It’s hard to think of a worse possible nominee than David Chipman to run the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). President Joe Biden could have nominated Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke, as he infamously promised him a gun control job at an El Paso campaign appearance. Or maybe even given the nod to Michael Bloomberg. It seems President Biden’s primary qualifications for the job are “must hate firearms” and “belittles those who buy guns.”
The nomination of Chipman is a troubling reversal of years of pro-active safety cooperation between ATF and our industry. It is an undeniable targeting of a Constitutionally protected industry by President Biden who called us “the enemy.” It is also a reckless betrayal of the brave men and women of the ATF who have a difficult enough job without the politicization of the ATF. Under Chipman ATF will pivot from enforcing the laws enacted by Congress to political activism.
Chipman is wholly unqualified to lead the men and women of the ATF. He surrendered any notion of being able to execute the duties the office requires when he became a lobbyist for Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety and later for Giffords gun control group, along with his position as senior policy advisor at Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence.
Among the bills he lobbied Congress were universal background checks, handgun licensing and registration, banning modern sporting rifles (MSRs), instituting age-based gun bans and to establish a national firearm transfer delay period.
That’s an unacceptable starting point for any nominee for this position. It’s putting the fox in charge of watching the hen house. The inverse would be if President Donald Trump had nominated Wayne LaPierre to take the job during his administration. The mainstream media and gun control camp would have howled, and not without cause.
That’s why NSSF won’t passively simply oppose this nomination. NSSF is adamantly opposed. It will treat this nomination, and any senators who vote in favor of it, as the threat to the firearm industry and Americans’ ability to exercise their fundamental Second Amendment rights that it is.
Chipman is unqualified and unworthy of this position of public trust. The U.S. Senate has a role to advise and consent, and it must examine the factors that make Chipman unacceptable as the ATF director.
Cronyism
Chipman’s nomination is the thank-you card for which gun control groups have been waiting. Several groups made it clear they expected President Biden to deliver big for them, because they delivered big for him on the campaign trail.
Bloomberg’s March for Our Lives demanded $1 billion in spending for gun bans and gun control, along with a cabinet-level position to emphasize the Executive Branch’s seriousness on gun control. Just weeks ago, Giffords gun control was emphasizing their desire for action.
Gun control just got paid back in a big way. They didn’t get “a” man for the job. They got their man.
It was also a political play with Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz). He’s the co-founder of Giffords gun control, along with his wife and former U.S. Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, for whom the group is named. It is his organization that would be at the point of enacting a gun control agenda and it would be a favor that President Biden would likely call in later.
Untrustworthy
President Biden made a show of talking up Chipman’s 25 years as an ATF agent. The president didn’t explain that those years weren’t without lingering questions. Chipman was “case agent in [the] Branch Davidian trial” while stationed in Waco, Texas, from 1993 to 1998. Chipman reportedly claimed Branch Davidians downed two helicopters with .50-caliber rounds during the 51-day siege. A U.S House of Representatives report indicated that no helicopters were downed or any crew hurt.
A photo published in The Daily Mail (above) shows Chipman standing in front of the smoldering remains of the burned compound, holding a rifle and wearing camouflaged clothes. In the background is the skull of one of the 76 men, women and children killed in the botched raid. It is important to note, these were Americans, some of them innocent children.
Chipman’s antipathy wasn’t limited to Waco. He derided the 8.4 million first-time gun buyers who purchased a firearm last year for self-protection during the pandemic. Chipman dismissed the buyers as fearful and preparing “for end times scenarios and zombie apocalypses.”
“If you didn’t think you needed a gun prior to March of this year, you certainly don’t need to rush out and get one now,” Chipman added.
He said new gun owners “might think they are die-hard, ready-to-go, but unfortunately, they’re more like Tiger King and they’re putting themselves and their families in danger.”
“Secure that gun, locked and unloaded and hide it behind the cans of tuna and beef jerky that you have stored in a cabinet and only bring that out if the zombies start to appear,” he said.
Only in President Biden’s mind are these statements somehow better than “Beto” O’Rourke’s “Hell yes” announcement on wanting to confiscate 20 million MSRs.
The ATF deserves a leader, not a former gun control lobbyist with a political agenda. The Senate must reject this nomination.
Larry Keane is SVP for Government and Public Affairs, Assistant Secretary and General Counsel of the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
The ATF, by its very nature is not qualified to enforce “SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED”, this should disbanded.
Another Stasi-Scum, Leftist, Pig At The Trough.
Has Miner put in his application to join the ATF? He would make a good lackey for Chipman as they appear to be like minded. The future Special Commissar has to start somewhere.
Chipman in that top picture seems to be loving the smell of burning flesh in the morning!
“Respect ma authoriteh”
Looks to me that he’s holding an M-14….standing in the ashes.
He must be very proud.
He sees desolation and calls it peace, or justice.
There is a burnt corpse in the lower left center of the picture by the way. Chipman and his fellow ATF scum are posing for their victory photo.
Effing murderer, stasi jackboot thug, criminal, loonie. If Biff had a retarded younger brother, chipmunk would be it.
Certainly ranks with Lon Horiuchi.
He’s a poor choice to head up the ATF.
But Kudos to him and every fed for wiping out the Branch Davidians! Hopefully he can achieve similar results with Q cultists.
“Rammerjammer” ?
I bet a fuckwit like you enjoys a good “Ramming and Jamming” on a daily basis… 😉
We all know how the d!ck swinging contest between ATF and FBI went. Each trying to out shock-and-awe each other.
Any bets those agents who tried to enter by the roof were shot by their overeager fellow agents? They were buried very quickly afterwards.
Just how big of a Rectal Sphincter must one be to applaud the death (well, massacre) of a group of people who chose to worship the Christian God in a slightly different manner than ‘mainstream’ without causing harm to anyone else?
I assume that you have to wear adult diapers on your feet to avoid leaving behind a trail of slime.
Bloomberg .
Seems like with a name like that he’d want the citizens to be armed.
I can’t figure it out?
Traitors, each and everyone. If you take an oath to uphold the constitution, and then put the blinders on Shall Not Be Infringed your a traitor.
YOUR FIRED, pack your sht an git.
Apparently the only worse choice would’ve been “Beto”!! They’re not even pretending anymore, so get ready!
A letter to my two Senators. Futile I suspect but must be attempted.

