President-Elect Trump announces his plan to lower crime, among it a proposal for national reciprocity.

In a decisive message released this weekend, President-elect Donald Trump reaffirmed his commitment to protecting Second Amendment rights, announcing his intent to implement national concealed carry reciprocity once he takes office. This proposed legislation would require all 50 states to recognize concealed carry permits issued by any individual state, enabling gun owners to carry firearms legally across state lines without fearing discrepancies in local regulations.

Trump addressed the nation with a promise to uphold the right to self-defense, stating, “I will protect the right of self-defense wherever it is under siege, and I will sign concealed carry reciprocity. Your Second Amendment does not end at the state line.”

The announcement quickly gained traction, with the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., a diehard hunter and shooter, enthusiastically sharing his father’s message on social media, writing, “Boom! My father just announced concealed carry reciprocity. The Second Amendment will stay and remain protected.”

This policy has long been part of Trump’s platform. Since his 2015 campaign, he has voiced support for a nationwide reciprocity measure, arguing that if a driver’s license can be universally recognized, so too should a concealed carry permit, which he describes as a “right, not a privilege.” During his 2020 campaign, he reiterated his stance, expressing readiness to sign a national reciprocity act if brought to his desk.

For gun owners and Second Amendment advocates, Trump’s pledge represents a significant step in ensuring that state borders do not interfere with their rights to self-defense. Many argue that reciprocity would eliminate unnecessary bureaucratic barriers, allowing law-abiding citizens to exercise their right to carry consistently across the country, and also help avoid ensnaring them in unwitting legal blunders because of different laws that follow no consistent standard from state to state.

As Trump prepares to take office, his announcement on reciprocity underscores a commitment to preserving gun rights nationwide, promising a potentially significant shift in the landscape of Second Amendment protections, a sea change from the current administration in the White House. While this is great news for gun owners, don’t expect national reciprocity to become the law of the land easily. Democratic state’s attorneys and anti-gun groups are already gearing up to fight every action Trump proposes to take even without knowing everything he plans to push legislatively. Expect the courts to become a rife battleground over gun laws for the next four years. That much will likely not change in the political landscape for the foreseeable future.

Below is Donald Trump’s entire statement shared on his website at DonaldJTrump.com.

  1. Well, gee, since the inherent RIGHT of self-defense was protected from government f*ckery by the 2A, how . . . Constitutional of him to endorse our inherent rights!! Yes, I voted for DJT, because he was obviously better than the god-awful DEI mess that was Kamal-toe to Ho, but that doesn’t mean I think DJT is some great liberty-loving reincarnation of the Founders. He was, in the horseracing parlance, “the best of a poor field”. He sucks, but slightly less loudly than the others.

National CC reciprocity is simply a logical necessity . . . unless you Leftist idiots want to start getting a new driver’s license every time you cross a state border. I know intellectual consistency is beyond your (EXTREMELY limited) capabilities, but could you perhaps at least FLIRT with some basic common sense???

That was a stupid question, wasn’t it? “Common sense”, on the Left, is more rare than unicorns.

“If you don’t like abortions, don’t get one!” OK, dipsh*t, if you don’t like guns, don’t carry one. Problem solved.

    • lampbulb…RE: “Yes, I voted for DJT, because he was obviously better than the god-awful DEI mess that was Kamal-toe to Ho, but”

Make no mistake about it…When team cackles pandered to fudds they had the yes-better-but crowd in mind.

          • Lol aww you can’t logic past your previous butthurt got it. Good luck toots not going to be much of relevance for you with Trump elected.

          • McConnell is on his way out and underhanded RINOs are cooking the books for another RINO to take his place, vote may be on Wed. Out of the 3 candidates public support is for Rick Scott of FL, the other two have democRat support…email your senators, lots more info…

            • “public support is for Rick Scott“

Now there’s a guy that knows his way around fraud, excellent Republican leadership material:

“During his tenure as chief executive, the company defrauded Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal programs. The Department of Justice won 14 felony convictions against the company, which was fined $1.7 billion in what was at the time the largest healthcare fraud settlement in U.S. history.“

I’m sure seniors’ Medicare and Medicaid will be safe in his hands, yes sir!

              • Considering how close to fiscal insolvency they are with decades of mismanagement I doubt he could do worse and lol to the fraud connection let me know when it catches up with Phizer and all those bought and paid for democrats and neocons. Much like Trump not perfect but best we are going to have to work with. For more interesting news I will need to vote again in a special election because Stefanik will be dealing with the crooked shit birds at the UN so have fun spinning that one as there are all sorts of fun ways they can be told how to fuck off that have been a long time coming.

