kansas.com reports that the Topeka, Kansas City Council rejected a move to ban openly carried firearms—despite threats of gang violence. “Supporters of the ban, including Police Chief Ron Miller and assistant city attorney Kyle Smith – a former agent with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation – told council members they had the right to regulate ownership and use of guns in the city . . . At previous hearings, Smith warned council members that if they don’t change the rules, gang members could openly carry firearms in neighborhoods to intimidate residents. He said police are put into tough situations when they see someone carrying a handgun or scoped rifle in public. ‘They have no right to carry a loaded gun in an urban community,’ Smith said Tuesday.” Au contraire. Not only do they have that right, but they still have that right.