I am strongly opposed to the confirmation of David Chipman as Director of the ATF. In testimony Mr. Chipman declared he wants to regulate the AR15 style semi-automatic rifles as if they were machine guns. Obviously a semi-automatic is not fully automatic and therefore not a machine gun. Mr. Chipman stated “To me, if you want to have a weapon of war, the same gun that was issued to me as a member of [the] ATF SWAT team …” That statement is false as the rifles issued members of the ATF are capable of fully automatic fire. The AR15 is neither a weapon of war nor is it capable of fully automatic fire. Mr. Chipman knows this so at the minimum he is lying and if under oath he is deliberately committing perjury. In either case he is unfit to execute the office for which he has been nominated.

Like I said, he knows the difference , his lie is targeted for the gunm grabbers.
“In the background is the skull of one of the 76 men, women and children killed in the botched raid.”
Wow, literally standing on the dead bodies of innocent children to pose for a picture.
That makes him a very special kind of piece of shit.
Get cancer, Chipman… 🙁
I think that picture is fake. No body armor, no identification, T shirt , camo pants, no hat and the thing that really blows it is no sunglasses or field notes .
It does look like a burnt head laying back there.
It’s definitely real I just don’t think it’s him. There are a series of them most off the other guys are holding Remington 700 snipers of some flavor.

These where clearly all take. At the same time you can see the ammo cans in the background. These men are all dead too me but Chipman ain’t no sniper.
The background may be real, but where’s his field notes???
Fake cgi
Akin to putting an abortionist in charge of a Hospital’s Neonatal NICU!
Someone please describe where the skull can be found in this photo. I’m having a hard time locating it on my phone.
To the left of “Big Cock” and about twenty feet back. If me n Geoff are looking at the same thing
“It’s putting the fox in charge of watching the hen house. The inverse would be if President Donald Trump had nominated Wayne LaPierre to take the job during his administration. The mainstream media and gun control camp would have howled, and not without cause.”
False moral equivalency is not only the ugliest of the Left’s tactics, but also the most irrational, indefensible, and absurd. Gun grabbers would have howled because they’re assholes, but an organization lobbying for the Constitution is not the same as an organization lobbying against the Constitution.
It’s going to be interesting to see if his confirmation hearing stirs the ashes of Waco in the American Psyche. It’s like they’re trying to bring the militia movement back to life.
If want to have another Waco/Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building issue? Just keep going in the direction you are headed.
Thank you to the Never Trump gun owners. We are all gretting what YOU wanted.
Maybe they do?
Sadly I have become very cynical lately. I used to not be this way.
I know he’s dead but the Democrats could have just as easily a nominated the former klansman, Robert Byrd, to run the Civil Rights division of the justice department. The appointment of this guy to the ATF is an obscenity.
It’s getting hard to have a sense of humor I must say.
More bull sht, piled upon more bullsht.
I just can’t wait until my broke ass has to buy an electric car or walk. Looks like it’s going to be
Lambourfeetie 10.5R , Zoom zoom
Investment into a small solar panel generator and a survival drinking straw is a very good idea now. Seriously.
I though Dementia Joe nominated Chipshot to head up the AFT.
I do not call him Jim Crow Gun Control joe for nothing.
In his video press speech, slow Joe kept saying “AFT” instead of ATF. I guess it’s true, AFT, as in “Fore” and “Aft”. Since this bureaucracy is ASS-Backward.
Does anyone have a source or other way to verify that Chipman was present at Waco. It would help our cause if we could prove it but that picture [bdu+m14] has been presented to me as one of the HRT sniper trained guys involved every other time I’ve seen it. That is prior too chipman’s was selected for atf director. It’s a powerful image if it can be verified and I’d love to see it.
It would also be interesting to know WHO proposed the POS for ATF director. He has been sidelined into a BS antigun position for some time.
“The ATF deserves a leader…”
The ATF deserves to be disbanded and every single one of their oath breaking thugs put out of work and in the fucking soup line.
And this is why the National Shooting Sports Foundation should stop trying to cozy-up to fedzilla and state governments. Rather, the National Shooting Sports Foundation should be pressing fedzilla and state governments to stop infringing on rights.
Their current strategy — attempting to manage/slow-down government infringements on our inalienable right to self-defense — is a losing strategy.
“The ATF deserves a leader”
No, the ATF deserves to be dissolved entirely. The technical experts and bomb experts should be hired by the FBI or the DEA, maybe. But not as LEO’s. No ATF personnel deserve to carry a badge or a gun.
Not after the Ken Ballew raid, Ruby Ridge, Waco, Wide Receiver, Fast & Furious, Brian Terry and countless incidents of incompetence, arrogance and corruption leading to injury and death of citizens and other cops.