            • Dim Debbie doesn’t get that Redflag Rick is just as bad as Kornhole.

As a Floridian, we are gonna primary that Fudd out soon, but not soon enough to protect our 2A from these disastrous Senate leadership mistakes. As bad as Cocaine Mitch and Safer Communities Act Cornyn.

      • “even a less than perfect law will demonstrate that widespread carry makes us safer.”

Would apprecate a clarification of the term “safer”. Just as Dims cannot prove that gun control laws make the public safer, POTG cannot prove that owning and carrying firearms makes us “safer”; too many variables, either way.

However, I think it is pretty clear that owning and carrying a firearm defiitively provides the tool(s) to fight against an armed attacker.

  2. i was at the barnes and noble earlier and i asked the clerk if they had donald trump’s new book on how to deport illegal immigrants. she immediately said to me, “get the f*ck out of here and don’t come back.” i said, “yes, that’s the one. do you have it in paperback?”

  3. In related news headline…. “Governor Kathy Hochul’s Makeup Cracks Upon Hearing Of National Concealed Carry Reciprocity, And Goes Into Super Menopause.”

    • Yay more retarded laws to overturn. Thankfully we are still able to fight them with lawyers in ways that make the rest of the country better.

      • And get hit with that investigation and fine from Encon? No way, besides her replacement is even more commie/less competent.

  4. I am not getting an ILL annoy CCL just for reciprocity. Already have constitutional carry a scant mile east. THAT’S what’s NEEDED!

    • “Already have constitutional carry a scant mile east. THAT’S what’s NEEDED!”

2A already provides constitutional carry. How can we expect mere/simple, majority-based legislation to be more effective?

  5. I wanna see those studies the anti-gun had removed from the CDC web site put back on the CDC web site, the ones about the number of DGU.

    • “I wanna see those studies the anti-gun had removed from the CDC web site put back on the CDC web site, the ones about the number of DGU.”

Excellent early test of Trump’s willingness to protect us from govt attempts to disarm the populace.

  6. “I will sign concealed carry reciprocity“

Donald Trump, king of the one-liners!

While I would’ve liked to have seen Kamala Harris elected, I must admit the entertainment value of a second Trump term is priceless!

          • What part of your comment is sarcasm?

Trying to decide if we need to notify law enforcement on him.

I mean, if he’s really dangerous, you know.

Nope. Actually, I’m reasonably certain I have a much higher clearance than you.

              Please do.

    • I’m glad you cleared that up, you know, I wasn’t sure and all I had to go on was 814 separate instances of you absolutely sperging out about Donald Trump in any and all situations.

  7. Reciprocity is all well and fine. Hopefully the Republican Party with a new Senate leader will target IL and take The Land of Lincoln away from the democRat Party. It is time for such a disgrace to be rectified. Same holds true for other blue states buried under demoCrap.

    Happy Veteran’s Day! 🫡

    • It’s not likely to happen with the options being Thune, Cornyn, and Scott.

Yes, I voted for Scott, but he supports Red Flag laws. But they’re all three bad choices. I’d rather have Larry, Curly, or Moe. Even Shemp!

  8. Lets repeal that Bipartisan Safer Community Act abortion – now that we are gonna have both the senate and house (most likely).

    • In the house race, presently..

17 races left to be called.

Republicans at 214, need 4 more seats for house majority control
Democrats at 204, need 14 more seats for house majority control

the magic number is 218 seats for house majority control

      • We need a national “pencils down” cutoff for counting ballots.

Are they waiting for calculators in those states?

      • Breitbart this evening says
“Republicans were projected to have secured a 218-209 majority.” Too dang slim a margin.

All those states that voted Trump and thru out prog Senators voted demtard reps (but it took a week)? Suuuure nothing to see here.

    • While I agree with you- I NEED reciprocity. I work in NJ, drive through Philly which has a carjacking trend going on. NJ will and does prosecute the odd Pennsylvanian that gets caught carrying. Now I can defend myself, not just in Jersey, but when I drive through Philly.

SBR, suppressors, good , great, but not an everyday thing.

  9. Not going to happen. Not enough senators to invoke cloture after a Democrat filibuster, which requires 60 votes. Currently there will be 52 Republican senators, maybe a couple more, but not 60, and finding 6 or more votes is essentially impossible, just as it was during Trump’s first term.

