What would the NYT do without guns to inveigh against? . . . Ban the Open Carry of Firearms
Plain and simple, public terror is not protected under the Constitution. That has been the case throughout history. And now is the time to look to that history and prohibit open carry, before the next Charlottesville.
Historically, lawmakers have deemed open carry a threat to public safety. Under English common law, a group of armed protesters constituted a riot, and some American colonies prohibited public carry specifically because it caused public terror.
During Reconstruction, the military governments overseeing much of the South responded to racially motivated terror (including the murder of dozens of freedmen and Republicans at the 1866 Louisiana Constitutional Convention) by prohibiting public carry either generally or at political gatherings and polling places.
Later, in 1886, a Supreme Court decision, Presser v. Illinois, upheld a law forbidding groups of men to “parade with arms in cities and towns unless authorized.” For states, such a law was “necessary to the public peace, safety and good order.”
Good that they consulted an expert . . . Why Nail Guns Make Disappointing Weapons, According To Ryan Reynolds
There are certain makeshift weapons that action movies have effectively adopted as go-to killing machines, and nail guns are some of the most common examples of that phenomenon. Factoring into awesome scenes in everything from Lethal Weapon 2 to Casino Royale, the handyman tool has become a fixture on the silver screen. However, they are apparently not nearly as effective or efficient as you would think, as Ryan Reynolds recently told me during the press junket for The Hitman’s Bodyguard when I asked him about the film’s showstopper tool shop fight. The actor explained:
“I actually fired one though, and it loses all of its velocity like three feet out. So if you fired it at somebody ten feet away, [the nail would] just sort of bounce off of them.”
Along those lines . . . Wisconsin man accidentally shoots himself in the heart with nail gun, then drives to the ER
A Wisconsin man had a scary brush with death after accidentally shooting himself in the heart with a framing nail.
Doug Bergeson was doing repair work on a fireplace in a home he’s building when he fired a nail gun before he was ready. The three and a half inch nail bounced off some wood and pierced his heart, ABC 11 reports.
“It didn’t really hurt. It just felt like it kind of stung me,” Bergeson told the outlet. “I felt OK. I wasn’t worried about the injury. I couldn’t feel any pressure or blood building up.”
Why let inconveniences like due process get in the way of the ABA’s anti-gun agenda? . . . ABA House backs adoption of gun violence restraining orders
A measure addressing gun violence won approval from the ABA House of Delegates on Tuesday, despite some opposition by those who raised due process issues.
Resolution 118B urges state and local governments to enact laws and regulations authorizing courts to issue gun violence restraining orders, including ex parte orders that don’t require the presence of the targeted person.
Those petitioning for a restraining order should provide documented evidence that a person poses a serious threat to himself or to others, according to the resolution. There should also be a verifiable procedure to ensure surrender of guns and ammunition pursuant to a restraining order, the resolution says.
Where else but Florida? . . . Delray man pulled fake AR-15 at McDonald’s when denied ice cream
A Delray Beach teen was arrestedMonday after pulling an AR-15 air-soft gun out of the trunk of his BMW after learning that a local McDonald could not serve him ice cream, according to a city police report.
Jerry Henry, 19, is facing a charge of improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon or a firearm after the confontation late Sunday at the restaurant, on Linton Boulevard just east of Interstate 95.
He and another man were ordering from the drive-thru window at about 11 p.m. when an McDonald’s employee told them that the machine wasn’t working and that he could not fill their order. Over a video camera inside the restaurant, the employee watched Henry retrieve the weapon from the trunk of the white BMW, according to the report.
The Tavor was especially designed for the IDF due its compact design that is ideal for CQB. As the IDF sharpened it’s skills with the Tavor it also made sure to give feedback and ask for improvements. The Tavor X95 rifle was born as a result. It has improved ergonomics along with improved accuracy and customization. Recently IWI released the X95 bullpup in 300 blackout, a caliber ideal for suppressed shooting.
Thanks to The Truth About Guns, we had the opportunity to test its capabilities out. Our verdict? you cannot shoot it without having a smile on your face. The rifle performs phenomenally with no malfunctions and almost no felt blowback while shooting suppressed.
Apparently the coat, hat and scarf in August didn’t tip anyone off, either . . . Gun-toting bank robber’s style is so laid-back bystanders don’t realise he’s walking away with thousands of pounds
A ‘calm’ crook is being hunted by police after carrying out six raids on banks and shops – and walking out with a sum total of around £20,000 so far.
Despite his laid-back style, he leaves his victims terrified by pointing a gun at them and asking to hand over the cash.
He’s was apparently so calm, in at least one raid, people at the counter next to him had absolutely no idea there was a robbery going on just feet away.
Veteran Lithia Springs High teacher shoots self at school; classes canceled
Early Thursday morning, a veteran Lithia Springs High School teacher walked to his classroom, pulled out a handgun and shot himself, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said.
Few details have been released.
However, officials said the teacher is stable, students are safe and the gun the teacher used has been secured. No one witnessed the shooting, which occurred before the start of the school day.
Classes were canceled and frantic parents scrambled to pick up their children from the school.
