A former Everytown for Gun Safety employee took to Glassdoor — a website where current and former employees can anonymously rate and review employers — to warn people to stay away from the gun control organization.

According to the review, left on July 30, 2021, working for Everytown was “similar to being in an abusive relationship.” What’s worse is the review comes from someone who worked in a domestic violence and sexual assault crisis center.

Working at Everytown is similar to being in an abusive relationship. I do not take that statement lightly – I have experienced my fair share of abusive and manipulative relationships and I previously worked for a domestic violence and sexual assault crisis center. Everytown as an organization and Everytown’s management really meet all the criteria.

On the outside, (white) people love Everytown. Everytown has carefully created a brand of “gun violence prevention” that gun owners and non-gun owners want to stand beside, under the guise of “protect the children”! When you tell others where you work, you might hear comments like, “thank you for doing this important work”. But on the inside it’s a nightmare. I believe the folks who have positive things to say about the organization (at this point) are either a.) a part of the problem or b.) leave before they take off their rose-colored glasses.

Similar to an abusive relationship, at first Everytown is appealing, great benefits, it pays more than most non-profits, work-sponsored travel, free branded swag, use of the word “team” so often heard that you really believe for a moment that you are in a warm and welcoming work environment, that cares about ending gun violence and your well-being. All the warm and fuzzies, until little by little, things change.

Interestingly enough, one of the major people the review seems to take issue with is none other than Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts.

Albeit there is a massive discrepancy in how you are treated based on your department and manager. If you are searching for a job within the Field Department, this will absolutely be applicable to you, should you choose to work at Everytown after reading through these reviews. The Field Team is paid the least within the organization, this team includes the SURVIVORS OF GUN VIOLENCE, Moms Demand Action, and Students Demand Action. There is cliquey energy within this team with the white women who have been around “since the beginning” aka since a white woman who had absolutely no connection to Sandy Hook decided to “take action” via Facebook and later profit massively from it. Spoiler alert: these women are now managers/directors and are part of the reason why talented staff leaves, especially staff of color.

The Field is “leading the racial justice work” in the organization, with emphasis on how volunteers need education, with no intention of addressing it internally. The only reason why some race-based conversation happened was because George Floyd was murdered and it made the organization look “woke”. It’s hypocritical on the inside and the outside once you start paying attention. The point of Field leading DEI work is used to gaslight Field staff seeking greater change. The actions that happened following George Floyd’s murder were also used to gaslight staff because “look how much has changed” or “this is the most change I’ve seen in the 7 years I have been here” and “change takes time.”

For years, those of us who are pro-gun pointed out that gun control advocates are quick to disarm women and people of color, especially those in inner cities. People like Maj Toure and Chris Cheng have repeatedly talked about how the other side puts them in this box.

Anti-gunners assume all minorities, members of the LGBT community, and urban Americans are helpless. It turns out a large part of Everytown and Moms Demand Action’s failed messaging stems from rich white women, like Shannon Watts, who know nothing about being a person of color in the inner city.

But that’s not their only problem. Trainings and “research” are being conducted by those who know nothing about the subject area. In other words, they’re preaching from a pedestal they have no business being put on. How rich.

If you are working for the Political team, Federal team, and some of Law & Policy team, you will definitely make more money, and will likely be just fine if you are a white man. There is a lot of Ol’ boys club energy and culture between the white men, who all definitely protect and uplift one another. They seem to be immune from consequence or feedback and people tiptoe around them out of fear of disrupting the status quo and losing their job.

There is a general culture of working hard “for the cause” which looks like overworking employees, with tasks and responsibilities that are impossible to accomplish in a 40 hour work week. Gun violence prevention is used to justify this continued treatment (gaslighting) and if you can’t keep up then you just are doing enough “self-care”. In addition to the long hours, over time your managers will continuously add on responsibilities, including tasks that you might have no expertise in executing. Some examples: A group of white people should not be responsible for creating anti-racist trainings for the organization and volunteer base; non-clinicians should not be creating trauma-informed trainings; managers with absolutely no experience should not be claiming “conflict resolution” approaches when they have never participated/won’t pay for legitimate conflict mediation; and department managers talking about characteristics of white supremacy when they have no intention of changing the white supremacist culture and policies that harm and push out BIPOC staff. Also, so many staff facilitating and developing training content with no experience with the topic, but also no experience facilitating and creating content.

