We don’t know where Tim Going lives, but we sure hope there are feral hogs there, pests though they may be. It would be a darned shame not to put his new Underground Tactical Bacon Maker Six 5 Ultralight to its highest and best use. Then again, we’re sure the 6.5 Grendel gun will be ever so effective on Bambi and his brethren, too. After a lot of very stiff competition and much consideration, Tim took the grand prize in our first ever reader review contest for his take on the Mossberg 715T rifle. Here’s an excerpt:

I will be the first to admit that sometimes, a cheap gun is a cheap gun. Don’t even get me started on the SIG Mosquito, my life lesson that when ALL the reviews you read say something is bad, it probably is bad. But if you think that any gun less than $300 is not even worth wasting your time, well I find your lack of faith disturbing. My Mossberg Maverick, GSG 1911-22 (purchased after the review of the gun on TTAG) and my SCCY CPX-1 all stand as testament that a reliable, accurate, and fun gun can be had for less than three bills. However, the biggest proof of this point is my Mossberg 715T . . .

There were a lot of excellent efforts turned in. In fact, there were so many that we’ve also chosen a few additional notables to receive special recognition. They are:

Aaron James – Kellogg’s Pop-Tart Pistol
Paul Jeong – LWRC M6IC
D. Ruiz – Legacy Waterfowl Extreme Shotgun
Paul K. – HK P2000, Phoenix HP25A, Ruger SP101

That fantastic four will each receive a CMC Triggers Tactical 15/10 Trigger Group for their efforts. And an invitation to submit more reviews to TTAG for the honor of truth, the glory of excellence, free ammo, access to T&E guns and yes, maybe even cash money.

Please note: TTAG remains an open door to new talent. If you didn’t win the gun or a trigger, you can still submit a gun review (or rant or blog post) to [email protected]. One caveat: all non-contest entries may be edited for length, coherence, accuracy, snark infusion, etc.

We hope you’ve enjoyed these reviews as much as we have. It’s extremely gratifying to know that our readers share our unflagging commitment to telling the truth about guns, and literary excellence. Thanks for playing. Next up (after a suitable pause) another editorial contest with another wicked awesome gun as a prize.

    • I agree Cameron. I found it entertaining, exceptionally well written, AND particularly appropriate in light of the news of the day. Additionally, I noticed that Pop Tarts had over 2000 Facebook shares, driving a ton (LITERALLY) of people to the TTAG site.

  1. Many mazel tovs, Tim! And hats off to the judges for choosing the best-written review rather than a review of the coolest gun.

    • They usually trickle them out over a long period of time, so don’t despair that yours hasn’t yet been seen. It might take a couple of months or more to get them all published.

  2. Congrats to Tim, and kudos to TTAG for giving new writers a place to shine, and other new gun owners a place to learn from many diverse voices.

  3. PS: thanks to everyone who submitted a review- learned something from each, and enjoyed them all.

How did I miss the PopTart Pistol- Lol!

  4. Congratulations Tim. There are cheap firearms, inexpensive firearms, and firearms I can not afford. Mossberg comes under the heading of inexpensive for me.