There’s no shortage of made members of the civilian disarmament industrial complex . . . With a Friend in the White House, the NRA Scrambles to Find Other Targets
Without a bogeyman in the White House to inveigh against, how does the gun lobby keep busy? That’s an urgent question for the National Rifle Association.
The NRA and its allies in the gun industry thrive on battling enemies, real and imagined. The Obama years saw rising firearm sales responding to NRA-stoked fears that the former president would clamp down on gun purchases. That Obama didn’t sign a single significant gun control measure mattered not one bit; his eight years in office were good times for the NRA and gun makers.
Now, though, with Donald Trump in the White House, the NRA has to train its sights elsewhere. The first sitting president since Ronald Reagan to address the group’s annual convention, Trump told the NRA faithful in April: “You are my friends, believe me.”
Yippee ki yay! Despite the Western theme, that’s the only gun you’re gonna see in a Victoria’s Secret hand. At least officially. . . Back in the saddle! Romee Strijd flashes her derriere in denim chaps as lingerie-clad Taylor Hill hugs a horse for racy cowboy-themed Victoria’s Secret shoot in Aspen
Gold plated AK Donald Trump’s, right ?
Stupid rapper is my bet!
“but you repeat yourself”
I never knew Slutty Cowgirl was a fashion statement.
Slutty Cowgirl with an ass you could iron a shirt on…
Just sayin’
Click bate, if her ass doesn’t support the RKBA, I don’t care to see it.
Just sayin’, there’s about a million ways that ass could be displayed more attractively. It’s almost impressive how they managed to make a perfect bare derriere nearly unappealing. Cutoff jeans or lingerie (or nothing); pick one, not both.
I wonder if she would be mad at me if she caught me staring at her ass?
I mean, how could she? And how could I not?
It’s game bait, you’re to touch then she has you fired and sues you.
Lookies only, no touchies without an invite.
Reminds me of TTAG from a few years ago.
Squats. She needs to do ’em.
Well it never goes out of style.
It’s been ungodly hot here in FL. So I don’t blame him…
Everybody’s aware of “the ice cream machine is broken ” story. You want ice cream or milkshake after 10 pm? Fugetaboutit!
“including the murder of dozens of freedmen and Republicans at the 1866 Louisiana Constitutional Convention”. So they failed to identify WHO committed the murders. I wonder why…
Democrats did the killing. A democrat founded the Ku Klux Klan. Funny that democrats have never apologized for either one of those “gifts” to mankind.
Slavery wasn’t always racist, a significant number of black freedmen owned slaves and more than a few slaves were quadroons or octaroons and much more white than black.. For that matter, the Nubian Dynasty in ancient Egypt was ruled by blacks and slavery was a big part of their culture, Nearly all peoples of the earth have kept slaves from time to time or been slaves from time to time..
Those were DINOS.
Yeah, right. You probably believe the “party switch” myth too.
Indentured servants in colonial America made up to 1/2 on immigrants, far out numbered African slaves, and were WASPs. Treatment was largely worse than African slaves who where an expensive longterm “business investment”. The progs washed this out of our American History LONG ago.
And the Republicans were started as a progressive, socialist party written of approvingly by Karl Marx. They counted the terrorist John Brown as one of their heroes.
One of the founding principles of the Republican party was free market labor being superior to all other forms of labor. This is a decidedly anti-socialist position.
There are still slaves in the US.
Those news stories of ‘stash houses’ with dozens of illegals are just the tip of the iceberg. Those illegals who aren’t ransomed go … where?
States with “sanctuary” cities. To work in sweat shops. Modern day slaves, right here in America.
Of course the Dems don’t care right now, because the blacks are more volatile and make better “friends.”
The Dems need victims, and those victims who make headlines are better than those who don’t.
Another inconvenient truth? African tribal chiefs and muslims sold blacks into slavery as far back as the Egyptians! Worse, those blacks didn’t even resist! No efforts to fight back, band together, retaliate, nothing! But why let that get in the way of their idiotology that only whites owned slaves! Outside of the Irish and Native Americans that were enslaved long before blacks, the first black slave was owned by a black! Yet nowhere do we hear of blacks suing blacks and muslims for slavery, demanding compensation, justice, apologies, or any of their other BS demands.
Yeah they successfully glaze over the point that open carry bans were to keep the freedmen from causing trouble. Oppression of minority freedom of speech, good argument basis for banning open carry right?
Maybe that brit bank robber is so calm cause he knows he has the only gun in miles.
It’s Britain. That’s normal Summer garb.
Didn’t that teacher know he could get in trouble for bringing a gun to school?
I thought that law would stop him cold…. No guns in schools and all that.
Maybe they need to re-write it in all caps or add some exclamation points?
It didn’t work to keep that gun out of school is all I can say.
Power tools generally make poorer weapons in real life than they do on TV. However, out of all them, which is the most effective? If there was a battery powered chainsaw, I suppose that’d be pretty effective, for awhile.
Battery powered chainsaws are a real thing.
Battery powered 3/8 impact gun with 6 inch long 1/2 drill bit. Chews right through flesh in the time it takes to say SHIT!
