Canada, Australia, most of Europe, Scandinavia and Japan have astonomically less gun violence. Countries like Mexico and Russia, where guns are easy to acquire, have gun crime at a level similar to the U.S. Simple.
Meanwhile, in the background, TTAG & the Nazi Rifle Association is smirking while the arms manufacturers’ products continue to fly of the shelves, and public paranoia is stoked one more time. Are we brave enough yet to change things?
Statistics show the more guns, the more gun violence. That’s true town by town, city by city, county by county, state by state, region by region, and country by country. The more guns, per capita, the more gun violence, per capita, and those statistics are very easy to find. So anyone who thinks “more guns” is the solution to gun violence is either a liar or a fool. And anyone who makes such a ridiculous proposal is part of the problem, not part of the solution.
If you ask an Nazi Rifle Association member about the cause of gun violace, they most likely will say it’s a mental illness problem. Well suicide is a mental illness and we see most states with permissive gun laws not only have a higher rate of gun violence, but also a higher rate of subsides. So, what’s the NRA solution? More guns! It’s like adding wood to a forest fire!
Top Ten State with the Highest Firearms Death Rate per 100,000:

2. Louisiana 19.3
3. Mississippi 17.8
4. Alabama 17.6
5. Arkansas 16.8
6. Montana 16.7
6. Wyoming 16.7
8. Oklahoma 16.5
9. New Mexico 15.5
10. Tennessee 15.4
In 2010, guns took the lives of 31,076 Americans in homicides, suicides and unintentional shootings. This is the equivalent of more than 85 deaths each day and more than three deaths each hour.
73,505 Americans were treated in hospital emergency departments for non-fatal gunshot wounds in 2010.
Firearms were the third-leading cause of injury-related deaths nationwide in 2010, following poisoning and motor vehicle accidents.
Between 1955 and 1975, the Vietnam War killed over 58,000 American soldiers – less than the number of civilians killed with guns in the U.S. in an average two-year period.
In the first seven years of the U.S.-Iraq War, over 4,400 American soldiers were killed. Almost as many civilians are killed with guns in the U.S., however, every seven weeks.
Over the past 30 years there have been more than 3 million gun deaths and accidents.
I hope the moronic gun sheeple see the problem. It is pretty obvious.
It makes me laugh how every moronic gun owner on here thinks thinks they are Chuck Norris and that they’d be cool, calm, and collected in one of these mass killing scenarios, would do some crazy barrel-roll maneuver and blow the bad guy away without taking a scratch themselves. They have no idea what it’s like to be in a gunfight. Ask any cop or military serviceman and they will enlighten you on the probability that a civilian could stop any of these wackos from killing people. Hint: it’s very very low
Willy is a hit and run troll. I could respond to his Bloomberg talking points with real facts, but what is the point. He won’t read them.
Do you have any neurons that survived infancy?
Logic and math is not your strong suit. Stick to something you are probably good at … drooling in the corner fantasizing about being a grown-up.
You are so far out of your league, man…it is nothing short of funny to watch you try to act like you are intelligent.
“I hope the moronic gun sheeple see the problem. It is pretty obvious.”
I have an idea. How about you try your little experiment somewhere, like the U.S. Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico? They’re islands, should be an easy control, yes?
Boom, there’s number one!
I’ll seen the first donation the NRA, earmarked with your name, today. And, I’ll buy some ammo in your honor.
Good job supporting the gun lobby, Willie. We couldn’t be prouder.
“If guns aren’t the problem terrorists?, then why is crime 1/5 of the rate and no mass shootings occur in countries that have strict gun laws?”
Suggesting gun ownership levels are the only differences between countries is laughable.
No mass shootings in countries with strict gun laws? Sure you want to stay with that answer?
Norway, not the USA is the world leader in deaths by mass shootings. Per capita their rate is 1.94 victims per 100,000. Norway is followed by Finland at 0.78 and Switzerland at 0.40.
The USA is in 4th place with 0.31 per 100,000
And that’s not including terrorism-related mass-shootings like charlie hebdo..
Should that be “about to give the antis a DOSE of that truth”?
Much to Ms. Tipton’s point, Willy is probably doing a great job selling additional firearms. The mere thought that window-licking idiocy like his may eventually sway public policy is a great motivator. That, and buying a firearm is in and of itself an act of defiance.
Little Willie has just about convinced me… I really need to get another nice CZ, at least one more Glock (along with conversion barrels), a Beretta, and an AR in .50 Beowulf. Accompanied by lots of ammo. Thank you Little Willie for your persuasive arguments!
Responsible gun owners = less crime
Switzerland has it right. The gun-loving Swiss are not about to lay down their arms. Guns are ubiquitous in this neutral nation, with sharpshooting considered a fun and wholesome recreational activity for people of all ages.
The Swiss are very serious not only about their right to own weapons but also to carry them around in public. Because of this general acceptance and even pride in gun ownership, nobody bats an eye at the sight of a civilian riding a bus, bike or motorcycle to the shooting range, with a rifle slung across the shoulder. Switzerland was at risk of being invaded by Germany during World War II but was spared, historians say, because every Swiss man was armed and trained to shoot.
Despite the prevalence of guns, the violent crime rate is low: government figures show about 0.5 gun homicides per 100,000 inhabitants in 2010. The U.S rate in the same year was about five firearm killings per 100,000 people, according to a 2011 U.N. report.
Our higher statistics are not because of gun ownership, but because of the inner-city culture, the drug epidemic and ignored mental health issues in our country. To lower our gun deaths, these are the issues that have to be seriously addressed.
John Lott, economist and gun-rights advocate, has studied mass shootings and reports that, with just one exception – the attack on U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson, Arizona, in 2011 – every public shooting since 1950 in the U.S. in which more than three people have been killed has taken place where citizens are not allowed to carry guns.
The deaths at Sandy Hook Elementary, Columbine, Virginia Tech, the Century 16 movie theater in Colorado, and most recently the Church killing in Charleston, South Carolina (among others) all took place in gun-free zones. The murderers, while deranged and deeply disturbed, are not dumb. They shoot up schools, universities, malls and public places where their victims cannot shoot back.
In 1982, Kennesaw, Georgia, passed a law requiring all households to have a gun-burglaries dropped by 89 percent. In Texas, murder rates fell 50 percent faster than the national average in the year after their concealed carry law passed. Rape rates fell 93 percent faster in the first year after enactment, and 500 percent faster in the second. Assaults fell 250 percent faster in the second year. The crime rate has dropped in all states with similar concealed carry laws.
This is the exact opposite conclusion of Democrat lawmakers who want to register Americans for seemingly innocuous “background checks.” Americans know better and can sniff the gun-grabbing agenda a mile away.
Eliminating or restricting firearms for public self defense doesn’t make our citizens safer; it makes them targets. Firearms possession and its potential threat for criminals and other predators deter property crime, violent crime, and yes…even tyrannical government.
Donna Emerson lives in Montgomery. She is a mother and a grandmother, retired from Procter & Gamble, and was a Republican precinct executive in Symmes Township for two terms.
OBW- They have full automatic weapons also.
Hitler actually demanded a battle plan from OKW (OberKommand Wermacht) for the invasion of Switerland. The OKW reply was that, due to an armed citizenry and the extreme alpine terrain, they expected casualties to be 100%.
