A West Virginia woman was able to save her life with a firearm during a violent attack by her boyfriend.

According to a report at usacarry.com, the couple was visiting an acquaintance in Charleston, West Virginia, when the violence started. The boyfriend, 32-year-old Chrishawn Perkins, allegedly accused his 19-year-old girlfriend of stealing and then began physically assaulted her.

According to the Charleston Police Department, Perkins stomped on his girlfriend’s ribcage and head, and punched her in the arm and mouth. Perkins then grabbed a firearm and multiple times threatened to kill her.

During the melee, Perkins began to also fight with the acquaintance who lived at the residence. Seeing her chance to stop the attack, the girlfriend, who police haven’t identified, picked up the gun and shot Perkins.

After the shooting, the girlfriend performed CPR on Perkins until emergency responders arrived. He later died from the wounds at a nearby hospital.

The girlfriend was also taken to the hospital for her wounds suffered in the attack and was listed in stable condition. In an interview with a local news channel, a reporter asked her how she feels. “I wouldn’t say blessed,” she said. “I just don’t feel scared anymore, but I wish things didn’t go the way they did.”

The woman also told the news channel that she had been in a relationship with Perkins for about eight months and that he had beat her multiple times over that period. The case is still under investigation, but currently no charges have been filed against the woman in the self-defense shooting.

Anti-gun advocates will tell you that guns are seldom used for self-defense purposes. However, that’s a big lie, as this situations and thousands of others like it every year show. For this woman, a gun—even though it was not her own—was the great equalizer when it came to stopping and attack by an enraged man.

  1. Part of it is her own fault. He had beat her multiple times and she’s still with him?
What’s the thinking there? It’s not like you’re married to him and breaking up is difficult.

    • Cohabitation is a stone bitch with this concept. Poor mate selection is still the big issue but breaking up can be tricky and unaffordable in some cases especially when the one needing to get away is not willing to take a reduction in standard of living………not that I saw this play out enough times to give up caring unless they are related to me or anything.

    • Kind of a death loop; the relationship starts off great, then comes the threats and beatings with more severe threats of death if one dares to break off the “honeymoon”. Many victims have left relationships and moved out of state only to be tracked down and often killed. I read many stories of new BF fighting off the old BF usually with a firearm.

“Anti-gun advocates will tell you that guns are seldom used for self-defense purposes.”

Anti-gun advocates will cite this incident as an example of the futility of having a gun, since it will be taken away and used against you.

  3. I was born in WV. The women folk then were versed in guns. My grandmothers, mother, aunts all had access to firearms. None of them ever got beat.

A female first cousin went off to uni in KY. She took a model 19 Smith with her. My late sister shot a male cousin because he was getting aggressive with her. It was a pellet gun. But it done the trick. I beat holy hell out of him when I found out what had happened.

There is no excuse for a man to beat a women. None. If he gets killed in the process I consider that suicide.

    • Back in the day my Ol’Man said they had a way of dealing with men who were overly aggressive with or hit a woman. It was called a door knocking party. The men of the community would pay a visit to the offender with one of them knocking on the door as if to pay a visit while the others remained out of sight. Once he came to the door he would be drug out into the yard and taught the errors of his ways. Generally only one lesson was necessary and no law enforcement needed to be involved. The old ways had their value then and still do today.

    • “ There is no excuse for a man to beat a women.”

Unless it is women’s boxing in the Olympics. Then it is just peachy because everyone knows there is no scientific way to “determine someone’s gender.” Only bigots have a problem with this.

  4. Never and I repeat Never attempt to physically aid a violent attacker who has just attacked you or anyone else once you have shot them in self defense or to protect that person(s). It gives the attacker the opportunity to continue to harm or kill you. Back away call 911 give only your name, location and that you were in fear of bodily harm or death and defended yourself with a firearm and where that firearm is now located. Out of your immediate possession. Call your attorney or insurance company that offers legal counsel. The clam up until you have received said legal counsel.

    Well better late than never.

  6. Over the years I’ve heard/read the various reasons why a woman stays with a man who abuses her, why they do not leave them, get out, run away. I’ve heard of and read a lot of things about get help with all sorts of agencies and phone numbers and resources etc… All sorts of things ‘officially’ posed as solutions, that, in the overall picture do not work because still women are abused by their husbands/boyfriends/’partners’.

They only ‘official’ one I have never heard is “open the door and walk out after you make sure he/she/it is dead”.

  7. “Chrishawn,” eh? 32 years old with a 19 year old gf??

    Can you say “usual suspect?”

    Ooh! I knew you could!

    • It’s WV. I haven’t looked for him online. But he could be white trailer trash. WV is about 90+ % white. All the crimes I knew of when I lived there were committed by white druggies.

          • Did I ever imply he was or that he likely would be? I have no issue acknowledging the majority of crime is committed by blacks and increasingly hispanics who used to be counted as white until very recently in FBI stats. I live that reality every time I go to work in Albany. Only people who remember 90+ % white communities from the 40’s-early 80’s have it in their head that whites commit a lot of crimes too. Sure when they are all that is around and there is a motivation/opportunity but some of us can understand ratios and percapita let alone occurrence rates.

“Well, the criminals can’t bring their guns either, and the fair is teeming with trained police who do a great job keeping it safe.”

    😂

Yeah, nope… I already addressed this false logic concept of ‘but we got lots of cops here so people will be safe’ BS concept here > https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/wtf-texas-state-republicans-take-aim-on-state-fair-firearms-ban/#comment-7141431

  9. While I grew up under the guidelines of men never striking a female, a lot of things have changed over those many decades, and one of those is the amount of physical violence many females are able to exert in 2024 as opposed to, say, 1960. The ones I’ve had to deal with, especially those associated with black and Hispanic gangs in particular, are often not of the type who would allow one to just walk away when angered. Even my wife’s 50-some year old niece is this way- I had to call cops on her and her mom last summer for attempting to break in and tear things up. And they would hardly be considered trailer trash, at least not educationally or economically. No striking by the PD but a little pepper spray worked wonders.

I would rarely advocate being a physical aggressor no matter the circumstances. Gun or not, however, one would have to be insane not to defend one’s self regardless of the gender of an attacker. I understand that the chick in question in this article was likely not the “instigator” but that’s unclear as written. My comments only concern the blanket “rule” of never striking a female.

  10. I just don’t feel scared anymore, but I wish things didn’t go the way they did.” — 19 year-old female and alleged victim

Ughh. A prosecutor could use that alleged victim’s words against her–and in a pretty persuasive way. First of all, the prosecutor could claim that her statement (she is not scared anymore) indicates that she had a motive to proactively attack her allegedly abusive boyfriend and stop the abuse permanently. Second, the prosecutor could claim that her other statement (wish things didn’t go the way they did) indicates that she regrets proactively attacking her boyfriend.

Pro-tip: do NOT give any public statements to anyone after defending yourself unless your attorney approves those statements in advance.

  11. She should really think about her choices in men. That said, I was raised similar, You don’t rough women. There are exceptions though. 44 years ago my cocaine addled wife came after me at the kitchen table with a butcher knife. I had used no drugs, 1 beer, and just got off a 75 hr. work week. Not going to happen. I took the knife away from her and wacked over the head with a rolled up newspaper. Stopped that shit short. I don’t even remember why she was pissed. I certainly didn’t want that, but it is what it is.
