Recently, there have been a bunch of social media posts trying to paint vice presidential candidate JP Mandel JD Vance as a Nazi. How? By highlighting Nazi imagery at a gun show:

What the people online aren’t understanding is that you’ll find things like this at just about any gun show. But, it isn’t because gun owners are Nazis. The fact is that historical military gear of all kinds shows up on the tables for sale. In addition to Nazi collectibles, Soviet gear is common. Other things that show up from time to time include west German Cold War gear, Imperial Japanese guns and just about anything else that’s both collectible and sellable.

For all of this, the draw is to collect historical artifacts. For some people, it’s a particular part of history they’re particularly fascinated with. For others, any kind of military history is interesting. Just like stamps, guns and signatures of celebrities, people just like to collect things, and the things people want to collect can vary widely.

Another thing that’s fascinating about military memorabilia is the feeling of defeating enemies. For example, many World War II veterans came home with things they took off of captured Nazi soldiers and facilities. People who had fought against the Nazis and the Imperial Japanese didn’t embrace the ideology of the enemy. They wanted to remember defeating them and driving these disgusting ideologies into the dustbin of history.

The other thing that needs to be pointed out is that conservative gun owners would never embrace communism. They hate it. But, all of the gear, memorabilia and even guns from the communist bloc countries tend to be VERY popular at gun shows. Can we really say that a person who owns a Mosin-Nagant rifle, Makarov Pistol or AK is secretly a communist? That’s just silly. Some may be, but the majority most likely is not. But, if a swastika from a captured Nazi flag someone’s grandpa took home shows up, suddenly it must be there because Republicans are secretly Nazis.

So, no, this isn’t a good dig against JD Vance or against Republicans. Like the recent memes claiming Vance had intimate relations with a couch, based on a false rumor, there’s just not any truth to them. If the goal is to bash Vance, there are plenty of other things to dig up, like strange dolphin porn searches and past videos talking badly about Donald Trump. To just make stuff up both reflects poorly on whoever does that.

  1. Something important to remember about Nazi/Communist/Japanese/etc. stuff at a gun show like that is that someone was probably SHOT to get it in the first place. Like a Nazi, a Communist, a Japanese Imperialist etc. It wasn’t exactly a gift of affection from the parties involved or a demonstration of common causes.

    • If it is commie stuff (Mosins, Makarovs, et), it was probably military surplus bought inexpensively after the fall of the Soviet Union.

      • So pompous slanderous lowlife politically inept history illiterates want to see Swastikas? Take a good long look at Gun Control and its Roots in Racism and Genocide…

        • IMO…All of this border czar, swastikas, cackle hype, etc. are stalls and distractions from an Assassination Attempt, murder and injuries. Everything coming from DC about the failed assassination attempt remains wishy washy half truth song and dance reminiscent of the Nahville school shooter.

The only bit of truth about the perp came from an eyewitness who saw the perp’s hair fly up after his head was blown apart by a .308 or 300 win mag, etc. Basically all that’s known fact about the perp is his head exploded and was probably a mess to sweep up.

America knows the democRat Party has done everything they could to stop Trump from being POTUS and they failed leaving only one option open…Assassination.

        • That’s a cropped famous photo taken at the liberation of Buchenwald. The man fifth from the left along the vertical beam is Elie Wiesel. He later became famous and won a Nobel Prize and was a professor at Boston University. I met him back in the early 1990’s when he lectured at my small private High School in Washington D.C.

        • Debbie you should spend more time dealing with your menopause and less time frothing at the mouth to the 15 guys that comment here.

    • The left doesn’t care what the truth is. They are more than happy Vance is in a photo with swastikas so they can paint him as a Nazi.

  4. When I was a kid, WWII was more recent than 9/11 is now. Of course we were fascinated by that stuff. I even have an Afrika Corp hat floating around somewhere. Doesn’t mean I don’t think Nazi’s need to die.

  5. Sure are a lot of people running around causing mayhem while wearing a keffiyeh. I guess using their logic, that makes them jihadist terrorists.

  6. I know a guy who owns a small range and gun shop. He also collects German military Lugers and guess what, his shop has a case displaying Swastikas, all engraved on a few of the lower valued Lugers and holsters!

    • I have a very fine example of an officer’s dagger that my Ol’Man took from a dead Nazi. That I am very proud to own knowing the manner in which it was taken.

      • Granddad was in the 11th Airborne Division. He brought back a sword that sits on my mantel. Does having an Imperial Japan artifact make me a bad person? jsled apparently thinks so.

  7. Totally agree. I have a CZ27. Newsflash! CZ was a Nazi company when the Germans took Czechoslovakia. They weren’t Nazi before, they weren’t Nazi after, but during ww2, they were…they didn’t have any choice in the matter. They Nazi’s didn’t exactly offer them an alternative.