I want to circle back to this idea of working “for the cause” – in Everytown’s case, senior management actually has no intention of ending gun violence, especially outside of gun violence that white children might experience. This organization is used as a shiny, feel good, star for the wealthy, white folks at the top. It’s all politics. Instead of investing millions or hundreds of thousands of dollars into communities, with violence intervention programs that have been proven to work, they will literally donate millions (y’all can look it up) into political races and into the hands of legislators to get what they want. Again, not based on what a community wants – it doesn’t matter if Black and brown folks will be over policed by a policy Everytown paid to come to fruition because Everytown does it to look “good” (to white people). Remember, saying “police violence is gun violence” was a highly radical statement until they needed to look woke in their listserv when George Floyd was murdered.

Are you still reading? I’m sure some folks have already made a decision after reading thus far, but let me continue just in case.

Gaslighting is the major characteristic of abuse at Everytown. There is absolutely no transparency in how decisions are made (hint: it’s personal interest, favoritism, and nepotism) then management is “confused” about the “rumors” that lower staff “come up with.” They have offered virtual forums to address staff concerns, but talk so much that there is only time for one question and don’t think about using that chat box because management can’t answer verbal questions and read/respond to the chat box in the same meeting (fyi, Field does this getting paid a third or a quarter of their salary).

The saddest part is the poster contemplated suicide because of the dysfunctionality and abuse taking place inside the organization.

During the pandemic, many of the staff, especially women, were on child care duty, homeschooling, etc. while trying to work. For the staff who utilized the Federal COVID relief policy to have a reduced schedule, they were expected to do the same amount of work in less days aka working three 13-hour days and getting paid 24 hours per week. During and before COVID, so many of us prioritized work (especially the perfectionist/seeking approval types), leaving our families, our homes, our relationships, and our personal and physical health behind, similarly to the isolation that occurs over time in abusive relationships. Personally, I got to a point where I was contemplating completing suicide out of the dread of going to work every day. (But remember, it’s my fault for not taking care of myself because I didn’t self-care hard enough).

I had countless meetings with my supervisor, my supervisor’s supervisor, my supervisor’s supervisor’s supervisor, HR, other departments even. Feedback doesn’t go anywhere or doesn’t change anything depending on who you talk to.

Even though this organization acts as though they’re the champion of minorities, the poster indicates minority staffers are continually “marginalized.”

There is truly so much more I can say. I haven’t touched on tokenization of marginalized staff, particularly Black, latinx, and LGBTQ staff. I haven’t touched on the Planned Parenthood to Everytown pipeline. I haven’t touched on the ableist policies and work culture. I haven’t touched on how managers have blocked staff moving into higher paying roles because they didn’t like them. The pay or recognition (you will never get) is not worth it.

This organization is like a black hole. By the time you realize how horribly you are being treated because you are tired, overworked, and you feel crazy, like it’s your fault you feel this way because you are not doing enough self-care, you have absolutely no energy to get out. It takes a lot of energy to apply and interview for jobs, and I know at least five people who are actively trying to quit, in the process of interviewing, etc. but still have to show up. For others, the beginning charm of this abusive relationship flares up and keeps them going like a free lunch, a new sweatshirt, working remotely for many Field staff, or maybe they just need to keep the good benefits for their family. I know even more folks where this is the case (over 20).

This organization is beyond change, beyond saving. This harm is intentional. Do not waste your life like so many of us did.

This review confirms everything we have repeatedly said about Everytown and their affiliates. This organization works to disarm law-abiding Americans in the name of “gun safety” yet they fail to care about their alleged cause or the people they supposedly work to help. The worst part of the entire ordeal is those who cling to their message believe Everytown’s leadership cares about average Americans, especially minorities.

The truth is people like Michael Bloomberg and Shannon Watts care about no one but themselves. They want to disarm you and me but they pay to have private security that protects them with – you guessed it – a firearm. They look at people’s grief as a moneymaking tool that also gives them notoriety from the legacy media.

