I’m African American. Well half. I’ve travelled to my homeland and I went on safari. I am not, however, the President of the United States. While my trip cost a bomb (in the British sense of the term) it did not run to $100m. And now, neither will the President’s. After the Washington Post unearthed secret documents detailing the costs and logistics of the CIC’s sojourn to his birthplace ancestral homeland the “We Can’t Afford to Show Children Around the White House Because of the Sequester Which Was Our Idea But It’s the Republicans’ Fault” Administration’s cutting back on the extras. Specifically, the safari part of the program. Apparently, the revelation that the Prez was going to take a sniper team to deal with lions and such had something to do with it. Check it . . .

The president and first lady had also planned to take a Tanzanian safari as part of the trip, which would have required the presidentā€™s special counterassault team to carry sniper rifles with high-caliber rounds that could neutralize cheetahs, lions or other animals if they became a threat, according to the planning document.

But officials said Thursday that the safari had been canceled in favor of a trip to Robben Island off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa, where Nelson Mandela was held as a political prisoner.

When The Post first asked White House officials about the safari last week, they said no final decision had been made. A White House official said Thursday that the cancellation was not related to The Postā€™s inquiries.

ā€œWe do not have a limitless supply of assets to support presidential missions, and we prioritized a visit to Robben Island over a two-hour safari in Tanzania,ā€ said spokesman Josh Earnest. ā€œUnfortunately, we couldnā€™t do both.ā€

Internal administration documents circulated in April show that the Obama family was scheduled to go to both Robben Island and the safari park, according to a person familiar with the plans.

I wonder if they budgeted for countermeasures against Africa’s most dangerous animal: the mosquito.

    • Its apparently out of place here, but keep in mind 100mil is an estimate. The range it might cost is the same as it was when two past Pres visited. Clinton and Bush.

      You complain that “liberal media” and gun grabbers paint gun owners as crazy, yet continue to feed that image by using thinly veiled and vague language wishing him harm. This doesn’t solve the issue

      • When he lies to the American people telling us he’ll have to shut down all sorts of services if he doesn’t get his way, then spends like a sailor on vacation with an entourage, he losses all credibility. Wait, he lost that already.

        If the fed is really that broke, he shouldn’t be going anywhere but “to the office.” He damn sure should not be schlepping his entourage along for the ride at our expense.

    Can we just get this guy out of the white house already? Preferably for less than 100m.

    I’m pretty sure Aids/HIV is the leading killer in Africa, with murder and starvation coming in a close second and third. Throw in some malaria and TB. What a great place, to visit that is.

        • Yes Mike C. I have heard of Rhodesia and South Africa. My reference wasn’t about white colonists. It was to the train of thought in the science community that modern humans began as a species in Africa and migrated out from there. So we may all be Africans. Deal with it.

    $100 million for Obummer’s trip? That is insane and we can’t afford it. Think of all the American children that can be helped if he doesn’t spend our money on such a trip. If anything, he should take a trip to Rwanda and show respect to the hundreds of thousands massacred because they did not have access to guns to defend themselves.

He does realize his job as President is to lead our country into prosperity, not be able to enjoy free vacations so he can explore his heritage…it’s not about him, it’s about American interests…and there is literally NOTHING happening in Africa we need to care about…so how about he does his job. $100 million for his little journey of personal discovery…I’d pay that only if he has to STAY THERE!

    • I’m sure some cesspool in Africa could use a library. Good place for Obuma’s shrine. Think of the moron tourism opportunities for Africa. Just make one way.

      What a Obuma Pres library might look like/contain is an open question though.

    • For some reason when I think of Obama, I think of Marie Antoinette. You can live the high life for only so long before a mob comes after you with pitchforks. Someday, if you do a bad enough job of ruling your peasants, they will come after you.

    Hint: It ain’t a .223.

    • Don’t think the boys over at S.S. have anything in the arsenal that’s Africa-rated. .308’s and 30-06’s are decent rounds, but they ain’t up to stopping a charging Rhino. (They do well enough on Rinos, but the “h” is a whole ‘nother matter.

      • A .50 BMG semi auto is more than adequate to stop a charger from anything that charges. Since you’ve got roughly 2.5-3x the kinetic energy of a .458 Win Mag, I wouldn’t be too worried having a good .50 cal overwatch.

  8. This president is a total hypocrite in every sense of the word. He seriously disgusts me and has completely defecated all over the respect that I have for the position he holds. The man is complete disgrace to that position. All those that support him are nothing more that domestic terrorists. His supporters are every bit as guilty of treason as he is. Its too bad there are so many ignorant sheeple in this country that this atrocity has been allowed to continue. Anyone who voted for this individual has no right call themselves an American. This man encompasses EVERYTHING that America was founded to stand AGAINST! He should not be impeached, he should be tried for treason, and suffer the consequences of his actions. I am in mourning for the great nation that has been destroyed by the pestilence that has besieged it. If you are one of those that really hates this country, or its founding principles so much, why don’t you just leave and go to one of the countries that better fit your ideals? Why has it become so important for you to destroy the ideals and principals of this country for those of us that still have faith in those beliefs. The only thing I can say about this is, I still love my country, I still love the principals and ideals that it was found on. I will NOT live in servitude, and I will NOT stand by while my country continues to be infected with disrespectful dissidents. There will be a price to pay for these indiscretions, and both sides will endure a devastating cost. I can only hope that when the dust settles, my country will stand, with its founding principles and ideals intact.

      • Not really the same thing. Your ex-girlfriend is what SHE chooses to be. Our country is only what we make it. Therefore, as I stated in my post, people like Obama, who do not agree with the principles and ideals that this country were founded upon. Should not be trying to make this country something different then what it was founded to be. Instead of attacking the foundation of a country that was never intended to curtail to their ideals, they would be better off in a country that already supports their chosen lifestyle. Your ex-girlfriend is an individual, the country is a community. But one thing is true. She is your EX-girlfriend for a reason. You didn’t get along so you left. You shouldn’t try to change her, and they shouldn’t be trying to change my country. So the same is true for those that don’t appreciate this country. Maybe they should consider making it their EX-country. šŸ™‚

  11. I am not American, I am Spanish, living in Europe, but I love the United States and what the US stands for, as the founding fathers once wanted, men of huge wisdom and long, long term vision. May the Almighty keep and preserve the sacred principles that made the US a great land to live in.

  13. No government employee, including the president, should have an assigned “counter assault team”. If a government employee thinks he needs a bodyguard, let him pay for it out of his own pocket. Otherwise, call 911 and be put in the queue.

    • Wonderful how you can get away with stuff when the AG is in your pocket. Got a beef with the POTUS? Take it up with Eric Holder. Got a beef with Eric Holder? Take it up with Obama. It seems they, at least, are convinced that they can ride out all the current scandals this way. They’ll just keep thumbing their noses at congress.