The fact that my CZ27 had a german pinwheel on it was not my choice, nor theirs.

I just covered it up, end of problem.

  8. Before Hitler the swastika was a symbol of good luck in many counties. I used to have a small collection of items that had swastikas on them that were not Nazi. I had the bell from a child’s tricycle that the dome was a swastika, golf clubs with swastikas on the irons, a British ceramic plate that had swastikas, four-leaf-clovers and horse shoes as decoration. The word swastika is not even German. Check out an early U.S. Army 45th Infantry Division patch. It was a gold swastika on a crimson square. When it was obvious that we were going to fight Germany the patch was changed to a gold thunderbird. Both were native American symbols. The Germans call a swastika the “hooked cross.”

    • It’s also a Buddist religious symbol. Both the clockwise [swastika] and counter-clockwise [sauvastika] “rotation” are used.

    • What the fuck does this have to do with anything?

The swastika is now inextricably linked with the Nazi party.

It’s going to take a long, long time before that link is broken.

But, again, what does this history lesson have to do with anything about the post?

      • “What the fuck does this have to do with anything?”

You don’t understand what ‘context’ means M̶i̶n̶e̶r̶4̶9̶e̶r̶ jsled ?

        • void…That is expected from a history illiterate mealy mouth pencildick like you. The preservation of a centuries old document called The Constitution of The United States or anything else does not belong in the hands of an ignorant sackofsht like you. Really fukhead you need to take up knitting.

          • Lol wrong reply button dummy and it is quite correct if the Palestine protestors are any indication. More into weaving though better money involved with carpets. Don’t worry though there will always be tyrants to bitch about we will just call them something different.

      • Lol nah barely relevant and quickly more tenuous as anyone with actual memories dies off. Probably be totally irrelevant within 20 years.

      • The post was about swastikas. His comment was about swastikas.

Are you on the spectrum? Serious question.

      • jsled…Instead of looking toad stupid trying to hang swastikas around the neck of the Party of Lincoln you should man up and hold your party the democRat Party liable for its centuries of race based atrocities. If you have not noticed there are more and more Black Americans waking up to the fact democRat History Matters. That spells trouble like it would for a Jew waking up and realizing they belong to the nazi party.

Furthermore there is one word that historically precedes nazi party and its use tends to get one moderated, I think you can figure out the word because you bozo wear it well.

  9. Sensiba couldn’t resist taking a swipe at Vance in the last paragraph, by referring to a similarly dishonest smear. She’s really a piece of work.

    • Yeah Swastikas abound at gun shows. And Trump. And confederate stuff. And anti-Dim crap. I occasionally sell to an unnamed jewelry store. The owner invited me into his gigantic below ground vault. It includes a gazillion historical gats with most in pristine condition. From the American revolution to who knows. A dozen old Henry rifles. Lots&lots of WW2 Every major country represented including Deutschland. Lots of crap with Swastikas. Is he raciss? Beats me as my wife is brown & he welcomed her. She is extremely well known in the antique and decorating community. Not a fan of JS with her thinly veiled hate for anyone not aligned with her “world view”.

    • She’s a left-winger; they can’t help themselves. You almost can’t get mad at her for doing it for the same reason you can’t begrudge a dog for licking its own ass.

You CAN, however, get mad at TTAG for hiring her in spite of her fealty to the same people who want you disarmed.

  10. > But, it isn’t because gun owners are Nazis.

Except you’re forgetting that a significant reason that there’s lots of nazi shit at gun shows is because a lot of fucking gun owners are nazis.

Y’all need to purge them from your ranks, but you won’t, because you too are nazis.

    • “Y’all need to purge them from your ranks, but you won’t, because you too are nazis.”

Really? Because someone doesn’t run around chasing nazis to ‘purge them’ from the ‘ranks’ that makes them a nazi too?

Okidokke then…. how many violent left wing trans people have you purged from the ranks? What, none? Well then, that makes you a violent left wing trans person.

I have this disturbing mental image of you in your far advanced years out in your yard on your spindly shaking legs in your boxer shorts screaming “GET OFF MY LAWN!” at nobody.

    • Y’all need to purge them from your ranks

We tell the feds every time they aren’t welcome but they keep showing up with their skinhead, nazi nonsense trying to recruit drunks and addicts.

    • nazi’s are in the left, now. jsled, you are a nazi. Telling innocent folk to purge their ranks. That’s a nazi thing. Blame the whole village for the actions of one or two.

It’s called the fascist left for a reason.

    • You’re doing a lot of tarring with that broad brush. You see a lot of historical memorabilia from all sides at the shows. Often on the same table. I would often spend more on historical books than gun stuff at shows.