(looks back over the past few days news stories) mmmm, nope. Don’t see any stories of armed protesters shooting anyone. Am I missing something?
And another thing: if the people protesting the imminent destruction of a war memorial had not had armed folks watching out for them, would their grievances have gotten any attention? We’ll never know, because a bunch of dingbats showed up (on both sides) and made the whole spectacle into a race matter rather than being about keeping a memorial in place; a memorial erected to commemorate the sacrifices of many Americans. That part of the story simply got swept away, didn’t it?
Robert E Lee was a great general, and a gracious loser. But I thought Trump didn’t like people who got captured.
You left out a few details, so I filled in the blanks on some of the terms you used:
“war memorial” – a war to preserve the right of one group of people to treat another group of people as property, memorialized by the losing side.
“armed folks watching out for them” – racists with body armor and modern sporting rifles.
“dingbats” – people who want to go back to the days when killing and/or owning people who were not “white” was acceptable, and people who don’t.
“on both sides” – true enough, but only one side killed anybody, and only one side would like to go back to enslaving people and/or killing the undesirables (including me).
“race matter” – it started as race matter, and ended as a race matter.
“sacrifices of many Americans” – senseless deaths of thousands of misguided Confederates over a lost cause.
You are by far one of the most misinformed people I have ever encountered.
Please be more specific. I’m a scientist. In God We Trust, All Others Provide Data.
The technical term is “progtard troll:.
Soros crew pays them per post. Great deal they can do from mommies basement while still in the footie jammies. Not a great way to payoff their $100k in Obumer student loans for the underwater lesbian basketweaving degree though.
Sorry, none of the above. I’m a Software Engineer making six figures. Only own one gun right now, a Bersa Thunder 380, but I’m lusting after a Savage MSR 15 Patrol.
Politically, I’m a left leaning libertarian gun enthusiast. I grew up shooting and hunting. I don’t hunt anymore, not because I’m opposed, but because the fun is over when you pull the trigger, and then it’s just hard work. I still love perforating paper perpetrators though.
Idaho,
That’s the narrative you are being told anyway. If you look at what the other side is all about with honest eyes, you would have answered differently.
There was a third group, which Heather was part of. Locals who sincerely wanted to make a statement that racism wasn’t appreciated.
There were 4 groups;
-Pro-statue guys, who any sensible person will admit are primarily motivated by the preservation of historical artifacts and to a certain extent by romantic attachment to history (and possibly an ignorant handful who do so to excess, which can be misconstrued by the ignorant as racism). Any neutral observer recognizes this group is the one on the defensive, with something to lose (the statue)
-Anti-racist guys, who misconstrue the motives of the first group because they refuse to acknowledge their stated motives. Depending on the level of zealotry, they likely saw the removal of the statue as a way to punish the racists. These are the aggressors; those seeking to change the status quo for their own benefit
-Communist agitators. There is more than enough evidence to suggest many of these ‘antifa’ folks in black with weapons & tactics are paid performers brought in to instigate conflict. While effective in inflicting physical violence, the masks and weapons make them rather unpleasant in the public eye. They are seen as hooligans rather than heros.
-Racist agitators. The fact that the guy leading the White Shirts was writing for mainstream press outlets, protesting with Occupy Wallstreet in NYC, and supporting Hillary Clinton (against Trump’s perceived racism, btw) right up until the election, at which point he rapidly forms a white supremacist group & becomes a vocal leader of that stupid movement strongly points to him being an agent provocateur. These guys were brought in by the same ones manipulating the communist agitators so as to taint and distract from the first group protesting the statues removal and not much else. Think of it like a pro-wrestling match; if you pair two average Joe’s together, the fight doesn’t happen. If you pair average Joe with Randy Savage, Savage looks like a jerk punching him for no reason. But you put Joe next to a villain character named Hitler who loudly and obnoxiously insists he stands with Joe, and who takes the microphone away from Joe so he can’t contest the claim, and *then* have Randy punch him in the mouth after he gets a few fake hits on Hitler…now you’ve got entertainment.
It’s easy to stage a fight when you control both sides doing the actual fighting; put them on either side of whoever you want to look bad, step back, and watch it all unfold on TV.
“…a war to preserve the right of one group of people to treat another group of people as property, memorialized by the losing side.”
Yeah, there were more than a few issues that dovetailed with slavery in stake, and you know it. Self-determination, economic prosperity, and political liberty.
“racists with body armor and modern sporting rifles.”
Are you referring to the armed socialists? Or the guys in camo seen dealing with both the black-block *and* white-clad toolbags? You should realize –as if you don’t– that the communists and Nazis were both invited to a pre-existing protest in order to ensure a ruckus was raised. The past year has shown repeatedly that when the communists in black alone are used, they *always* initiate the violence and end up too visibly the aggressor, hurting the cause. Nazis are so reviled that the violence initiated –again– by the communists is conveniently overlooked.
“people who want to go back to the days when killing and/or owning people who were not “white” was acceptable, and people who don’t.”
