As I indicated in yesterday’s Digest, the holiday season has left me with more videos than I have time to trickle out one at a time, so I’m going to clear the bilges here with a few all at once. The first one up there is mattv2099 dropping a GLOCK-brand GLOCK 19 barrel into a GLOCK 26. I don’t know why I was surprised that it worked. I shouldn’t have been. Make the jump for the rest. . .
This one’s a little curious-er, firing .40 S&W rounds out of a GLOCK-brand GLOCK 20 (10mm). I suppose it’s good know that it’ll work in a pinch.

Hickok45 takes us on a tour of the FNS-9. I know you’ll be surprised to find out that he likes it.
Jerry Miculek bangs out 5 rounds in 0.8 seconds with a Desert Eagle. I just… there’s really nothing more to say, is there?
And finally, Colion Noir in a short video explaining his love affair with the HK USP 9mm. I’ve only shot a couple HK’s in my life, but they never fail to impress me. They just feel amazingly solid and mechanical. It’s almost like time slows down and you can hear—and more importantly feel—every single metal surface inside camming, moving, engaging and disengaging as the gun cycles. I definitely get why he loves this gun.
.
I use a G32 barrel in a G27 and never had a problem. It actually keeps the end of the slide clean too after shooting, no powder caked on.
I’m surprised more people haven’t thought of that.
I do the same with a Wolf barrel for my G23 in the G27.
A .357 SIG in a very small package.
The extra barrel length could be threaded for a can.
I turned down a OIB (Old gun, but still “new” in box, never used) H&K USP over a battle-worn Sig Sauer P226, made when there were still two Germanys, when my dad decided it was time to gift me a pistol. Did I make a bad choice?…
No. Never shot the USP, but the W German P226 is hard to beat.
” Did I make a bad choice?…”
In using “gift” as a verb? Why yes. Yes you did. We have a perfectly good verb for that: GIVE.
http://grammarist.com/usage/gift/
Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
Gift as a verb seems to imply that the particular act of giving was a bit of a ceremony, or a symbolic gesture. Seems like perfect usage to me, especially if your Dad regarded the gift of a pistol as a rite of passage or a sharing of his history.
We all know he was asking about his choice of a firearm when it was gifted to him by his father.
The use of the word gift as a verb is centuries old and much debated.
We’re not here to split frog hairs about proper spelling or grammar of an ever changing language.
What matters here is the result of pulling the bang switch with the booger hook.
There is only one group hated more than the anti-gun, leftist communists.
…these people are grammer nazis. Nobody (even wives or parents) enjoys their company.
Nice pre-emption there; no one dares point out your spelling mistake now! LOL!
EV11,
They’re both good guns, but in your position I would’ve gone with the SIG. And maybe it’s just my imagination, but the older German SIGs just seem to shoot better. Also the DA triggers on non-LEM HK pistols suck.
At the time it was only my second experience shooting pistols, and what put the Sig up over the H&K were a couple FTEs for the new(ish) H&K (not knowing at the time that out-of-the-box guns may do this) and the additional bulk of the SIG had me shooting smaller groups.
The next gun I want to take from my dad is his old Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Rifle. But now that I’m all grown up I think I’ll go ahead and buy it from him properly. He’s already given me a 1960s S&W Model 36 Chief’s Special, Stoeger Condor, and Ithaca Model 87 DSPS in nickel matte. Time for me to stop raiding his collection with my puppy dog eyes and “Dad! U want me be not safe from bad guys? I has ur guns plz?”
Especially since I got out of Flint and moved into the ‘burbs. Though to be fair, we did have a shooting in our new neighborhood this summer.
To the Glock videos:
It should surprise no one that the longer barrel functioned in the Glock 26. Longer threaded barrels anyone? I have fired .40 S&W out of my Glock 20 and I can attest that it does in fact work in a pinch. There are some feeding issues (duh!) depending on the loading of the .40 S&W. Also, I have seen a video showing that the Glock 19 slide (slide, recoil spring, and barrel) will function on a G26 frame and the G26 slide will function on the G19 frame.
Glock discusses converting barrels between .40 cal and .357 Sig in their site’s FAQ section, which reads that it’s basically all right to do. However, there is a caveat in that “earlier models may not qualify for conversion.”
Since I’ve never owned a Glock in either of those calibers, it’s never been an issue for me, but neither do I know how to interpret “may not qualify.” Does it mean in earlier models they’re simply not physically interchangeable, thus preventing you from even attempting it, poke yoke style? Or does it mean you can physically do it, but it won’t yield a firearm safe to fire? It’s really just an academic question for me.
You can physically do it, but shouldn’t. Whenever Glock first came out with their 357 Sig models, their frames were “beefed up” over the .40’s. Eventually, all of the frames got the same reinforcements. The early G22, G23, and G27 could be what they’re referring to.
It has to do with the number of pins that hold the gun together. 3 is safe for .357 SIG, 2 is not recommended.
Refer to the second post in this thread to see the difference.

Really not surprised with either Glock video. For the Glock 26, that’s the only way we can get them here in Canada, any pistol with a barrel less than 105mm is prohibited. In fact, the G19 barrel is still too short, the ones we have are longer.
As for the .40S&W in the G20, the only significant difference in the cartridges is the length and max rated pressure. Since a lot of commercial 10mm is produced as an “FBI load” with substantially identical performance to .40S&W there’s no problem having enough force to cycle the slide reliably. Additionally, since we know that the Glock extractor is a tenacious bugger with a grip strong enough to let you set off 9mm in a .40S&W chamber it should come as no surprise that headspacing is a non-issue.
“In fact, the G19 barrel is still too short, the ones we have are longer.”
G17 bbl? Should work as well.
Nope Glock 17 has a different barrel.
Nope. I learned the hard way to never do that again.
“it should come as no surprise that headspacing is a non-issue.”
It is still an issue. Can the gun take it? Yes, but you are shooting with excessive headspace since the rounds headspace on the case mouth. A few rounds won’t hurt it, but making a regular habit of it might.
I do love me some H&K hardware, too, Mr. Colion. You’re not alone.
19 barrel in a 26 frame is old news. The Glock 19 factory threaded barrel functions perfectly fine in the 26 with a silencer too.
I have never fired an HK, but I want one. Handled an HK$% at the LGS; it just fit. It felt immediately right at home. Raking the slide, it had an intense but smooth feel of perfectly matching machinery. I was indeed impressed.
Mark, I’m sure it was just a Freudian Slip, but didn’t you mean to put 2 dollar signs after the “Handled an HK$%” to denote the high entry cost of ownership? I’m sure it wasn’t accidentally holding down the shift key while typing “4” and “5”…
Video one, did he say an extra 400-500 fps from the G19 barrel?
He wasn’t being serious, right? I think my sarcasm-meter is broken…
what about headspacing on the .40 in the 10mm?
Glocks are remarkably forgiving in regards to bullet and caliber selection. A buff extractor is a nice feature.