Hopefully, potential employees will look at this review and realize they would be a pawn in a larger scheme. And, if we’re lucky, getting the word out about how horrible their organization truly is will cause their demise.

Thank you to our friends at Mom-At-Arms for highlighting this review and bringing it to light.

    • “…make everyone around them just as miserable as they are!!”

      That’s what Democrats do.

      It’s ALL THEY DO!

    • Everytown for Gun Safety is a nothing burger from the kitchen of Bloomburger and George Sorros. Served up by mindless snowflakes and soccer moms of the gated communities. The right to keep and bear arms is an ….let’s all say it together….ENUMERATED RIGHT….. while what Unplanned Parent Hood does….. IS NOT. They need to teach Government and History in school instead of wasting time communizing our kids. God…when the pendulum swings back its gonna hurt.

    • “…when the organization is run by shit for brain idiots?”

They aren’t idiots, far from it.

They’re smart enough to know that making a job feel like righteous ‘crusade ‘ means they can get away with doing things that no one in their right mind would normally do.

They are literally mind-fvcking them, and the ‘grunts in the trench’ will willingly let them get away with it.

At least until they wake the fvck up, and get the hell out of there, that is. The image they have cleverly crafted means they will have zero problems finding replacements.

They can even use that zeal to pay the employees far less than they normally would by using guilt on them come time for a raise, or pay them a decent starting wage in the first place.

They will be told there isn’t money for a raise, and if they give you a raise, that’s going to negatively impact the money that could be used to get their important message out.

Far too many companies pull that bullshit out of greed. It’s like a silicon valley startup startup that pleads poverty to get the company up and running…

  1. I love it when liberal shills figure out they are just being used. “useful idiots” (wrongly attributed Vladimir Lenin)

  2. Is there a reason TTAG published this diatribe?!? Why would I(& many of my fellow TTAG regular’s) care if this gal offed herself? It sounded like she cried ” you raciss” a bit too much. The fact that this presumably colored woman worked for a militant Anti-gun cabal is telling. No credibility…

    • I don’t want her or anyone else to off themselves, but after reading that, I doubt she was ever close to it. She has some legitimate complaints, but she also comes across as weak and whiny. Oh no, you have to work over 40 hours a week? You don’t like your bosses? You feel like they aren’t listening to you? You think management treats people better when they personally like them? Does she think she’s in a unique situation lol?

The funniest part was how shocking this was to her, as if these were good people trying to improve everyone else’s world and not their own. The Left loves these organizations precisely BECAUSE THEY’RE POLITICAL (wait so Planned Parenthood isn’t just about “women’s health” lol). That’s the entire point. Wake up and smell the coffee. The zombie sheep love to put down the “greedy corporations” when orgs like this are no better. As a matter of fact, they’re much worse. At least those greedy corporations actually produce something.

    • “Is there a reason TTAG published this diatribe?!?”

Yes, this comes under ‘Know the Enemy’.

It’s also ammunition you can use in an argument with a gun-grabber, pointing out the naked hypocrisy of the antis…

    • I agree, I came here to state the same.
The racial bias undertones and at times down right blatant, is just too much. The article shows signs that this person is not the whistle blower everyone here would like to see but more so a person who has a lot of their own backwards biased issues and because everytown didnt line up with their views, then they are the enemy.
Race was pushed far too hard to take this as a legitimate piece.
Reading this is no different than listening to BLM ranting about how white officers prey on black folk.

While I don’t care for the organization and like everyone else I would like to see it fall, this gets us nowhere. I also never understood people who work for non profits and complain about low pay. Pay is profit, if Shannon is making millions then it’s profitable.

One of the biggest issues I have is someone who barks at how a white person can never teach about racism or race reform because they will never know what its like to be black and only black people can teach racism reform.
I put that right up there with “only women doctors should be able to tell women how they feel or what they should do with their bodies”

If a male doctor says you have cervical cancer, he is most likely correct, just because its a man saying it doesn’t make the cancer go away.
So a white male telling you that low income jobs, lack of fatherhood, high drug traffic and poor funding for the communities is causing hardship in the black community, doesn’t make the problems go away cuz a white guy couldn’t possibly know.

