I’m currently in Avon Connecticut undergoing Simunition training. If you’re not familiar with the technology, think of it as paintball that can kill (400 fps). In fact, the Simunition range protocols would have made The Andromeda Strain a very short movie (if the virus had started in a lab). Here at General Dynamics, it’s safety first—whether you’re trading shots with a pretend bad guy on a hermetically sealed Simunition range or visiting the nearby bathroom. Apparently. More on the gun range of the future soon.

  1. It can kill? Huh? How much do the projectiles weigh? And at only 400 fps? Airsoft guns are faster than that and you can get metal bbs.

      • BB guns can go over 1000fps. And a non-projectile blank is rather ambiguous in regards to the charge. We are talking about 400fps.

  2. All those directions and nothing specifically about muzzle control? Well, point it in a safe direction anyway.

  3. Only girls and the elderly run their paint guns below 400 fps.

Several thousand paintballs at point blank range at said velocity: Still alive.

      • i’d love to see an article (or part of one) on how they’re lethal or could cause serious damage (sans unprotected eyes) at 400fps

        • Hyperbole. The range is “sterile.” Once all the participants are inside, no one leaves, no one enters, until the scenario is over. If anyone leave to return, the door is locked and they’re re-checked for ammo, weapons, etc.

  4. When I used to work out at the U of Dayton gym, the urinals had targets on the bottom where the usual screens are. The explanation given was that all the users were highly competitive.

  5. Sign in my mothers bathroom…My aim is to keep this restroom clean… Your aim will help!