The only people talking about acceptable murders are the ones now openly calling for the assassination of Republican political leaders, stalking the streets with baseball bats, and lynching statues of white men *because* they are white men
“true enough, but only one side killed anybody, and only one side would like to go back to enslaving people and/or killing the undesirables (including me).”
See again; who is ambushing police. Who is attempting assassination of political leaders. Who is rioting in the streets. Who is advocating street violence. Who is crying “revolution” and consistently attacking peaceful opposition, unaffiliated bystanders, and private/public property wherever they assemble. Who calls for their followers to find & punish opponents by violent means.
“it started as race matter, and ended as a race matter.
“sacrifices of many Americans” – senseless deaths of thousands of misguided Confederates over a lost cause.”
There was also the decades-long push by the free states to marginalize the slave states both politically and economically. Naturally they felt their morality as abolitionists justified such tyrannical measures, as is generally always the case with tyrants (justice for the san-cullotes, justice for the serfs, justice for the ubermensch, justice for the faithful). Despite losing both economic and political standing for a solid century, the former slave states had at least retained some semblance of the positive/romantic aspects of their unique culture & history; now the North returns to take these as well and replace them with their own symbols.
I know, I know, you know these things perfectly well, but will cry “SLAVES” “RACISTS” regardless, as though Lincoln & John Brown were pure as the driven snow & justified in every crime. Pure as Robespierre and Lenin in their pursuit of justice, the American abolitionists initiated a war that slaughtered hundreds of thousands so that slaves could become share-croppers for a century. In reality, had Lincoln come out strongly against any federal effort toward emancipation (his personal stance, btw) war could have been prevented. But he enjoyed support from zealous abolitionists, and infamy over his rivals in the eyes of southerners. And he was unwilling to appear weak or tarnish his own political image by firmly taking a neutral stance on the defining topic of his election (imagine Obama stating ‘there will be no healthcare bill’ upon taking the oath of office), and later he was unwilling to appear weak by ordering the withdrawal from Fort Sumter, a critically important port facility for the South that he knew could not be occupied without a response. Had he not insisted that southern men be conscripted to put down the rebellion so as to ruin the relations of the slave states for decades to come, the conflict would have likely been contained to Fort Sumter or SC.
As is seen again and again, the ‘virtuous aggressor’ forces the opposition into an untenable situation –the blockade of one of the most critical ports for a trade-dependent economy– in order to provoke an inevitable limited response, so as to justify an incredibly ruthless counter action “without sin.” If Lincoln was so worried that the loss of the south would destroy the Union militarily & economically, why did he insist upon burning so many of his own soldiers along with the rebels in his war, and why did he insist the southern economy be utterly destroyed by Sherman and emancipation? Objective views of the antebellum period strongly suggest that slavery was in rapid decline & increasingly impractical, and would likely have died out within a decade or two. Had the south amicably left the union, it is entirely likely they would have rejoined within a generation, absent the bloodshed and loss of sovereignty.
“[A]bsent the bloodshed and loss of sovereignty” for everyone, not just the southern states.

Two points for Idaho up there:
1. If slavery was the cause of the Civil War, why did Lincoln wait years after it started to submit the Emancipation Proclamation?
2. Slaves were expensive, both to purchase and maintain. Generally, only the wealthy owned any at all and the rank-and-file Confederate soldier sure as hell wasn’t wealthy. So why would he enlist, march off to war, fight and die for something he had no personal stake in? Could it possibly have been for other reasons? Anything at all?
1. Politics. He wanted to preserve the Union. Slavery was the reason why the South didn’t.
2. The same reason powerful men get weak men to go to war all the time. Ignorance and propaganda.
Ah.
So the rank-and-file Confederate soldier signed up due to ignorance and propaganda. If we were to concede that they were only human, just like their Union counterparts, can we then conclude that the rank-and-file Union soldier ALSO enlisted because of ignorance and propaganda? Or does the easy dismissal of the Confederates motives as sub-human trash only apply to them?
Udahoe girl, you got a lot of clam sand.

As a matter of fact, many of the Union soldiers were immigrants fresh off the boat who were enticed into the Union Army with promises of good pay and benefits. I don’t think any of them understood what sort of hell they were signing up for.
I’m not singing “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” here. War is an ugly mess. But we’ve already had one war over white supremacy, and I have no wish to go through another one. I would rather the ugly racist bastards just crawled back into their respective holes and went away forever.
IdahoBoy, look at what barnbwt has to say below (he knows his stuff) and then read up on the Black Bloc and its tactics. I did, and the whole world of politics and the media shifted on its axis for me. There’s so much we’re just not being told…and so much of what we’re being told about who’s who and what they’re doing is incomplete, misleading, and flat-out wrong.
The white supremacists and alt-right (not the same thing, though there is some overlap) get all the bad press, and the neo-Nazis surely deserve it, but there’s a whole raft of evil leftists in the mix — anarchists and hardcore communists — who get no press at all. You won’t be told who they are or what they’re up to, because the establishment press gives them a free pass. But if you’re interested in keeping the idea of America alive, you should know who they are. They’re the enemy.