    • It can be done the same way the Affordable Care Act was passed, the reconciliation process since it doesn’t add to the deficit and it is revenue neutral.

      • No, Officer Bill, it cannot. The reconciliation process is for taxes, spending, and the debt limit. Extraneous bills, such as national reciprocity, could be objected to by any senator on a point of order, and thus subject to the 60 vote requirement.

    • So you’re saying, that yet again, when all is said and done, more will be said than done?
It’s deja vu all over again.

    • 52 Senators is sufficient to amend/delete any Senate rule, for anything. Senate rules are not enshrined in the Constitution.

  10. This is huge y’all. Federal protection for us normal people when we have to visit gun-unfriendly locals.

  11. oh c’mon, this is nothing. he says he’ll sign it IF it gets to his desk. he’s not going to do a thing about it. feckless McConnell could have pushed it through last time. trump is only on our side when it suits him

    • You do realize that is more than one order of magnitude in improvement for just an overwhelming majority of politicians right?

    • McConnell will not be the majority leader this time around. Then again, I’m not sure how he’d have pushed it through with as many votes as were needed and Schumer standing in the way. He was able to keep the coalition in line the last time around.

      • McConnell is a useless turd (corrupt leftover Rockefeller Rep) and so are his sycophants Thune and Cornyn. NOT conservatives and they hate Trump/backstabbers.

  12. Close but no cigar.
    Why?
    A permit for concealed carry.
Your gun rights don’t stop at state lines if you criminal carry though. I’ve never met a thug that said, ” Oh my, we are entering New Jersey, golly I hope we can find a gun by back before we get caught breaking the law. I’ll rape maim burn and rob but when it comes to breaking a gun law that’s where I draw the line”

    • The usefulness of permits is separating, more often than not, the good guys from the bad guys. Although that won’t help before an incident, it will help a lot afterward unless you enjoy lockup for a few days. Or weeks.

  13. If any of you have actually driven across the country carrying, you’d know what a total cluster fuck it is carrying a weapon. It’s totally idiotic to have to pull over BEFORE entering a state, get your gat and lock it up in a gun box away from you. Then after getting through the state, reverse the procedure. What people don’t comprehend in that bucket of mush between their ears is how unsafe it is to be in a strange place, possibly outside your car fooling around with your gun. That in itself is a risk.

In Yuma, if you drive down a road, you can suddenly find yourself in California. I hold an AZ, WA and Idaho Enhanced gun permits and it’s idiotic that none are valid in Oregon and California. The patchwork of laws is gigantically stupid.

    • Oregon will mail one to you. California is just coming out of the stone age. If I recall correctly, a recent trial court decision requires the State to issue to nonresidents. I would not be surprised it that is appealed–as are most every victory–but you never know.

    • “If any of you have actually driven across the country carrying, you’d know what a total cluster fuck it is carrying a weapon.”

One might actually say suck is by design of the founders. Originally, the national constitution was intended to only restrict the power of the US Government The individual power of the then States was transferred, in some instances, to the Govt. The States did not consider that they would surrender all State power to the central committee.

So, bound only by their own State constitutions, the States were free to have conflicting laws between them, each state being an option for the citizenry to evaluate and move to, or not.

  14. 29 States do not require a permit. I reside in one of them. Will I be required to get a permit for ‘National Reciprocity’ travel purposes? Or will my proof of residence (eg. drivers license, etc.) in a Permitless Carry State be sufficient?

Only one of many questions that have yet to be answered.

    • gunny,

Can’t be answered, yet. Depends on what shape the legislation (or EO) takes. Personally, I hope we do this through legislation, rather than EO, ’cause I hate EOs from another lifetime, but if Trump is making public announcements about it, I have to assume he’s willing to go to an EO if necessary. What the details of either would look like, no one can say. I would HOPE that the authors/sponsors of legislation, or Trump and staff (if he has to go the EO route) would be smart enough to include proof of residence in a “no permit required” state being sufficient, one can never go wrong underestimating the intelligence of legislators.

    • Most constitutional carry states still offer a permit for those who carry across state lines. I have a permit from my own CC state for this reason, as I live 10 minutes from the state line. The brass ring is constitutional carry nationwide, but reciprocity of permits would be a good start and a big 2A win.

(my note: NY gun laws only work on the law abiding to create more defenseless prey for the criminal types – for every six hours the average person in NYC spends in public view they are targeted at least 12 times by criminal elements as a potential victim of a violent crime, the potential victims just don’t know it.)