I would have to agree with many here, this was a waste of article space.

      • “Pay is profit, if Shannon is making millions then it’s profitable.”

The “non-profit” hospital in my area fought tooth and nail to prevent another hospital from opening in the same region. The fight went on for years, then the “non-profit” bought them out. The CEO of the “non-profit” makes millions, as many do.

    • Look at it from the other direction. Presumably this is a woman of color who believed what she had been told by the media – guns are bad. She believed it so much she joined in the fight. While in their camp, she realized the fight was not for the safety of children, but for the disarmament of the people who need protection the most. She started out believing Watts, but now she’s telling people to join up with Maj. And she’s doing what she can to let others know that everytown is full of it.
That’s a win for our side.

    • It was a peek, from an insider, of a self serving bunch of rich arrogant communists. Had no sympathy for the former employee but was interested in all the fake imagery and gaslighting. Wonder how much support they get from Soros ?

  3. Wonderful article by Beth Bauman. Great inside information but like most things written by pro-rights people (like me) it will only be read by us. This information rarely gets into the MSM, and if and when it does they will delete it, or have some prepared statement to discount it. Or worse yet “crickets.” Unless we get our message out to the “antis” like they do to us, this is all just an exercise. Hopefully the courts are the answer, if not then we are doomed to one day be reading about how it used to be in America.

  4. Well it’s really no surprise to hear all this. If you work for an “Evil Organization”, expect to be treated poorly. I mean even Doctor Evil himself had a nice lunch spread with Starbuck’s Coffee for his employees. In the end if you didn’t please the boss, you were literally incinerated.

Victims of crime are simply instruments to get what they want politically, nothing more. Its good to hear from insiders, what we already know to be true. Organizations like this serve to enrich the people running it and to funnel money to their fellow trawlers in the DemoRat Party, nothing more.

  5. Well well well….
Like we didn’t know all this already.
Maybe there are some #MeToo instances somewhere in there. That works great for shutting down organizations like this.
I am interested in the Planned Parenthood to Everytown pipeline.
We all know that both these organizations are used to funnel dark money to DNC candidates.
You know all those politicians screaming about dark money, they doth protest to much I say.

  6. I am not the least bit surprised…No matter where Gun Control has been throughout history or where it goes hell on earth or some form of hell rides along. It is the nature of the beast to eat even if it has to consume its own at Everytown HQ.

    • Everytown has ethics. Unfortunately they are the ethics of Shannon Watts and Michael Bloomberg. Remember Ms Watts was a corporate shill (or whore) for Monsanto who aren’t exactly known for their ethical behavior.

  7. From the beginning Everytown and MDA looked like just a repeat of the racist, white, affluent Karens that made noise in the 80’s and 90’s. They tried not to lean so heavy on the gangster and rap imagery they used back then and instead decided to embrace the “stupid white hick” as their scapegoat.

True to Karen form they just can’t shake their day-drinking, country club, Tipper Gore DNA.

  8. This isn’t news. Every bigger company or nonprofit has had an employee that was crazy, or gotten a horrific review online. Its meaningless, and you’d be a fool to put any trust in these 1-sided reviews.

  9. Not surprising. Its the way our Country has become. People exploiting the minorities for their own benefit. This person and some others he described finally woke up. You can still be a slave if you are being paid unfairly. There are too many folks in the minority and even in the majority communities that still think these Democrats and Leftist really are working for them.
Unfortunately not enough of them realize they really don’t care about them at all unless they can somehow benefit from looking like they do. Just take a look at Afghanistan, the Covid abuse in Blue States in particular, and basically the way they are making folks dependent on Government until of course they bankrupt the entire Country. Always keep in mind the rules they make for you are not for them or illegals and refugees. They are for you and you alone. So wake up folks and heed what you have been told in this article because it happens everyday all over the Country and you really need to stop supporting these Democrats and Leftists.

  10. Who would have thought that working for totalitarian, busy-body, egotistic elitists wasn’t going to be a great experience? They “know” what’s best for a nation of strangers and are trying to force their views upon them. Why wouldn’t their attitudes wouldn’t carry over to employees they actually have control over? They obviously know best and don’t need your input.