I’m well aware of the fact that the ANTIFA is mostly made up of Communists and anarchists. But they were a very small minority of the protesters in Charlottesville. I actually agree with Trump that there was violence on both sides, and that the Communists and anarchists played a significant role in that. But Communists and anarchists don’t have a sympathetic ear in the White House, and there’s far far fewer of them than the racists in this country. There’s no communists or anarchists in my extended family but there are racists. Even my dad is racist. I still go fishing with him, but we never talk about politics.
“…only one side would like to go back to enslaving people and/or killing the undesirables”
If you really believe that only the neo-Nazis think that way, I suggest you do a little research into the history of socialism and communism (which happen to be very popular political philosophies among the “antifa” types).
The death toll caused by Hitler’s Nazis is a drop in the bucket compared to the bloodletting and misery brought by Marxism.
I agree with you that communism is a shity system that has cost millions of lives. But the number of communists in this country is a drop in the bucket compared to the number of racists. And communists don’t have a sympathetic ear in the White House. Therefore the Communists don’t really scare me nearly as much as the racists do.
“And communists don’t have a sympathetic ear in the White House.”
Well, not anymore, anyway. They had a good eight-year run, though.
They do have a sympathetic ear in the media, state, and local government (at least where they show up). That’s what makes them dangerous in my opinion.
I’m not part of this giant argument everywhere, I agree with most of your points. I just want to say that Lee was not a spectacular General. He would have made an excellent Lieutenant Colonel, maybe a Colonel, but that’s where his talent stopped. Shrewd tactician, lousy strategist. Generals deal in strategy. Winning a bunch of individual battles that lose a war is an example of good tactics and lousey strategy. He was very aggressive, which is good for battles, but the aggression wasn’t applied patiently enough, which is why both his incursions into the north failed.
Even if the United States hadn’t outclassed the Confederacy in numbers and logistics, the non-unified structure of the confederate forces along with their comparatively weak officer corps would have done them in. The confederate states had good, probably superior, infantry, but bad leadership. A spectacular enlisted corps can’t overcome bad leadership from their officers. Pair that with the overly decentralized nature of the confederate armies and things fall apart.
General Lee was a decent officer, but he was not prepared to be a general, especially not one charged with the conduct of an entire war.
All that, and he made terrible decisions at Gettysburg. Take a look at the key terrain on the battlefield and compare where each side positioned their forces on the third day and you’ll be hard pressed to explain why Lee chose to maneuver as he did. He walked his infantry into a death trap by positioning the meat of his force at a lower elevation than the U.S. forces (practically in a bowl, like shooting fish in a barrel) and allowed them to be flanked due to extreme vulnearbility to both direct and indirect fires. This becomes painfully clear upon an actual visit to the battlefield.
So, generally bad strategy coupled with a critical tactical mistake toward the end. Not actually a great general. Decent officer, lousy supreme commander.
Imagine how the conflict may have differed had he accepted the offer he received to command the armies of the United States.
Jefferson Davis, Gen. Lee, and Jackson all had very different ideas on how to conduct.
Davis wanted to secure the borders, Lee wanted to defeat the Union Army on the battlefield with honor ect, and Jackson wanted to do what Sherman did do later. Scorched Earth and total destruction for the cities & Towns in Union areas of the North.
If guns hadn’t been present on both sides, I strongly suspect the black-block would have simply beaten the shit out of the protesters with impunity, as they did in several other cities with anti-gun policies, and sympathetic mayors/governors. Guns complicated the situation enough (imagine if antifa initiated hostilities with firearms on national TV; no stand-down order would have kept the police on-scene from stomping them into the ground like they should have) that an additional distraction from their activities was needed, in the form of Nazis.
It worked amazingly well in obfuscating the actual issue at hand (the irrationality of selectively destroying old statues out of morality) and even netted them a telegenic martyr for future use. Expect to see images of Heather & whoever dies next at every rally going forward, as well as violent Nazis who will magically appear at every rally from now on despite being incredibly obscure and few in number until now. Bolsheviks routinely had their troops attack each other under false pretenses so as to drive public outrage toward the Czar’s military.
Morality is a great reason for destroying monuments, or at least moving them to a place where they can be presented with historical context. After the fall of the Soviet Union a lot of monuments came down.
It’s also worth noting that the monuments are coming down now faster than they ever would have before the protest. If the alt-right as they call themselves wanted to preserve the statues the smartest thing to have done would have been to stay the hell away.
Will you support them when they start tearing down statues of Washington, Jefferson, and Adams?
African American (literally born in Africa) posed this question :
“What’s the difference between what happened in Barcelona and Charlottesville?”
I thought I gave an insightful answer explaining that Inslamists are terrorists attacking innocent people whereas the Nazi targeted counter protestors who were responsible for most of the violence.
He argued saying “a hate group is a hate group “.
So I pulled up a chart that gave a breakdown of “hate groups”, in order to make the argument that Nazis and KKK membership is inconsequential compared to the overwhelming numbers of Islamic extremists.
What I found was shocking. I gave the wrong answer to the original question. What’s the difference between the driver in Charlottesville and the driver in Spain.
