Once upon a time, TTAG was a part of the GunUp blog network. But sometimes partners need to take a little break from each other and so we went our separate ways about a year and a half ago. The good news is the break is over. We’re tanned, rested and ready to move back in with GunUp…for the sake of the children. And our readers. GunUp’s firearms industry strength will allow TTAG to increase its revenue, meaning better, happier writers. And that will translate into more and better content for you, our readers. We’re glad to be back with GunUp and look forward to a long and fruitful partnership. Press release after the jump . . .

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, or something like that! Congratulations and Best of all success to ya’ll (youz, you) both!
Does this mean I won’t be redirected to the google play store 6 times while reading one article anymore? More money sounds good just use it to bring back Matt in Fl.
Second.
Does this mean there will be fewer of those crappy Google Play popups? Horribly laggy ad hosts? Bunches of reloads? Redirections?
^This
Yes.
Will my keyboard start working normally again (instead of intermittently going dead while ads load and refresh, like it’s doing now)?
Only if you stop spewing beverages on it.
Beverages aren’t the problem, and so far I have restrained myself from using a hammer on the damn thing. It’s really not the keyboard itself, I gather it’s interference from the scripts running the ads or some such.
This is honestly the first complaint like that we’ve seen. You may have something else going on.
@ Dan–Well, I’ve seen one other poster describe the same thing, keyboard only works on intermittent strokes–maybe first, maybe second, maybe third, maybe fifth, not consistent. It’s not happening just now, BTW. Unfortunately, I’m a tech atavism, so I’m not exactly sure what the deal is, but it mostly happens to me here. I post at a news forum sometimes, lucianne.com, it was terrible there for awhile and I have pretty much quit trying to post there, even tho the problem seems to have abated. Just for illustrative purposes, it doesn’t happen when I’m writing e-mails or entering data into spreadsheets at work or anything like that, so it’s not the actual keyboard.
Tell me TTAG is keeping it’s URL. I would hate to remember a different site.
We’re not going anywhere.
Dan, I’ll also third the notion on the ultra-lagging keyboard. It’s intermittent but it does happen.
Thanks for getting a contract with quality advertising. Now I don’t have to worry about crappy google ads…
We’ve all seen the reviews on some online gun mags that hardly say anything bad about any major product, presumably because those manufacturers advertise with them. One of the great things about TTAG is that they seem to be very, very honest and “on the nose” with their reviews. I hope that does not change.
Yes! I’ve bought some stuff reviewed here. It was good knowing the drawbacks as well as benefits. That’s real value-added.
It’s called The Truth About Guns. That’s who we are. That what we tell. And that ain’t gonna change.
I’ve put in place some policies that should keep the ads and the reviews completely separate. That was my biggest concern as well, and I will work to keep everyone honest.
Amen!
“the services they provide brands in the firearms industry”
Like selling reviews?
lol too many people using adblock software! quick lets jump on the sponsored content band wagon! maybe we can trick em into looking at our ads!
I’m fairly certain that sponsored content will continue to be obviously marked, as it currently is.
It’s probably not too hard to write a Greasemonkey script to take care of sponsored content as well…
i appreciate that you guys mark it clearly. however a lot of sites do not(Gizmodo etc.) and i expect with the popularity of this type of advertising that the lines between sponsored content and normal news is gonna get blurry.
Not here it won’t. We will always prominently mark posts as sponsored content, just as we do now.
Thanks Dan,
I have no problems with TTAG making money. More money means more paid good writing. Means more good content, means more readers. A virtuous circle.
I have no problems with ads, either. Tough to monetize a site otherwise, without subscriptions.
If the ads get so intrusive that they slow down the site loading, I just block them.
Where the conflict of interest is explained, ie “sponsored content”, then it seems like you have covered that concern, better than most. And if the content is well written, timely, relevant than its likely to make me a buyer.
Gunup’s site is pretty “busy” with flash and so forth, which I notice slows down loading. I someone is on a poor connection, or running other tasks, I can see how that would manifest in slow response to the keyboard.
I am not a tech, so I defer to others, but for GUNUP, I would only point out that other sites- USATODAY comes to mind- where the lights and bells and whistles start to get in the way of loading content, just lead me to just give up and dont go back. If I want entertainment, I will sign on to my kids XBOX…
Call me old school- I prefer to read, rather than be entertained by moving pictures and fancy graphics. You can tell a good story with words and a few pictures- look at Nicks reviews, for example.
Some of the most popular long-time blogs KISS – Drudge, Instapundit, etc.
They can have my adblock when they rip it from my cold dead keyboard!
I actually don’t use adblock, but wanted to say that. I’ll do anything for a laugh. Just ask my ex wife and former friends and relatives.
Ok for those who are tired of pop up!! such here is how to have a much better browser experience.
I have been running this for 2 years now and i keep hearing you guys complain about pops, again. still…
while i keep running circles around you lol.
this is found at LRC and to Protect Your Personal Information From Being Revealed by Your Browser
JUST FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS, if your not running firefox might take a bit more than 10-15 min
^^^^^^OMG I look like a drunk sailor typing up there ^^^^^^ well hell that don’t help my cred at all now does it? wow I just suck! sorry. but at least i got the links to work right lol
Wow now I get bouncing into Google play. It has been really annoying to someone who spends way too much time on TTAG. And is not far from being a luddite. Hey whatever keeps the lights on 🙂
I finally changed some notification settings and the redirects to the App Store and google pop ups have stopped.
My blood pressure is decreasing…
Oh, and congrats TTAG. Keep up the great work.
