Hand combat skills are the foundation of any armed self-defense. In many maybe even most violent situations, you won’t able to get to your weapon. If you don’t know how to defend, deflect and counter-attack with your hands and other body parts, to give yourself the time and space you need to draw, aim and (if necessary) fire your gun, you stand an excellent chance of being quickly and completely overwhelmed by your aggressor. In the scenario above, we’re seeing a snapshot, not an entire confrontation. Expecting the perp to stand still while you initiate your wikkid moves is foolhardy. Expecting yourself to grab a gun pointed at your head and redirect it to shoot the assailant’s head is . . . unrealistic. For most of us, a simple, extremely violent counterattack is best.
That doesn't look like a bright blue practice gun.
Techniques like this often look good during demos but when the bad guy really is attacking, the don't stand still and let you disarm them. The techniques shown in the beginning require the bad guy stand still and keep the gun against the body. Looks good there.. on the street… no so much.
Seems like a great way for the average Joe to get his head blown off.