One is identified as part of a hate group, and the other one is not.
I’ll give you one guess.
Wait, are you suggesting the Confederacy just collapsed? Stalin statues were erected to honor the USSR, these statues were raised decades after the war to honor aging veterans’ past efforts on behalf of their community (if not the nation at the time). The Union was careful to reintegrate the south into the nation with normalized citizenship and representation, yet the neo-segregationists and communists seem to want to take that back, and excommunicate these confederate figures a century after their deaths, and likely their descendants as well. Once again, it is increasingly apparent that the only peaceful course of action is separation, once again I’m sure some president’s stupid pride will insist on blood.
“Morality is a great reason for destroying monuments…….”
.
So says the Taliban and IdahoBoy.
Point well taken. I stand corrected. Let’s move the monuments into a museum setting where they can be displayed in historical context. In a public context, standing alone, they give too much credence to the Confederacy.
This winter, I am going to start all of my fires with the pages of Mark Twain novels.
Didn’t I see that AK in Lords of War?
Nah, the Lord of War gun looks a lot different.

Nail g un fights are a blast (eye protection recommended). Also blasting the kybo when the new guy goes in for a sit.
BTW, there’s no way a framing nail bounces of anything with enough energy to pierce a man’s heart.
Depends if it is normal air nail gun or explosive one for joining timber to concrete. Explosive with wrong size charge very dangerous. Have been known to hit people after going through a wall
I believe the dude who “shot through the heart” was using an explosive nailgun. He was also eerily calm…oh I had a funny call today. An NRA gal called me(usually NEVER answer unknown calls). Lady got flustered when I told her I have no $ and decided to support Illinois Rifle Association. He he…
That’s possible. The Hiltis, Ramsets, etc use a .22LR blank cartri dge. Still, the nails immediately tumble and thus have an atrocious BC. And, unlike pneumatic nailers, you can’t just bump fire them, you have to put quite a bit of pressure on them in order to drive the nail into the concrete. I’m not sure you can just pull the bump safety back and let ’em fly.
That said, it looks like the nail penetrated and inch or so, which is about what I’d expect from a Ramset bounced off the concrete. It would never penetrate the sternum though.
The impulse nailers are probably less powerful if anything than the pneumatic ones.
“Huh, I wonder if it’ll actually…OW, dammit!” –my summary of how it most likely went down. Seems way too stupid for even a suicide attempt. Maybe he held the gun to his chest so he could position a board or something, as a variation.
If it were a pneumatic nailer (see above) the nail driving into flesh would stop when the piston hits the big rubber doughnut at the bottom of the cylinder. There’s absolutely no momentum in that nail to keep it going. Not sure what the muz zle velocity coming out of one of those would be but I’m guessing maybe 100fps tops.
On the other hand, press the muz zle into your chest (or you’re assailants chest – see Lethal Weapon 2) and it will bury a 3″ or 3-1/2″ nail a quarter inch deep and punch right through your sternum. Even then, this is kind of like running a nail into your tire. The blood won’t exactly come spurting out as long as you don’t try to remove the nail yourself. The key here is, if the nail is still – pull it because it’s going to hurt a lot more when you get your feeling back, but if the nail is throbbing – seek immediate professional medical help, and whatever you do – don’t pull a throbbing nail!
That caught my eye as well. The nail supposedly bounced off wood and then turned around and retained enough energy to pierce a chest?
hmm.
I bounced one through my hand, at the base of my thumb, last week. I’d say it is entirely possible to get one past the rib cage.
BTW, do not attempt – it hurts a lot.
The ABA is a as leftist as any trade union. Also, I’ve never known them to do anything of real value. Fortunately, there is zero requirement to be a dues paying member, so I’m not.
I was a member for two years when it was free. When they told me it’d cost me $240 a year to get their magazine, I told them no f***ing way. That was a whole lot of years ago, and I haven’t missed it. Further, the organization has been taken over by the Big City Elite liberal lawyers that take positions which have little to do with law and more to do with politics, consistently outvoting their conservative members, and they are consistently anti-gun. Forget them.
Amazing how so many people support homosexual marriage but also support the government getting involved in the family problems of straight people.
One undeniable fact puts paid to the balderdash in the NYT editorial. If “Taking to town squares to yell past your political opponents is a rich American custom. Those public spaces and our rights to peaceable assembly and free speech make democratic self-government possible” and the open carry of firearms inhibits it, why is it that there were firearms and free speech with each side attempting to shout down the other aplenty in Charlottesville – but NOBODY was shot?
