Unbroken-500-post

I haven’t seen ‘Unbroken’, but the movie started life as a Laura Hillenbrand book. And if Angelina Jolie et. al did anywhere near the job with ‘Unbroken’ that that was done with ‘Seabiscuit’, it’s probably worth a view. Anyway, the producers want to give TTAG readers some free DVDs. Why? No idea, but who are we to decline free stuff for our readers? It is, after all, a war movie and as you may have heard, they tend to use a lot of guns in wars. So if you’re interested, enter a comment below and we’ll choose nine lucky winners to receiveย a free Unbroken Blue Ray DVD. You’re welcome . . .

Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie directsย UNBROKEN, the epic drama adapted from the wildly popular New York Times Bestseller about the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louie Zamperini. Ownย UNBROKENย on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD March 24th from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

  1. Free is good. I was a bit miffed about the pic being pretty much shut out of the Oscars….

  2. The book was fantastic, highly recommended. Louis Zamperini really was an incredible person.

    • I’m not positive, but I think Blue Rays will play in DVD players, you just won’t get the higher definition.

      • Some Movies nowadays comes packaged with both Blu-ray, DVD and digital download copy. But it will be marked on the front, and it’s a separate disk for each of them.

  3. Only know the story, haven’t seen it, but tell them thanks! Never hurts to advertise and tap into a large market such as the gun community.

  4. Louis “Louie” Zamperini died just last year (July 2, 2014) at age 97.

The Wiki page gives a brief rundown on Zamperini, who put up with more than most could ever hope to stand.

Just before he died, he completed his autobiography:

Laura Hillenbrandโ€™s biography ‘Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption’ is what the movie (that I haven’t yet had a chance to see) was based on.

Hillenbrand was the author of ‘Seabiscuit’ and is a highly talented writer. I personally don’t have a huge interest in horses, even though my sisters had them growing up, Hillenbrand puts you right in the story and I found ‘Seabiscuit’ an excellent read.

  5. I didn’t get a chance to see it as well, but I will certainly jump at the opportunity for a free copy…

  6. Sure, I like free stuff… and Angelina Jolie. Wait, she doesn’t star in this. Hmm. I’ll have to actually watch the extra features I guess.

  7. Hmmm, Hollyweird offering freebies to a pro 2A group. Something doesn’t seem right. I wonder if they aren’t offering copies that weren’t pressed properly. But Hey, they’re ‘Unbroken’. Or maybe these are the copies they made specifically with only advertisements from ‘Mums against Guns’

I’m getting better at ignoring stupidity but could always use more practice, so if these are the ones with the bad advertisements, I’ll use it as practice if you’ll send one. If it’s a bad press, then I’ll use it for target practice. Either way, I’m good.

    • Brangelina support 2a. It’s nice to see some real hollywood muscle support our rights, for a change. Seems like all you hear lately is foreign actors slamming the constitution.

  8. I read the book. It was a well written and compelling story.

I can’t imagine how hard his life was in that period. From being shot down, to one POW camp to another POW camp, his psychopathic jailors, to his eventual rescue. It was all to harrowing with few bright spots.

It was both easy to read yet hard to hear. I recommend it.

  9. Saw it when it was in theaters. Quite well done even though it obviously wasn’t able to cover all the material in the book for time reasons.

  10. Ive been waiting for a reason to buy a blue ray. I think my laptop plays them already.
    HD guns!

  11. Unbroken is a great war film for sure. Any film that shows survival on the deep blue sea always gets my vote. There was gun play, but the ballistic violence isn’t what stands out in my memory.

  12. I’m looking forward to seeing this movie. I need to pick up a copy of the book, I read an impressive bio of him last year and he sounds like quite a guy and a great American.

  13. always have to be wary about what you read on the internet April 1st.
    but this could be legit.

  14. Love to have one to put in my DVD library. Movie was good but didn’t cover the whole book. I’d watch it again…and probably again.

  15. I have about as much chance of winning this contest as being lost at sea without a paddle…er…surviving a Japanese POW camp…ummmm…I have as much chance of winning the Unbroken DVD as winning an Olympic gold medal….oh dammit to hell….I won’t win.

  16. While I do not own a Glock, I would love a copy of “Unbroken” the unofficial movie of Glock’s. I could watch it while I’m working on my 1911’s.

  17. I love this website, check it every day from work. I would indeed like a copy of this movie.

  18. Angie’s better (much better) half did a great job in “Fury”. Check out Fury – one of the stars of the show was the M1917 in Wardaddy’s tanker holster.

If this flick is half as good I’ll like it.

  19. I admit, i saw the movie in torrent form. I’d like to make up for it with a legit copy.

  20. How about a copy of the movie for those of us who read the book as a compare and contrast. Just like this website does on firearms related issues….

  21. I haven’t seen it either, well except for the first 20 minutes. It looked like it was going to be good until my Blu-Ray player decided to give me the finger and not play any more. Between the two, I’d rather have a player and no disc than a disc with no player.

  22. I read the book and it is quite an amazing story. Haven’t seen the movie yet. Be nice to win the DVD.

  23. I listened to the audio book and it was a very fascinating book that I couldn’t put down.

  24. I just finished reading the book. Absolutely amazing how much suffering a human can endure and come out of it not only with his humanity intact but his dignity as well. It’s also quite an indictment of the unbelievable brutality of the Japanese in WW2 which they still, to this day, do not acknowledge.

  25. Good movie, was disappointed though that Hollywood basically eliminated the religious aspect of the story. But that’s typical historical revisionism for you.

  26. There’s 114 people already registered, I don’t think making another
entry would give me a significant chance to win, so I really don’t…oh, darn.

  27. I meant to see this when it was out in theaters, but life issues got in the way. Wouldn’t mind having a copy to watch when it’s just me in the house.

  28. Sign me up too. Our son saw the movie and my wife read the book, which makes me the only one in the house who isn’t up to speed on the story.

  29. I like the book, but haven’t seen the movie. I also like free, thanks TTAG for the chance to win it!

  30. I’ve heard good things about the flick. Should be a good addition to anyone’s collection.

  31. My wife would enjoy this movie even more than I will should we be among the lucky winners. This is considered “family viewing” at my house.

  32. I’ve been told that the movie downplayed Mr. Zamperini’s Christianity, which is a shame. He was a faithful man and he attributed his faith in Christ to getting him through some of the toughest moments of his life. Haven’t seen the movie for myself, so once I receive my free copy from TTAG I’ll do my own research. ๐Ÿ™‚

  33. Read the book, saw the movie, both tell an incredible story. Not a war story but a story of man against man. I have known a former Japanese POW who spent the war in a POW camp. He talked about the guards who treated them with kindness more than those who were brutal. This should be used as a tool to teach what we must never let happen again.

  34. Great flick! Haters of this should hate ALL John Wayne and Robert Michum war movies; all submarine WWII movies; all Iwo Jima, tank, D-Day movies. etc. Well, you get the picture.

  35. I would love the opportunity to win the Blu-Ray. Thanks for the giveaway. I hope that I win.

  36. It was a pretty good movie. If I win, feel free to open mine up and watch it before you send it to me. ๐Ÿ™‚

  37. Excellent book. I just finished reading it. What an amazing story and testament to so many courageous American soldiers and air men. Sign me up.