  19. In the house race, presently..

16 races left to be called.

Republicans at 214, need 4 more seats for house majority control
Democrats at 205, need 13 more seats for house majority control

The magic number is 218 seats for house majority control

Republicans are now projected to have secured the 4 seats they needed to give them 218. But although projected, these have not yet been called so time will tell. Republicans lead in 8 of the uncalled races.

In one race its republican against republican, no dem contender – that one is a win either way for republicans so one could say that the republican seats presently is 215 and they only really need 3 more to take house majority.

In another race, and possibly one more, presently its looking like there are not enough dem votes left to overcome the republican lead but the count continues so time will tell.

In one race (Maine 2nd – with a ranked voting system) the republican and dem – neither candidate has a majority and its really close. But that one is awaiting ranked choice results and the ranking will decide the winner but a full recount has been requested and that will not begin until after more than 12,000 votes have been reallocated to determine a majority. So this race result is going to take longer.

California 13th – the republican has over 50% of the vote and is projected to win that one.

California 22nd – the republican has over 50% of the vote and is projected to win that one.

California 41st – the republican has over 50% of the vote and is projected to win that one.

California 45th – the republican has over 50% of the vote and is projected to win that one.

Alaska at large – the republican leads the democrat by 4 points so the republican will probably take that one.

Arizona 6th – the republican leads the democrat by 1.3 points and its gonna be close.

    • note for above: Since in one race its republican against republican, no dem contender – that one is a win either way for republicans … any three of the remaining races not counting that one will give republicans majority control of the house.

      • “any three of the remaining races not counting that one will give republicans majority control of the house.”

The type of Republicrat matters, the party affiliation alone is not informative, or conclusive.

      • “Trump has picked Kristi Noem to serve as his Homeland security secretary“

        Hallelujah, it’s Comedy Christmas!

I guess Trump wants to make his claims “they’re killing the dogs and cats” real, he picked someone who actually did kill the dog.

          • Miner49er is just upset that an actual woman got selected. He was so hoping that Kamala would put a trans-man imagining they are a woman in that position so he could identify more closely.

In the United States More than 359,000 dogs were killed (euthanized) in 2023. Did ya complain about those Miner49er?

South Dakota law states that dogs who attack and/or kill can be put down. Given that the dog had shown aggressive behavior toward people by biting them, Kristi Noem followed the law and put the dog down herself.

What was she to do? The dog could not stay around the kids and others, it was too big of a risk. Let it linger for a while to be killed anyway by being euthanized?

I would have put the dog down too. The dog was a danger to others, to family, it was a danger to Noem’s kids at the time.

This is a joke to you Miner49er, you think its funny that Noem did what was necessary to keep an aggressive dog from attacking someone, kinda like Kamala thought her possibly needing to shoot a home invader was a joke.

            • The Governor shot the dog because she was angry and embarrassed, she took an untrained bird dog around her neighbor’s chickens and through inattention allowed the dog to kill the chickens.
She was personally responsible for the situation but it was the dog that suffered.

A perspective from an actual expert:

“Payton, who is a delegate to the American Kennel Club and lives in Bakersfield, California, said the situation was a mess from beginning to end.

“That was a puppy that had no experience, obviously no training,” she said. “If you know a minuscule amount about a bird dog, you don’t take a 14 month old out with trained adult dogs and expect them to perform. That’s not how it works.”

The club itself said puppies learn best by hunting one-to-one with their owners, not with other dogs.

When problems arose she should have called the breeder, Payton said, or contacted rescue organizations that find new homes for the breed.

Among those groups is the National German Wirehaired Pointer Rescue, which called on Noem in a Facebook post to take accountability for her “horrific decision” and to educate the public that there are more humane solutions.

“Sporting breeds are bred with bird/hunting instincts but it takes training and effort to have a working field dog,” the group’s Board of Directors wrote in the post.

Payton described Cricket as nothing more than “a baby,” saying the breed isn’t physically mature until it is 2 years old and not fully trained it’s 3- to 5-years old.

“This was a person that I had thought was a pretty good lady up until now,” she said. “She was somebody that I would have voted for. But I think she may have shot herself in the foot.”

She also shot a goat because it smelled bad and would chase her kids, in other words, she shot a goat for being a goat.

Signal sent, signal received, cruelty is the message.