The NYET to Guns conveniently failed to point out that Presser v. Illinois held the Second amendment did not apply to the militia organization lead by Mr. Presser because it held that the Bill of Rights was NOT incorporated against the states:
We think it clear that the sections under consideration, which only forbid bodies of men to associate together as military organizations, or to drill or parade with arms in cities and towns unless authorized by law, do not infringe the right of the people to keep and bear arms. But a conclusive answer to the contention that this amendment prohibits the legislation in question lies in the fact that the amendment is a limitation only upon the power of congress and the national government, and not upon that of the state. It was so held by this court in the case of U. S. v. Cruikshank, 92 U. S. 542, 553, in which the chief justice, in delivering the judgment of the court, said that the right of the people to keep and bear arms ‘is not a right granted by the constitution. Neither is it in any manner dependent upon that instrument for its existence. The second amendment declares that it shall not be infringed, but this, as has been seen, means no more than that it shall not be infringed by congress. This is one of the amendments that has no other effect than to restrict the powers of the national government, leaving the people to look for their protection against any violation by their fellow-citizens of the rights it recognizes to what is called in City of New York v. Miln, 11 Pet. [102] 139, the ‘powers which relate to merely municipal legislation, or what was perhaps more properly called internal police,’ ‘not surrendered or restrained’ by the constitution of the United States.’ See, also, Barron v. Baltimore, 7 Pet. 243; Fox v. State, 5 How. 410; Twitchell v. Com., 7 Wall. 321, 327; Jackson v. Wood, 2 Cow. 819; Com. v. Purchase, 2 Pick. 521; U. S. v. Cruikshank, 1 Woods, 308; North Carolina v. Newsom, 5 Ired. 250; Andrews v. State, 3 Heisk. 165; Fife v. State, 31 Ark. 455.
Presser v. People of State of Ill., 116 U.S. 252, 264–65, 6 S. Ct. 580, 584, 29 L. Ed. 615 (1886)
Cruikshank and Presser were abrogated long long ago. They are not good law.
Ah, but Heller and McDonald most certainly are still in full force and effect – and that’s what counts.
“Historically, lawmakers have deemed open carry a threat to public safety.”
Historically, tyrannical MFs have been purged with violence, and often their women and children, their homes, livestock, and goods, suffered with them. Don’t talk about upholding: the law, decency, public calm, or anything else. You’ve proven yourselves to be wholly against those things in every sense, and YOU’VE WAIVED YOUR RIGHT TO BITCH.
FU if we want anymore stupid regulations spouted from the likes of you, we’ll come beat it out of you.
F the NYT, and the ABA has once again shat where it eats.
Mayhap twas a P320 nailgun and he doth dropp’d it
We are in the beginning stages of a civil war with Marxist as the vanguard for the extreme left. Disarmament is essential for their success. Underestimate these thugs at your own peril.
The Frankfort School is the driving force using Critical Theory.
This is one of the best articles I have seen explaining the American Marxist.
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-08-12/birth-cultural-marxism-how-frankfurt-school-changed-america
The Birth of Cultural Marxism
All was quiet on the Marxist front until 1923 when the cultural terrorist turned up for a “Marxist study week” in Frankfurt, Germany. There, Lukács met a young, wealthy Marxist named Felix Weil.
Until Lukács showed up, classical Marxist theory was based solely on the economic changes needed to overthrow class conflict. Weil was enthused by Lukács’ cultural angle on Marxism.
The school published a lot of popular material. The first of these was Critical Theory.
Critical Theory is a play on semantics. The theory was simple: criticize every pillar of Western culture—family, democracy, common law, freedom of speech, and others (The 2nd Amendment must be destroyed if they are to be successful). The hope was that these pillars would crumble under the pressure.
Next was a book Theodor Adorno co-authored, The Authoritarian Personality. It redefined traditional American views on gender roles and sexual mores as “prejudice.” Adorno compared them to the traditions that led to the rise of fascism in Europe.
Is it just a coincidence that the go-to slur for the politically correct today is “fascist”?
Defending Nazis huh son?
You must be a leftist. The Nazis and Marxist are scum of the earth.
You must be a leftist. The Nazis and Marxist are scum of the earth and the different sides of the same coin. Fascism is a creation of the left not the right. Nazi’s are Marxist by another name. You need to study history. My statement says Marxist/Socialist/Fascist are the true enemy of the people.
So you are defending Marxist/Nazis huh son. Your comprehension skills could use an upgrade son.
Both groups use Critical Theory

The Nazis were part of the UNITE THE RIGHT rally. Nazis don’t claim to be Leftists. Sorry kid.
I didn’t see any Nazis there. And I have been looking. I wanted to see if this was fake news. Washington post reported swastikas and confederate flags were together then produced a picture that did not support the narrative.
Someone should have taken those Nazis out while they were all in one place.
Should have taken out the Nazis and Marxist at the same time. Both are communist.
Here’s a big reason to stop making such stupid statements about bank robbers wearing winter clothes in August…. they occurred in the winter of 2015 when it was cold and rainy. Just read the story before making such comments, OK? There is already too much garbage news to keep adding to it here.
I noticed this little tidbit:
Of course there are ways of checking teachers, they just choose not to use them. They don’t trust teachers with guns, but they do trust them not to have them. That makes no sense as a security measure, making the whole ban an exercise in politics.
Some here think Nazis are a right wing group instead of the Marxist/Socialist they are. Left wing propaganda has pushed that garbage for decades. They are Marxist just like ANTIFA who hate the Nazis for killing their brothers in Germany before WWII.
This book exposes the entire history of the propaganda.

