Thanks to all of you who responded to my request for a Remington 870 to testĀ Advanced Ballistic Concepts’ Multi-Impact shotgun ammo. That shout-out delivered first contact with ammo tester ShootingTheBull410, who’s now become a regular TTAG contributor. It also brought us a good half dozen Austin-area readers with Remington 870’s at the ready. So I thought, well, what could be more fun than a line of 870 shooters all firing at the same time, maybe slow-walking towards a target? And so TTAG’s holding an 870-fest at Best of the West range in Liberty Hill, Texas on Sunday, November 10, from 9am to maybe 1pm. If you’d like to attend please ping [email protected] with subject line “870 Fest”. Range fees are on us, ammo’s on you and bring whatever targets you like (safety first, must clean up afterwards). We can’t reserve a bay at BoTW and Sundays are their most popular day so be prepared to sit and schmooze for a spell. Results posted here, obvs.

  1. Sounds like fun, I wish I was not all the way in Mich. Will the range let you shoot fruit??? 00 buck and fruit= big smiles.

  2. Has anyone else thought of this round for anti-drone work? Specifically the helicopter like low altitude drones like the ones PETA are advertising. Only when the drones present a clear and present danger to the life or limb of someone of course.

    • I got a reply back from PETA (people eating tasty animals, sorry JWM), the range on their drone is 165 feet according to them. What a worthless piece of junk.
I’m blessed with a good size chunk of prime real estate in Oregon and my lot is 220 feet on the long end. Their crud won’t even work on my own city lot.
      Good grief.

      • With such a pathetic range I don’t think I’d bother to shoot these down. Instead, invest in a radio signal direction finder and simply use it to locate the offending party. Interfering with or harassing hunters is a crime in most places and trespass almost universally is, simply record the offenders while contacting police.

In fact if these drones enter widespread use (not happening here) there might be more sport in hunting hippies with a video camera than there is in whitetail with a rifle (Note: Do not eat the hippies! Recording deer is, however, acceptable.)

  3. Liberty Hill is close & this sounds like fun, but…it’s the first week of deer season, so no can do.
