Should the government ever come to peoples houses searching for guns, they’ll encounter a lot of Hotel Californias (in MOST states, I’d wager).
I think if she understood that they would disassemble her multimillion dollar houses, all of them, down to the studs, during the search and then leave them that way, and the first scrap of illegal drugs they found would put her in prison for years (even though they never said they were looking for drugs, even when they brought in the dog), we might find she had changed her mind.

I am all for her right to express her opinion. She may be right, there might not actually be a reason for people to have automatic weapons. But it doesnt matter if anyone has a reason or not becuase it is a right in the 2nd Amendment. And the reason of that anendment was to ensure that the federal government thinks twice about restricting our liberties (any liberty).

I don’t recommend that, but I do find a dark-skinned person arguing for gun control to be terribly ironic, seeing as gun control was originally created in the Jim Crowe days to keep guns out of the hands of newly-freed slaves.

Someone needs to educate Whoopi on what an automatic weapon is. When she says they need to be banned – they are already banned for everyone except the rich, the elite, and Whoopi. And have not been used in any of these shootings.

Long ago (a very long time ago) semi automatics were called “automatics.” This is not the present day terminology.
Automatic: press and hold the trigger – bullets continuously fire from the gun. One trigger pull = multiple shots. These were very heavily regulated in 1934. They were banned from ownership for any manufactured after 1986 for the common man. Today a person has to pay exorbitant $$ to own them. So ownership of these kinds of weapons are for rich people like Whoopi. To my knowledge a fully automatic firearm has never been used in these school shootings.
Semi automatic: one press of the trigger = one bullet exiting the muzzle. The trigger has to be let off and press again for another bullet to exit the muzzle. This is the most popular type of firearm today. This is the basic functionality of virtually all pistols, all revolvers, and a great many rifles and shotguns. These are the types used in mass shootings and are very common. US civilian owned AKs and AR15s etc fall in this category. They are never used for the “military” and are not military rifles. MSR (modern sporting rifles) fall in this category.
Manual action: these are the oldest type with exception to muzzle loaders. They use a lever or a bolt to manually cycle the action.

Maybe I’d recognize that people would like to be free to do what they like (so long as they aren’t hurting anyone else) and nosy homeowner association types seeking to force their opinion on everyone else should grow some tolerance and leave people alone. It’s a great challenge to communicate any conclusive truth to someone who vigorously scorns incorporating a contrarian fact into their conclusions. This is exactly the problem with people who don’t know how fire arms work and don’t understand the process for getting a fire arm making laws for fire arms. They really should take the time to go out to a range and learn the differences in firearms. Then they would figure out that all of their common sense solutions are on the books and not being enforced.
I’m also really surprised that Whoopi is a gun owner yet comes across as uneducated in fire arms basics. She is a very intelligent person who I’m sure goes to great lengths to research an acting role she will be playing. I would think or at least hope she takes the owner of a fire arm just as seriously. I’m also curious if shes got a concealed carry permit for where she lives in southern California. Cause if this is who they are giving those to while denying the average citizen is the exact reason we should require shall issue across this country at a minimum.
In my opinions Whoopi is a racist. Years ago when HBO gave her a special, she demanded it take place at a club that only allows Black entertainers only. Aside from that, even when corrected with the facts, she still insists on being ignorant and calling them automatic weapons. For some, learning is just not part of the equation.
All good arguments guys. But let’s not forget the main reason why we, the people DO need fully automatic weapons. Same reason the constitution forbids the government infringing our right to keep and bear arms.
Yes, it is for killing people. Yes, it’s for battlefield use. Yes, it helps when you need to keep the enemy’s heads down to allow you to move. When the enemy is a tyrant we need all and any arms to fight him including FA. I hope it never happens and deterrent of mere possibility of armed resistance against power grabbing madman is enough.