              • the reason happend like I wrote, and its been verified. and although it was supose to be a bird dog, it makes no difference. an aggressive biting dog is an aggressive biting dog, sometimes dogs just turn out that way and it wasn’t going to change… dogs that start out biting and aggressive do not grow out if it.

        • Was that a (lame) attempt at a comment, or did someone fart online???? MajorLiar, since I am an empathetic and caring person, I HOPE you are never in a situation where emergency euthanasia is necessary for an animal (such as, for example, a trail horse with a broken leg, MILES from the nearest road – which I have actually had to deal with, so, once again, go suck start a shotgun). I am NOT a fan of “bullet euthanasia” if there are better, more reliable methods available, and I will not comment on Kristi Noem’s comment, since I wasn’t there and don’t know the situation, but it might interest you to know that it is a not-uncommon practice among serious dog breeders/trainers to euthanize dogs that show proclivities to kill livestock (for reasons that SHOULD be obvious, even to an idiot like you). Just sayin’, you quarter-wit, inbred, Leftist/fascist moron. Your Leftist tears were sweet on the night of the 5th, you pathetic @$$clown.

    • RCP is showing 219 in House for GOP this morning
Not actually called but highly unlikely to go to dems….pending arrival of stuffed ballot boxes.

      • “…pending arrival of stuffed ballot boxes.”

There’s a box truck heading out of Jersey as I type…given his leftist penchant for straw men, miner’s likely driving.

  20. I remember when states where forced to recognize the “marriage” of homosexuals. That certainly should not have occurred. Concealed carry reciprocity should have been the law of the land from the start.

    • Paul,

So, just to be clear, if a blue state, such as KKKalifornia, legalizes gay marriage, is it your position that that marriage would not be legal in all 49 other states??? I mean, in a post asking (it seems) for intellectual consistency, you might want to think about that. Personally, I don’t think marriage, of any description, is an of the gummint’s damn business – it’s between the parties, their church (if they have one), and their culture. I don’t GAF what you choose to do, so long as you don’t do it in the road and scare the horses.

  21. Full Faith & Credit Clause of the U.S. Constitution has been a thing for a few hundred+ years now.

    • Whereas the Full Faith and Credit Clause’s first sentence mandates that “Full Faith and Credit … be given in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State,” its second sentence authorizes Congress to “prescribe . . . the Effect” of “such Acts, Records, and Proceedings.”

But the problem with using that is the framers’ reasons for authorizing Congress to specify the effect of those acts and proceedings are unclear. For the 1st and 2A and others it was clear because they left us their intent in the federal papers and their own personal writings, but they really didn’t do that with the Full Faith and Credit Clause. So doing it that way would involve years of legal battles.

If its really got to be permits instead of constitutional carry….The ‘more easy’ route to take is enact a law that says something to the effect of “firearms permits issued in any state will be valid for possession and carry of firearms in any state.” and it becomes ‘law of the land’ which also happens to be in line with the framers intent for the 2A because in their written intents they clearly made the 2A a right of the people not subject to government control. So a law stating to that effect would simply be a re-stating of what the founders intended (which was really ‘un-permitted’ ownership, use, and carry – or, in other words Constitutional carry).

(yes, I know its more complicated than this.)

  22. Mark N,
Permits separate the good guys from the bad guys.
So your one of the Second Amendment, but
The Right not the government’s permission to bear arms shall not be infringed.

  23. As so often proclaimed, “The Second Amendment” is national reciprocity. Mere legislation cannot accomplish what the Constitution fails to achieve.

We are at the place where the best we can expect is the chaos of the national mindset (as in voting) reels back and forth between left and right; Obama was correct that the arc of history is tyranny, tyranny he heartily endorsed.

  24. I remember when he had the Senate, House, and Presidency last time and this didn’t pass.

So I’m not hopefully it passes this time around either.

    • “I remember when he had the Senate, House, and Presidency last time… “

Brother, you must remember to take your conservative historical amnesia pill, you’ll be much… happier.

      • MajorLiar,

Yeah, we definitely shouldn’t remember how he was President for four years and WASN’T a fascist dictator, because remembering that would make you and your Leftist/fascist ilk look like the hysterical morons you are.

    • It didn’t pass last time because it wasn’t an agenda item, and the legal landscape for the 2A was different then too and that didn’t help any.

  25. We would be better off with the 2A version of Obergefell to establish judicial expansion of the Bruen decision as settled law . Otherwise we allow the individual states to continue to do their ” George Wallace in the schoolhouse door ” impressions with impunity .