What is “the big lie” of the Democratic Party? That conservatives—and President Donald Trump in particular—are fascists. Nazis, even. In a typical comment, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow says the Trump era is reminiscent of “what it was like when Hitler first became chancellor.”
But in fact, this audacious lie is a complete inversion of the truth. Yes, there is a fascist threat in America—but that threat is from the Left and the Democratic Party. The Democratic left has an ideology virtually identical with fascism and routinely borrows tactics of intimidation and political terror from the Nazi Brownshirts.
To cover up their insidious fascist agenda, Democrats loudly accuse President Trump and other Republicans of being Nazis—an obvious lie, considering the GOP has been fighting the Democrats over slavery, genocide, racism and fascism from the beginning.
Now, finally, Dinesh D’Souza explodes the Left’s big lie. He expertly exonerates President Trump and his supporters, then uncovers the Democratic Left’s long, cozy relationship with Nazism: how the racist and genocidal acts of early Democrats inspired Adolf Hitler’s campaign of death; how fascist philosophers influenced the great 20th century lions of the American Left; and how today’s anti-free speech, anti-capitalist, anti-religious liberty, pro-violence Democratic Party is a frightening simulacrum of the Nazi Party.
Hitler coined the term “the big lie” to describe a lie that “the great masses of the people” will fall for precisely because of how bold and monstrous the lie is. In The Big Lie, D’Souza shows that the Democratic Left’s orchestrated campaign to paint President Trump and conservatives as Nazis to cover up its own fascism is, in fact, the biggest lie of all.
Headline, Washington Compost,
Confederate flags and Nazi swastikas together? That’s new. Here’s what it means.
Yet they don’t show any pictures of any white nationalist or neo confederate with swastikas. They do include a photo of the protesters but absent was the item they were writing about.
Dinesh D’Souza’s writing isn’t as good as it used to be. The last book I read of his had a lot of strawman arguments in it.
I still mostly agreed with it, but some of his arguments were just weak.
So the Nazis just happened to be part of a “Unite the Right” Klan rally. Since they’re on the Left they must have been fighting the Klan not the lefties who were protesting the Klan. Wait, that’s not what happened at all!
There were more communists in the leftist group than Nazis or Klan members in the Unite the Right group. You know, the commies who murdered over 100 million people in the 20th Century. The commies who had/have a plan to send Americans to reeducation camps and to murder 25 million of us who won’t fall in line. But hey, a few misfits waved a Nazi flag.
D’Souza is a felon who should be deported back to India. His attacks upon traditional American should not be allowed to stand.
It’s really hard to deport a citizen. His views are very traditional.
Both D’Souza and Thomas Fitton of Judicial Watch should face deportation. Both of those guys have a distressing habit of exposing malfeasance and sometimes downright criminality in our governance, upsetting those who would rather live in a Fools’ Paradise rather than “rock the boat”. Uncovering scandals is unquestionably scandalous.
If the guys holding the guns are so all-fired threatening, file the brandishing charge and problem solved.
Too bad for the NYT there’s that pesky “reasonableness” test. It’s almost like they want a reactionary-veto on what everybody else does, reasonable or not.
The winds are now blowing in a clearly different direction in the USA. All those wet dreams about suppressors & gun right things are now dead on arrival. Congress will not touch them this year or next.
Last Congress, only 3% of bills introduced made it into law. There never is a good chance of a bill becoming law.
Just saying that I was never that confident that anything was going to happen.
Kentucky’s Constitution protects open carry, but gives the state the right to regulate concealed carry since only someone up to no good would hide their weapon from view.
Neither is public panty wetting !
The most obvious thing to note at Charlottsville was that those openly carrying did not fight, did not shoot anyone, nor did they provoke anyone! They exercised their given 2nd Amendment rights to keep and bear arms peacefully! Must have been a terrific blow to the anti gunners! No bodies dropping due to guns. However, the extreme left chose to engage the right physically first! And then proceeded to continue the assault. Aside from the moron running over that woman deliberately, the blame for violence lays on the mayor and governor for failing to maintain a full and complete separation of both opposing sides! They deliberately chose not to knowing what could and did happen. Trump called it right! It takes two to start a fight! Both sides were equally to blame! All Confederate statues and memorials should remain standing! The true ignorance lies with the liberals failing to understand that the war was NOT ABOUT SLAVERY! The war was over the rights to succeed from the Union and individual states rights! Slavery was just a convenience for democrats and liberals to protest over. The inconvenient truth they want to bury is that blacks and muslims were engaged on the black slave trade for thousands of years before the colonies! They deny that tribal chiefs sold their own people into slavery! They deny that blacks kept blacks as slaves in the colonies. They deny that blacks fought on both sides of the war for what they believed in. But why let historical facts get in the way of mindless ranting protests aimed to force others into their beliefs? You can’t sanitize history! But I do opt for sanitizing liberals and extreme left! My family had 233 members on both sides of that war! And none of them owned slaves or fought for slavery as an issue! They fought to protect their farms, businesses, families and freedom from oppression or invasion! Ever ask why blacks don’t go after blacks and muslims for selling them into slavery for thousands of years?