  11. From the review and corresponding article:

I want to circle back to this idea of working ‘for the cause’ – in Everytown’s case, senior management …”

Ah, now we know what Jen Psaki was really doing when she was reportedly “away on vacation” at the onset of the Afghanistan airlift: she was finally getting around to creating and submitting this review of her previous job at Everytown before becoming White House Press Secretary.

  12. I’m getting a bit of an “uh-oh” vibe from the person who wrote that rant. That said, I have little difficulty believing Ms. Watts is a tyrant. Every bit of her public persona is part of a well-crafted PR campaign.

  13. I’ve worked for a lot of supervisors over the years. The most directive, the most tyrannical have always been the woke types, even before woke was a thing. They were so certain of their righteous purity the felt like they could demand anything.
Conservative bosses are far more laid back and vastly preferable.

  14. i listen to enough whining, yet knowing her dissatisfaction was enjoyable. i really didn’t get the tone that suggests her racial identity.
“you hate your job? why didn’t you say so? there’s a support group for that. it’s called everybody and we meet at the bar.” -d. carey
i noticed “latinx.” this reminds me how glad i am that romance based languages (especially) are gender based and i can’t imagine quite see how that can be neutered. le, la, il, el, bite me.

  15. Was this screed found or was it specifically sent to TTAG? I’m wondering if this isn’t some sort of false flag op. Where they give the “gun nuts” something to joke about and make fun of and/or say racial things that can then be pointed out to the gun control media to dirty the reputation of those who act within their Constitutional Rights and speak about it.

And frankly, I wonder why this is in TTAG. Of what use is it for “our” side in the argument? That we can show that the gun control pukes are bad people who aren’t “woke”. Are we happy or sad that she doesn’t like to work there? I’ve got plenty of anecdotes and so does anyone else about how evil and hypocritical orgs. like Everytown are. They’re Lefties so assume they’re lying about their goals and ways and means and they’re human so watch out.

This was a waste of ink and paper and my time. Let’s not do this again. Unless it’s to the degree that it might cause the group in focus to fail and collapse.

  16. “Tyranny and “abusive relationship” are synonymous. So this is no surprise. Inside every person that wants to take away everyone else’s guns is a tyrant that deeply desires to impose their will in everything on everyone else.

  17. It’s disconcerting to see the number of 2nd Amendment Supportinh Non Gun Owner’s who buy into the “Common Sense” Gun Law Lies Everytown and Mom’s extol. Members of my family that I’ve spent literally hours and days re-educating and deprograming.

My own mother bought onto this BS at first, until I sat down with the State and Federal Criminal Code and explained that most of the laws are already on the books in some version and that those laws have already failed to deliver the results they were intended to address. The fact that all each and every piece of legislation passed to reduce ” Gun Violence” has failed to reduce Gun Violence, and has only Infinged upon the law abiding citizens, not the perpetrators.

“It’s all about the Benjamins.” Much as I hate to use that Somali Skank’ Omar’s words, she’s right. Gifford is raking in a ton of cash with her scamming group. Far more than she would have as a Representative or Senator. Shannon (t)Watts is too.
They’re laughing all the way to the bank.

  18. Ah. Authoritarians, who are misanthropes who see fellow humans as nothing more than food, tools, and fuel, make difficult co-workers and even worse bosses? I am so fucking surprised! I did not see that coming! I think I’m going to faint.

  19. It sounds like the usual hive of leftist racism, victimhood virtue signaling and backbiting. The whites and the coloreds are likely equally insufferable, even if in different ways.

  20. “department managers talking about characteristics of white supremacy when they have no intention of changing the white supremacist culture and policies that harm and push out BIPOC staff.”

    So just another socialist-democrat organization?

  21. just love how every POC it seems makes it about THEM and that only ‘whites’ are fighting or hindering THEIR upward mobility in the workforce…IMO–POC’s stand on their VERY own ‘junk’ by talking shit with that ‘race chip/card’ all the time!

  22. One of the biggest draws to brazilian mail order brides is their seductive dances. They may not have the prestigious education or the brilliant career achievements that many of their foreign counterparts have, but these women know how to run a household. They will never complain about the lack of money, and will motivate their husbands to achieve more.