    • “Y’all need to purge them from your ranks”
Only communists and followers of some other flavor of eurotrash collectivism speak enthusiastically about purging anyone from society. Sorry you’re so upset that people are allowed collect whatever inanimate objects they want. There are a lot more commies running around with useful idiot followers than nazis anyway. I hate them both, but because genocidal leftists are “cool” politically now, and have been for decades, they scare me a lot more.

    • You certainly have an idea in your head. Do you ever question it? Is there any possibility you could be 180 degrees wrong? I question myself all the time. I suspect you never do. You have the certainty of a child.

  11. This isn’t as effective as her writings on other sites. I was particularly annoyed by an article she wrote about the alleged evils of orbital solettas to reflect sunlight to the ground at night or arctic winters.

    https://cleantechnica.com/2024/07/24/the-dark-side-of-reflecting-sunlight-to-solar-farms-at-night/

Of course she totally debauched her discussion of the prospect of Solar Power Satellites. If we had a few hundred such satellites in orbit beaming uninterrupted power down to ground receivers using proven microwave transmission technology, we would have an abundance of energy for billions of years.

  12. Anyone following the Senate bearings in the assassination attempt?

The Democrats are trying to distract attention from the complicity

    • Considering all the evidence concerning the numerous lapses in established security protocols. This incident was either a complete failure of the Secret Service or ‘Grassy Knoll’ part deux. One thing for sure had this happened to Biden or Harris the temperament and voracity of the questioning by the Democrats and the liberal media would be much more demanding of answers. Instead of the standard rigamarole being witnessed at the hearing.

      • Or the Director’s newly recruited DEI hires were assigned.

For supposed highly trained professionals it is disheartening to see a USSS agent fumbling with their holster.

        • Those large ladies were not Secret Service agents. They were supplementary personnel from other, Federal law enforcement officers. I suspect that they are agents from the Federal Air Transportation Administration Safety Service, otherwise known as FAT ASS.

All joking aside, those women could have taken a .50 BMG bullet for the President.

          • Don’t forget the FPS (Federal Protection Service) the
FBLie, Not-So Secret Service et al, EEOC/AA/DEI rejects, that’s where those gyno-munchkins were likeky drawn from for the Trump rally in Butler.

  13. He is a Republican candidate. Therefore, the Democrats and their cronies will bend, twist, and rape the truth. It does not matter what reality is. They will do anything possible to defeat him.

  14. You can always count on Twitter to amplify the dumbest possible take on pretty much anything, and that’s saying something.

That said, I don’t doubt there were some at the show but I don’t actually see any swastikas in the pictures presented…

  15. You see a lot of “Reb” civil war stuff too, which is sometimes more collectible because it is rarer that the Union stuff. It doesn’t make you a Confederate any more than owning a spatha or a Gladius makes you a Roman.

  16. Actually, there is nothing “we” need to explain about collecting historical memorabilia. What really needs to be “explained” to the woke and anyone who would claim offense to any such items is:

    History is history!

Attempt to rewrite it all you wish but it all comes back around again nearly every generation if we attempt to forget it. Hell, it comes around again even if we teach it…

  17. I rate this: mostly true. You see a lot of historical iconography at gun shows because many gun owners are interested in history. Fair enough.

On the other hand, I once attended a gun show where a sleazy fellow was selling modern manufacture swastika (Nazi flag) throw pillows at his booth. Not historical artifacts, mind you, but throw pillows. For Nazis. It was quite concerning that there would be a market for such things here in the good ‘ol USA.

It was also right across from the Army National Guard booth, which was kinda funny in an ironical sort of way. I don’t think those guys were real happy about their Nazi neighbor.

My point is: let’s not pretend the swastikas and communist memorabilia (but I repeat myself) are present solely because so many gun owners are interested in history. That’s mostly true, but there are some – not too many, I hope – who are definitely interested in something else.

  18. Moderation is broken AF. Write an article about swastikas and then censor me for saying “swastika.” It boggles the mind.

    • Rest assured pertinent G rated replies to articles are not being moderated they are tossed now that Dan is gone…As the cute little Chinese girl said in the movie Safe…Bad For Business.

  19. I wonder how Sensiba might approach this same subject for any of the left-wing rags she also writes for.

I still can’t believe TTAG continues to employ this Quisling.

  20. Don’t waste your time with explanations. All of us who read this newsletter already know the facts, anyone else who stumbles onto this won’t believe what we have to say anyway. The leftist programmed mind could never ever listen and learn from someone that doesn’t think a dude can get pregnant.

  21. Dems want chaos, that’s how they rip your rights away! Look at every gun controlled dem city and state run by the true nazis!
